  1. He stated he is a male. And he was a new person responding to dissenting opinions from four other people. I think the math is just fine. I agree with what he said.

    LAPD Budget

Carb, this is the second time (in two times) that I have responded to you trying to be helpful and your response has been annoyed. Do you have a problem with me, or is there something else going on here? I wasn't aware that i was the second person to point this out...I didn't read the whole thread. Vort tagged me and I responded....trying to be helpful. When I did a search to find the youtube video (to be helpful), I saw a headline from Fox News that talked about protesters storming city hall. I specifically mentioned Fox in my post because it seemed more polite to suggest THEY were exaggerating the situation, than to put that on you. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. Again...I meant to help. I don't understand why you would automatically assume otherwise. To quote you, "I thought you had a higher option of me than that."

    LAPD Budget

I also live in a suburb, about 45 minutes drive from Seattle. I seldom go into Seattle. But I did hear about this on the local news last night. I think "storm" is an exaggeration (by Fox News). Because storm, to me implies violence and chaos. But yes, thy are protesting in city hall. Apparently someone who had a key let them in. They are standing about with signs. (sorry the video is posted twice...same video. I don't know how to fix it and I have to run.) (Fixed ~ mirk)

    Faked Protests

Yes, I think the question is who is actually doing the rioting and looting and why? I'm not real clear on that right now. Here's an article I just saw... "‘Damn Shame’: Pittsburgh Police Chief Says White Males Dressed In Anarchist Attire Hijacked George Floyd Protests Downtown"

Here is a news clip of a peaceful protester talking about her frustrations about anachists creating chaos.

Yes, that is what Forbes is reporting now as well: "Mayor says he was incoreect in saying every person arrested in Minneapolis protests was from out of state"

    Mormon Enigma

Its definitely recent. Much appreciated, but recent. I don't have a problem with it, but I know it has been a stumbling block for some so I'm glad the church has addressed it.

So sorry for your loss, Carb.
  12. When I think of anxiety, I think of mental anguish. I think it could go together with faith in the sense of Ether FAITH the Lord can help us overcome our weaknesses (i.e. anxiety). I used that scripture to work with the Lord to build faith and overcome a weakness. It was a wonderful experience. Another way I can see faith and anxiety (mental anguish) go together is by using prayer and scripture study as a form of mindfulness. There is a great book that explains it well called The Power of Stillness: Mindfulness for Latter-day Saints. Mindfulness is great for anxiety.

    No Talk of Miracles

Carb, a couple thoughts that come to my mind...first miracles don't convert...Laman and Lemuel were rebuked by an angel and it hardly phased them. Second, you want to be careful that you don't inadvertently place yourself between an individual and the Lord. By sharing a miraculous experience (without the approval of the Holy Ghost) you may unintentionally come between the person you shared with and the Lord, I mean, in the future, they might have a question and come to you because they deem you "so spiritual" rather than seeking answers for themselves. That said, I believe we do have miracles, I have experienced them, and when the Holy Ghost moves us, they are given to strengthen believers. So there is a time to share, it should just be guided by the Spirit.

    The Slow Return to "Normal"

California makes it pretty difficult from what I hear, but it is still possible.
  16. @Vort IMO there is just a misunderstanding between you and JJ. I don't want to get into a debate, but possibly I could help with the misunderstanding? FWIW, I think the misunderstanding you two hare having stems from this sentence. I read that to mean "there are several different types of people (and possibly more) that belong. Then he listed the groups and said that when the issue about changing the group's name arose, groups 1 and 7 probably were the ones that fought it the hardest, but they don't necessarily represent the group as whole. That's how I read his posts, anyway, and so they made sense to me. Back in the day, I joined a couple groups like this, perhaps MBB, I don't remember. But I left because of very loud antis. I was in JJ's Group 2. I would have supported the name change whole-heartedly, had I not already left these kinds of groups awhile ago...again because there is a very loud group of anti's....whether they are a majority or a vocal minority I really don't know. So the article doesn't really surprise me, but I appreciate JJ's reminder that not everyone in the group is Anti, or not even all of them are against the name change.

    When Women (don't) Speak

Here's how I look at it, if i'm talking to a friend I might use one of these terms to get their attention, but not as a regular part of conversation. I might use, "dude", and talking to a male friend and with a girl I would probably use "girl." or "woman". Examples, Dude, I hate to tell you this but that hat has got to go! Girl! You are not going to believe what happened to me. Hey Woman, slow down, let me finish.. I would only use Babe when talking to my hubby, and he is the only one I would want to hear it from.
  18. When I saw that article this morning, I was rolling my eyes too. Good grief.

    The Seven Seals

Remember the 7th seal includes the Millenium, so this would need to happen near the beginning. Both the videos I shared above mention this earthquake and said it already happened, so I looked it up. Approx. 800 years ago, there was a MASSIVE earthquake. 1,100,000 people died.... Look at this list from Wikipedia, scroll down to July 5, 1201 and or May 20, 1202 (approx. 800 years ago) 1,100,000 fatalities, nothing else on the list even comes close. Pres. Hinckley mentioned the Prophesy of Joel which also talks about the moon turning to blood. He said it has already been fulfilled. He didn't say when or how, simply that it had occured. Here's the link: Most importantly, we need to heed the words of our current prophet. Just last month there was a whole article from him about it:

    The Seven Seals

I partially agree. I believe we are in the 7th seal, but I think we recently ended the half hour of silence. I've come to this conclusion based on some videos I watched on YouTube...and before you say it....that is no different (than if one of you had written it here....with the exception that I will watch long videos, and don't generally read LOOOOOONG posts.) Here in and the videos, it's just Latter-Day Saints discussing the scriptures together and sharing our thoughts. Then it is up to each person to inquire of the Lord if the OPINIONS they heard/read are true. I'm still praying about the information in the's a slow process because I think the Lord expects me to put in some study of my own, but so far so good. So here are a couple of opinions, like ours but in video form....

    When Women (don't) Speak

I think it's a fascinating study. I agreed with their observations. One of my favorite parts was that as Carb mentioned they don't blame men. They said the issue is "cultural norms", and that sometimes women are part of the problem: "Rather than outright misogyny, she says it’s usually cultural norms and gendered messages that subtly—and profoundly—shape the rules of engagement. Individuals who suppress female speech may do so unwittingly. “They may love women,” says Preece. “They may even be a woman!” But as a society we have been “slowly socialized over years to discount” female expertise and perspectives." What they found helpful was that when women are part of a group that group decisions be made by unanimity, rather than majority vote. That seems to help a lot.
