  1. My wife of about 4 years is NOT a member of the Church. A terrific person in her own right. but was VERY turned off by out previous ward and the way that they treated her (Simply because she was spanish speaking non-member) She thinks a couple of things 1. The temples are way too luxurious. (I bring up the Catholic Cathedrals where she's from, to no avail) And she believes that, as a people, we are arrogant. And, finally, that we "added" books to the bible (Not to mention the pseudepigrapha in the Douray Version of the Bible Tobit , Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom of Solomon,) Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) She will NOT read the Book of Mormon and thinks that organized religion is crap. As we have talked I believe that it is things in her past that make her feel that way.. that she has no value to God and that she can never go "home." My thoughts are that I need to keep on being a good example and exercise as much patience as I can. Your help would be appreciated.. I post this with some trepidation because of some of the comments Ive seen to other of my posts.. None the less, I really COULD use some advice.
  2. I don't think I am either a lurker.. or an anti or anything else that would place me contrary to the Gospel. I TRULY cannot believe that there has been ALL this brouhaha over an abbreviated name. I totally agree with defending the Church and the Gospel. That is how it should be.. However, all of us who are members of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have a responsibility (Check out your baptismal convenants) to HELP one another. The church and its members gets enough Criticism.. I had always supposed that the idea behind this forum was to add to the gnosis of those who ask questions. If the question is a stupid one.. It still deserves a kind answer.. or, perhaps a re-direction. I come to this forum to ask questions that I DONT have the answers to.. To some of you Gospel Scholars, they might seem simple or stupid or mis-spoken. Perhaps some of you have a lifetime of studying the Book of Mormon.. Perhaps you were blessed with being better taught in your youth than I was.. perhaps you've had angels minister to you.. But, if all of those things are true, or any of them are, it is incumbent on you to help me get home to my Heavenly Father.. To know the Book of Mormon and its doctrines.. My reading of the book makes it pretty plain that good comes from God.. Anything else comes from the other realm.. and I believe that the Lord does NOT promote contention (3 nephi 11:29)
  3. Here is something related that ive wondered about. What is the diff between Sin and iniquity?
  4. My wish is far simpler. A mute button I can use on anything I want. Loud music? ---MUTE!! Filthy mouth! MUTE!! Negative attitudes? MUTE! I think that would make me pretty doggone happy. Yappy dog next door? MUTE!! Snoring wife? MUTE! Droning high councilman? Mute! The possibilities are endless.
  5. I have three posts because I just started. I abbreviated Samuel the Lamanites name (and title) because I was in a hurry. I was trying to find an answer to my question and get a consesus of opinions from those of you who have more experience.
  6. As I was reading 3rd Nephi, It appears to me that the death of Christ happened in the first month (nissan) on the 4th day of the 34th year. Then, in Chapter 10, VV 18-19 He says: 18 And it came to pass that in the ending of the thirty and fourth year, behold, I will show unto you that the people of Nephi who were spared, and also those who had been called a Lamanites, who had been spared, did have great favors shown unto them, and great blessings poured out upon their heads, insomuch that soon after the ascension of Christ into heaven he did truly manifest himself unto them— 19aShowing his body unto them, and ministering unto them; and an account of his ministry shall be given hereafter. Therefore for this time I make an end of my sayings. To me, this indicates that Christ finished his work in the Old World. and THEN appeared to the Nephites.. Somewhere between Tevet (Dec/Jan) and Adar (Feb/march) One could then also surmise that it was at least a year after his death that he appeared to the "lost" 10 tribes.
  7. In 3rd Nephi, Nephi, while Sam. the lamanite preaches, is baptizing. Soon after Christs advent, he is authorized to baptize again. Same thing occurred in Act 19 (1-6) I think that it was because the baptism of John pertained to the Old Covenant and the later baptism was to A:Give the gift of the holy ghost. (Gift didnt come till after Christs death) and to give admission to the New covenant. any thoughts?
  8. Good Morning! Just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Mark and I am, obviously, new to this forum. I have a great testimony of the Gospel. I especially love the Book of Mormon. I work for Volcano Corp in N. Springville. (Volcano Grills) I love to scuba, outdoor cooking and travel. Hope you have a terrific day!:) Mark
