I think you should bring your concerns to your bishop, he can counsel you for your situation. There is no directive from the church as to how or when to pay tithing. Paying as you go or at the end of the year really does not matter as long as you pay it. Some people choose to pay on their gross income, some people pay on their net income, some people figure our their net worth increase from the year before and pay on that. As long as you know in your heart that the way you have chosen to do it is right for you, and you feel you can look God in the eye and say you paid an honest tithe, then you are okay. Many people, including farmers and self-employed people find it easier to figure their tithe at the end of the year rather than on a monthly or weekly basis. Putting money aside monthly in a savings account to pay at the end of the year is completely fine as far as I know.
The only directive I am aware of is that the instructions say you need to pay a tithe on your increase. How you figure it is up to you, and if you aren't sure how to figure it, a conversation with your bishop about your situation will no doubt help.

That has been making the rounds for a couple weeks. The story I heard from an employee of Bonneville Communications is that she had been taking some medications that morning and apparently she went a little loopy there without even realizing it. She momentarily lost control of what she was doing and reverted into doing something else. She probably even had her eyes closed at the time.
A similar thing happened to me once. I had been pulling another 18-hour work day and was talking to my wife on the cell phone when a customer came up to me. I didn't hang up the phone, just set it down to deal with the customer. When our transaction was over, I forgot who I was conversing with and said "I love you". He gave me this funny look and said "What?" and I covered my tracks by quickly saying thanks for coming in. Then when I picked the phone back up, my wife had heard it all and grilled me about who else I was telling I loved besides her. So I had a little explaining to do.

If she has repented, it's no longer her problem. If this still bothers you, then perhaps the problem is that you haven't forgiven her. If God has forgiven her, why can't you?

john doe got a reaction from seashmore in tithe on an insurance program:
I don't know about anyone else, but when I go to work I'm not giving away my time, I'm selling it. I'm trading my time, expertise, and experience to my employer for money. When I receive a check for those things, that is an increase. When my check from my employer becomes so small that it isn't worth coming to work, then I have the option of staying home for nothing, and no increase.
And if you ever feel like giving away your time and work, I have a lawn that needs mowed. I'll give you $2 dollars if it makes you feel whole, but since you are giving your time and labor, I'm sure you'll understand if I don't pay every time. Because paying you would feel to me like I'm giving you an increase, and we wouldn't want that.

I am completely baffled by peoples' inability to understand this. Some months back, my pro-Bernie niece (I should call her Bernice -- but I digress) was lecturing me about the evils of corporations. After reminding her that modern life and technology would not even be possible without corporations, I brought up this central fact, that corporations do not directly pay taxes. She simply disbelieved me. So I said, "When a corporation is forced to pay taxes on its product, do you think it takes the taxes out of the paychecks of senior management? Of course not. They raise the price of their product or service."
Her response: "They should make laws to make that illegal!" Which is pretty much exactly the response I would expect from a Bernie supporter, sad to say.
Honestly, people just don't think. They react according to their conditioning. I suppose it has ever been so, but it's discouraging when you finally get old enough to see it all around you. Maybe that's why we die by the time we're 100; it's just too much of a pain to see how foolish everyone is, self included.

A new fuel cell is being developed by Nissan.  It might have potential.  It uses 55 percent ethanol and 45 water as fuel.  Read the below:

When the world at large thinks of fuel-cell vehicles—to the extent it does, at least today—they are associated with hydrogen as the fuel to power them.
But a fuel cell, more broadly speaking, is any device that produces electricity from a variety of input fuels or energy carriers.
This morning, at a briefing in Japan, Nissan said it planned to develop vehicles using fuel cells powered by ethanol rather than hydrogen.

I have no personal opinion of Brother Meldrum. The fact that he believes in the literal truth of the Book of Mormon tends to make me think he is a faithful Saint. That he might try to make money selling instructionals about his interpretation of that belief is a bit concerning, but as long as he is not engaged in overt priestcraft, I'm happy to leave that between him, the Lord, and perhaps his bishop.

But when he attacks those who hold to a central American model rather than simply give his reasons why he supports a mid-North American model, I think he oversteps his bounds.

During the month of February a team of archaeologists, scholars and divers, headed by Dr. F. Richard Hauck, will be at Nephi’s Bountiful on a dig to find answers to some critical questions about conditions there in 600 BC.

    Douglas Scott Barney II
    June 3, 1971 – January 17, 2016

Officer Douglas Barney, 44, was killed in the line of duty on Sunday, January 17, 2016, while trying to question a man who seemingly had done nothing more than leave the scene of a traffic accident. An 18 year veteran police officer, Doug loved law enforcement and interacting with the community. Doug was perfectly suited to law enforcement..., never able to sit perfectly still, always eager for something exciting, and relating to other people in a down-to-earth, sincere way.

Doug was born June 3, 1971 on a military base in Taiwan to Douglas Scott and Darlene Heinz Barney.
Doug was raised in Anaheim, California, and worked at Disneyland as one of his first jobs. He attended Clara Barton Elementary School and Loara High School. He played water polo and was on the high school swim team. Just before his senior year, his family moved to Orem, Utah where Doug graduated from Orem High School. He loved the move to Utah and being able to ride dirt bikes daily in the hills behind his family home. After graduation Doug worked a series of jobs, mostly in the auto mechanics field like his father. He loved working on cars and raced his cars a couple of times at the old Bonneville Raceway.

