  1. My little sister was born today. When my mom was close to delivering, my grandparents came to stay with us. All morning they were tricking us (I was 5 my older sis was 7) so when they told us she was born we didn't believe. Even when they loaded us up and we got into the car, then again when we got to the hospital. They showeed us her in the nursery, and we still kept waiting for them to say April Fools! Turns out, the joke was still on us.
  2. It seems like your brothers won't be hanging out with Jim. Rather, he will be hanging out with your brothers. The difference? When Jim is the host, his rules and social norms are more prevalent. Whereas if it is you, your brothers etc hosting, then your social norms will have center stage. I would aproach your family with the idea that this young man needs help, and is best helped by being surrounded by good influence. You could use a scripture like this: 10And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. 11And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 12But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick
  3. Pretty sure we got "revenge" on Japan. Little town by the name of Hiroshima, or maybe Nagasaki. To say nothing of the aprox. 90,000 we killed in Tokoyo with fire bombs. Or how about the roughly 500,000 killed in Japan by our fire bombing BEFORE we even dropped any atomic bombs...
  4. So you want us to explain why Heavenly Father would do something, but without using an LDS perspective to do it? Well, let's give it a try. Heavenly Father created man and woman. He realized that we were very deistinct and had very different ideas on how to do everything, so He needed a way for us to come together. Well, Heavenly Father being all knowing realized that many people think babies are cute, and will go out of their way to take care of babies. Therefore, He concluded that having babies would give man and woman a common purpose, thereby helping them stand living with one another.
  5. Vicodin (or hydrocodone) is a semi synthetic opiate derivative of codeine. As for coffee being healthy for you, there are conflicting studies. According to many studies, Coffe increases homeocysteine levels. Homeocysteine has been directly linked to heart disease, as well as increase chance of bone breaking (not due to bone weakening like osteoperosis, but rather having to do with degraded collagen) So while many studies say "Look at these antioxidants. Surely they must be healthy, therefore Coffee is healthy for you" other studies say "Look at these compunds in Coffee, they are linked to these risk factors, therefore Coffee is bad for you" I could go on but I think my point is obvious. But just to be safe, I will go for a concise sumation; Whatever you look for, you will find. If you look for studies showing health bennefits of Coffee, you will find them. If you look for studies showing harmful effects of Coffee, you will find it.
  6. Seems like everyone over here has sleep issues. We recomend bennadryl, they ask (sometimes demand) ambien. Problem is, Ambien is a horrrible product due to the various actions people take while under it's influence, usually with no memory of the incident.
  7. Is the Air Force REALLY the same as the rest of the Armed Forces? What with the "substandard living pay" your folks get when they have to stay on one of our bases:eek: Wow. That is like saying if a person who attended BYU kills someone, it would be BYU's fault. Just because you WORK for an organization doesn't mean the organization is responsible for your behavior. Rather, you should be responsible for your own actions. We do not get psych tests before getting weapons. These days they hand you a weapon day 2 of Basic, and you keep it with you for the next 11 weeks. As for lying to get in, most recruiters will coach a person on what to say and what to not say. It is all a matter of perspective to them. Of course, with the down economy and budget cuts, the standards are getting harder to pass and the pool of applicants is getting larger.
  8. My five year old told people I wasn't at church because I was "killing people". I assume he meant that I am deployed, and assumes I kill bad guys, but I am actually a medic, so I usually try not to kill the people I come in contact with. I have no idea what the response was, but most people in my ward know my situation.
  9. Couple of scriptures that came to mind D&C 122:9 9Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever. D&C 98:14 14Therefore, be not afraid of your enemies, for I have decreed in my heart, saith the Lord, that I will prove you in all things, whether you will abide in my covenant, even unto death, that you may be found worthy D&C3:7 7For, behold, you should not have feared man more than God. Although men set at naught the counsels of God, and despise his words— Not exactly what you asked for, but as close as I can currently think of
  10. And yet we have also had people who received a witness the first time they aproached Heavenly Father on the subject. I guess thats why He instructs us to talk to him, and yet no where in the scriptures does it say that we should "gather enough evidence to logically conclude" that the scriptures are true. Weird, huh?
  11. Ruthiechan, Seeker claims that he has read the BoM. He also claims that he is looking for a religion to subscribe to. Both of these are more than "information gathering", they fall into the prep work required to receive a testimony. What are we told in Moroni 10:3-5? 3Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how amerciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and bponder it in your chearts. 4And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would aask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not btrue; and if ye shall ask with a csincere heart, with dreal intent, having efaith in Christ, he will fmanifest the gtruth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may aknow the btruth of all things. Seeker has read "these things", he seems to have pondered them, so what is next? Ask God the Eternal Father in the name of Christ if these things are not true. With the prerequisite of asking with a sincere heart and real intent. Pretty sure that I hit both of those prerequisites; Yep, I sure did. So how is what I told Seeking to do even close to a Sunday School teacher praying for help without preparing a lesson? And as for internet message boards not being the place to gain a testimony, I stand by what I said. A testimony is gained not from what is read online, but from heartfelt prayer and the following witness of the spirit. President Eyring tends to agree with me; "We are taught in those inspired passages to begin our quest for testimony with a “particle of faith” and with desire for it to grow (see Alma 32:27). Tonight you have felt faith and that desire as you listened to stirring talks of the Savior’s kindness, His honesty, and of the purity His commandments and the Atonement made possible for us. So, a seed of faith is already planted in your heart. You may even have felt some of the expansion of your heart promised in Alma. I did. But, like a growing plant, it must be nurtured or it will wither. Frequent and heartfelt prayers of faith are crucial and needed nutrients. Obedience to the truth you have received will keep the testimony alive and strengthen it. Obedience to the commandments is part of the nourishment you must provide for your testimony. You remember the promise of the Savior: “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself” (John 7:17)." (How do I gain a testimony, Henry B. Eyring) Link
  12. My mistake. I assumed you meant that there would be no offically recognized relationship within the church.
  13. What about the Acer Iconia? Here Granted it is quite a bit more, but it offers a lot more as well. If I could afford it, i would buy one.
