  1. Been there :) Many times. I love it. It'll always be on my list when I visit my grandparents.
  2. Just because I'm not interested in antique books doesn't mean I don't like history. I love history. I've been to carthage jail. Your right, its amazing.
  3. Whats on your list? Have you taken the trip before?
  4. It's not working. Both upload and webcam. Dang it. I wanted to know what dog i'd be!
  5. I went to SLC and talked to a lot of people and figured it out :) thanks. The book isn't avalible there, but I'm trying to ask another organization for it.
  6. I find making Mormon frinds really hard..even though I'm at BYU-Idaho! I get really intimidated my members because I always feel like everyones so good compared to me. Find non members that are religious? maybe that'll help. I try to find members that think and care about the church to the same level I do.
  7. Because I have common sense? Thanks
  8. I get that yes. I don't see an original copy of the BOM being a piece of art. Or any original book really. Books are to be read and appreciated. Often time antique and rare books are kept on shelves and people read the newest, more recent, mass produced copy. The words are what matters and the content. Not the ink blotches, bent pages, hand stitching or hand made leather.
  9. They sell 'mock orginal print Book of Mormons" basically where the headings ect. and chapters aren't updated. I have one. The church book stores in Palmyra sells them. They aren't that cool...I don't get excited over them let alone the idea of the originals. It all is too sentimental and silly to me. Touched by early members of the church? And maybe our ancestors? I don't find that very exciting. Walking in the sacred grove where Jesus Christ and God visited Joseph Smith? That's cool
  10. I don't see the value in antique books. The words are the same (Mostly besdies a few additions/word changes) and even then the content is the same. I'd sell the book and put the money in a interest bearing account.
  11. This is so true. My roommates and I talk very openly about sex. More so then I think we should actually. I've one roommate who has said a few times "I'm really horny. It's a good thing i'm at BYU-Idaho!" Which annoys me a lot. Because I don't want to know how shes feeling. It's awkward. One of my roommates has trouble using tampons because she thinks shes 'too small' or something like that and has talked to me about how shes worried on her wedding night she'll call her mom crying. I have another friend who is here and is pregnant out of marriage. She's due mid April and is giving the baby up for adoption. When sex comes up she's quite mature about it and very counseling and helpful. I talk about sex more at BYU-Idaho then I EVER did living at home with non member friends. Whose values are very obviously lower then most LDS would like. Sex in my family is very, very open. I feel comfortable asking my parents anything and everything. And, I often did. We'd discuss sex at the dinner table. It wasn't a "Pull kid aside. Half hour talk. Never again." thing. My 12 year old sister probably's heard much more then most her age. It's all in appropriate context (well. my mom/dad will tell a 'thats what she said' joke every once in a while.) I love my parents for this however it wasn't really all them. As a pre-teen I never talked to them much. I never got the talk ect. But, when I started asking questions and my parents realized I was really open about sex they started to be more open as well. The only time my parents and I would have very serious, sit down conversions about sex was when they were concerned about my actions and wanted me on birth control. Which, was appropriate to have a serious, sit down convo about. Otherwise it was a "Hey mom. Whats an orgasm?" "thats ect." A close family friend who is also LDS would spend lots of time at my house. And, the first time she witnessed this openess she later talked to me about it and was amazed. "My parents don't even talk to me about dating." Ect. So yeah. I'm thankful for my parents. In HS my friends would sometimes ask me things, and I'd go ask my parents and then report to them. My parents were amused by it all but I'm sure my friends parents were thankful that at least they weren't googling.
  12. Dravin, that got me really confused haha. I had to enroll the list of my roommate for a translation haha. But thank you for your response!
  13. I'm fine with the idea of allowance because its the same underlying idea as a budget. It's just a number limit (unless of course it goes overboard to the point of controlling.) But, I don't think I'll ever need an 'allowance." And, if in my future marriage we have a budget I'll be involved in making it. I'm not stupid with money and I don't randomly spend. My parents always call and are like "Liz, do you need money?" really concerned like. It always suprises them that I've got a good amount in my bank account. My moms always suprised haha. I like the idea of being able to buy a plane ticket anywhere in the world and fly away at a moments notice if needed (Aliens...)....so I try to keep enough in my account for that. Which seems silly. But, yeah.. And, at this point i can't see myself marrying someone who isn't thrifty :) But, that could change.