Doug and his wife, Erika, grew up near each other in Anaheim and he liked to tell stories of how he had always had a crush on her. When Erika moved to Utah to attend BYU they continued their friendship and he tried his hardest to get her to commit to dating him (she had a habit of inviting her roommates along when he asked her out for pie.) In 1995 he showed up to her apartment unexpectedly and asked her to marry him. He asked again every day for several months until she finally accepted. Doug married Erika Gilroy on February 17, 1996 in his family home in Orem. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple. Doug passed away one month before their 20th wedding anniversary.

After their wedding Doug told Erika that although he loved working on cars, it was a bit too lonely of a type of work for him. He didn’t like being underneath the cars by himself all day long and would tend to move around looking for conversations with other mechanics. He admitted to his wife that he had always wanted to be a police officer and, with her blessing, began applying with different agencies. Doug was hired as a corrections officer with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office in December of 1998 and one year later was hired as a patrol officer. He worked primarily in Kearns and Magna, Taylorsville City, and Holladay City during his career. Doug earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah by taking two classes a semester while working full time to support his family. His degree was in Sociology with a Criminal Justice certificate.

Doug is survived by his wife,Erika, their three children, Matilda 18 (Matti), Meredith 16 (Merri), and Jacob 13 (Jack). He is also survived by his mother, Darlene, and his three siblings and their spouses, Tammy (Jason), Russell (Heather), and Brian (Jennifer). He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Scott Barney. Between Doug’s and Erika’s siblings there are 23 nieces and nephews who love Doug, and each are pretty sure they are his favorite. Doug had a special way of relating to children and loved to hold them, tickle them, and incorrectly guess their age. His church family knew it was his habit to come to church and look around for someone with a new baby to sit near, with the hope that the baby would get fussy and they would let him hold it.

Doug was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family and talking about them when he couldn’t be with them. He loved teaching his kids how to shoot guns, appreciate cars, and the basic approach to a few defensive control techniques. He loved music and listened to every conceivable type of music. For years he kept a cassette tape keyed up in his patrol car to Kenny Rogers’ Long Arm of the Law, which he would sing loudly when a prisoner seemed especially sulky on the way to jail. The end result was usually that they would come into the jail laughing together.

Doug was well known for his boisterous personality. He was larger than life in every way. He was very funny and was often able to diffuse a tense situation with a perfectly timed joke. It is very hard for a criminal to consider violence while laughing. Doug’s law enforcement brothers remember him for his signature greeting of, “hey, brotha!” or “hey, sista!”, and an almost knocking-the-wind-out pat on the back.

Doug struggled with bladder cancer and the side effects of treatments and surgeries for many years. He was frustrated by the time it took him away from work and from his family, but had an amazing ability to stay positive and upbeat and even lighthearted about the challenges. His only desire, always, was to be able to get back to work and to take care of his family. Doug will be forever missed.

The family would like to thank the community, both locally and nationally, for the outpouring of love that has been given this week.

Services will be held at the Maverik Center, 3200 Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City, Utah on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A public viewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center at 2811 S 6400 W on Sunday, January 24 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.

Someone hasn't been paying attention during General Conference. This from Elder Ballard during the April 2015 conference:

"Fortunately the Lord has provided ways for us to reach out to you. For example, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve assigns every missionary to his or her mission. Although this is done without a traditional face-to-face interview, technology and revelation combine to provide an experience that is remarkably intimate and personal. Let me tell you how this happens.
Your photograph comes up on a computer screen, together with key information provided by your bishop and stake president. When your picture appears, we look into your eyes and review your answers to the missionary recommendation questions. For that brief moment, it seems as if you are present and responding to us directly.
As we look at your photograph, we trust that you have cleared in every way the “raised bar” required today to be a faithful, successful missionary. Then, by the power of the Spirit of the Lord and under the direction of President Thomas S. Monson, we assign you to one of the Church’s 406 worldwide missions.
No, it isn’t the same as a personal, face-to-face interview. But it’s close."

A sustained prophet does indeed call and approve every mission call.

I don't get the inference here. If someone's name is submitted to be a bishop and he is not called, does that make him a less valuable worker in the Lord's vineyard? Is whether a person is called a bishop some sort of litmus test for his worthiness?

I think the danger here is the idea that not being called to a certain position in the Church somehow makes you less in the eyes of God or Christ. If your name is rejected for being a bishop and the Stake President is suddenly less cordial to you, doesn't that make it a 'him' problem and not a 'you' problem?

There are generally a few men at any given time who are perfectly worthy to be bishop in any given ward, but just because one is chosen to be called does not mean that the others somehow don't 'measure up'. I think you will find in the Celestial Kingdom many great men who were never called to high callings in the Church. God is not a respecter of persons or their calling. It doesn't matter.

Some people are foreordained to be leaders, some people are foreordained to sustain their leaders and aid them in fulfilling their callings and duties. If a church leader has no followers, how effective of a leader can he really be? Personally, I think that being a Sunday School teacher, or Priesthood/Relief Society  instructor, or Primary teacher, are just as important, and possibly more important, callings as bishop. After all, the bishop may address a ward a couple times a year, but the weekly instructors are the ones who really deliver the Gospel Message to ward members on a regular basis.
