  1. Kevan and Terri Clawson I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah; served a full-time mission to Pennsylvania, where I first met my wife, Terri. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple and have five children (and many grandchildren!). I have served as a full-time missionary, a local Seventy, a Ward Mission Leader, and as a counselor in a Stake Mission Presidency—in all, over 15 years serving as a missionary! Over the years I have taught classes in Gospel Doctrine, Gospel Essentials, Temple Prep, Missionary Prep, Stake Institute, Teachers Quorum, Seventies Quorum, High Priest Group, and many other classes—in all, over 10 years as a teacher! Terri has also served faithfully in many callings in the Church (Stake Missionary, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Primary Chorister, Primary Pianist, Choir leader, transcriptionist for the Church Historical Department, Ward Librarian, Genealogy Teacher, and in many other ward and stake positions). Since my wife Terri shared my passion for serving and teaching others. we have been blessed to serve together on a part-time mission working at the Utah State Prison, teaching inmates ESL, English, and job skills; as well as serving with a group from LDS Charities aboard the USNS Mercy (a hospital ship that went on a five month humanitarian mission to Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Timor Leste), as part of Pacific Partnership 2010. I worked with the Seabees in remodeling 32 medical clinics and schools; while Terri worked in-country as a medical provider giving medical care to the poor. For most of my life I have been in construction and roofing, having worked for large commercial roofing companies in Utah, Connecticut, and Ohio. As strange as it may seem from my background, I am now a writer. I was prompted to begin writing books by Elder Hugh Pinnock, who served as my mission president in Pennsylvania. In 2000, I was laid-up with back surgery (all those years of roofing!) and decided that I should finally do what Elder Pinnock had been prompting me to do—write a book! The first to books were developed out of my deep faith in Jesus Christ: “The Atonement of Jesus Christ” and “The Second Coming of Jesus Christ.” After reading an entry from my great-grandfather's journal about a special blessing he received at the hands of the Prophet, Terri and I began to study the doctrine of ‘election.’ Because of Terri and my mutual interest and inspiration concerning the subject, we co-wrote the book “Obtaining Your Calling and Election.” Unfortunately, Elder Pinnock died before any of my books were published. My fourth book, "Becoming a Great Missionary," was written as a tribute to Elder Pinnock. It contains the teachings and lessons I learned from Elder Pinnock over the years. Sister Anne Pinnock helped to edit the book, and wrote the introduction. Terri was born in Steubenville, Ohio. She was raised in Columbus, Ohio, and then her family moved to Bloomington, Indiana, and eventually to Warrington, Pennsylvania, where we first met. Terri attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Microbiology. It was at BYU that Terri and I met again, and courted. After raising their five children, Terri decided to go back to school to gain a Masters Degree as a Physician Assistant, with the goal of serving in underprivileged areas of the world. Terri was well prepared for this step: she had worked in medicine all of her life: she worked as a candy-striper when she was young, as an ambulance worker in inner-city Hartford, as a Medical Assistant for several doctors, worked for years as a Medical Transcriptionist, and as a teacher at Utah Technical College. Because of her wide experience, she was well prepared to return to college and become a PA. So far she has fulfilled that dream by running the medical clinic on the tiny island of Tinian for two years, by serving aboard the Mercy, and now by working at the small medical clinic in Martin, South Dakota-- right in-between two of the largest Indian reservations in the country. Perhaps Terri's most unusual and impressive accomplishments were associated with home construction. Terri began by finishing a basement, then built a garage, then an addition to a home, and finally ended up building her own 3,000 square foot home in South Jordan, Utah. It's true! Terri built her home with her own two hands: from framing the home to installing the plumbing, the copper heating system, the electrical systems, etc. She is also a gourmet cook, has wonderful needlework, and is a computer wiz (she worked as a consultant to doctors and medical offices, working with them in selecting and installing computer programs for medical use; and helping to organize medical offices to make them more efficient). Time would not allow a list of all the talents Terri has developed over the years (she also sings beautifully and plays the piano), so let the foregoing simply wet your imagination! Terri and I are currently living in Martin, South Dakota. While Terri works in the small clinic there, I continue to write.