  14. So, I'm not sure how many college students are on here. Or even people living away from home who have way younger siblings at home. My sister, Sarah, is 12. Yesterday she went to her first young women broadcast-I always loved those things! My parents told me that she's not going to mutual and doesn't want to go to church ect. Which, to be honest is understandable because she doesn't have any real friends at church. I remember being just like her at 12 until a new family moved into the ward. I've been really struggling with my testimony and while I'm still not quite sure where my beliefs lay I want my sister to enjoy mutual and church. Even if I'm not sure about the church, I want her at mutual. It's good for her leadership, character, social and spiritual devlopment. So, today I skyped called her right before her bedtime and I read her "The Parable of the Princesses" By Jenny Philips (An amazing short story. Any younger sister or daughter would enjoy. I liked it. I read it to the girls I visit teach). To my surprise she listened and when I asked questions she understood instead of zoning me out. I don't skype with my sister often. A few times a semester. I'm very excited to go home and see how she is. I didn't get along with her much when I was living at home. However, my goal for this summer when I'm home is to "Rebuild our relationship." So, what do people do to stay close to younger siblings when your away.
  15. haha. It's still me. yeah, I cut all my hair off. And my old profile picture was from like Sept 2010 anyways :) Thank you.
  16. Very funny. You all should start a comedy club of clean humor.
  17. I grew up with my parents having everything shared. I would like to do the same. I don't see how two people can really be united and in love if they aren't willing to share finances. I was raised thinking "Sharing money=normal thing for married people." It wasn't until mid high school that I realized a lot of couples didn't share money. If I'm going to live with someone eternally then I better feel comfortable sharing my money (and vice versa.) "Sure lets have a temple marriage. Together forever. By the way, lets keep everything separate. I'll cover these expenses, you cover those. The kids we'll split. And, we can have separate savings!" That doesn't seem at all right.
  18. If sports is a bonding family activity I think its fine personally as Pam suggested. I remember one Sunday being at home and my sister wanted to play frisbe and soccer. And, my parents were both home. For a while my mom was working 40 hours a week and going to school full time. Life was really hectic and we never much saw each other. I remember really clearly all of us being outside, playing frisbee and then soccer. And then croquet. And then we went on the trampoline together and my dad told stories :) As a kid I have a lot of memories of fun things with my parents. But, my sister basically has a separate childhood then I did. My parents are both now in school full time so they're always busy studying ect. For my sister, that day was great and I'm sure she still remembers it. Anytime we can get all the family outside playing we always have fun. I can't wait to go home and play soccer with my siblings :) And, if that means playing on a Sunday because my brother works nights and is always asleep during the day. Then, I'm all for it.
  19. My grandparents have laminate and I actually like it better then the hard wood floor at my parents home. I'm not sure if thats because I like my grandparents a lot or what haha. I think laminate is easier to clean. I love swifers. And while you can swifer real hard wood floors its not the same lol. Plus you have to like buff them and shine them and stuff. Have you thought about doing real wood? It's not that hard to install if you buy the peices that you snap together and then nail and shine ect.. I'm not sure how pricey the actual pieces are. However last summer my dad and I redid the floors in my new house. It was really actually kinda fun. I fit them in and did the hammer thing on the machine. Not that hard at all. Whenever someone comes over and compliments the flooring 'nice wood floors!" I'm always like "Thanks. I put those in." haha :) Also, cork flooring? How would that work with high heels...wouldn't your heel like keep denting it.....I'm thinking like..Cork like my cork board...
  20. Is anyone giving anything up for Lent? I'm not catholic obviously but I chose something and I'm seeing how it will affect my life:) Except i kinda didn't get started on it till tonight haha. So um. I've decided to do it till the end of April :) Not quite 40 days. I don't understand Lent very much but i like the concept.
  21. Thank you for all the responses. I really do appreciate each of your comments. It's given me much to consider about my future finances.
