  1. Four people, including myself, doesn't seem so bad. Knowing that I don't HAVE to wear a dress/skirt isn't so bad either.
  2. Thanks for replying.....do you read scriptures daily or study lessons from some mannual. I'm just curious how much time others spend on religion or what they exactly do.
  3. Besides going to church for three hours on Sunday, what do you do the othe other days?
  4. So I have been investigating your faith off and on for a year. I read, watched, listened, studied much. I have also prayed. I have gotten warm feelings. I have experienced "coincidences". I know your faith is true. Yet I don't want to take the next step and be baptized. I don't know if it's the baptism ceremony itself or having to wear dresses to church each week or what. I know these things are minor in the big scheme of things but I have a social phobia and because of certain things I don't like to be the center of attention or wear dresses. Does anyone have any advice to help me?
  5. I don't know if the book is true or not. I don't really care. I'm not going to try to prove that it was fiction (or fact). It's not my place to do so. I know from my education and experience that abuse like that does happen. It's really hard to for me to take especially because it involves kids and it can really mess them up forever. David did a good job telling a story and bringing the issue to light. Hopefully he made some people so uncomfortable that they're moved to do something.
  6. I'm not mormon. I don't mind the ads. I find them interesting.
  7. When I was in my twenties I really liked working with children and babysitting friends' children, but I had absolutely no desire to have kids or a family. I wanted a career and education more. Now I'm in my 30's and I want kids and a family. It's weird how things changed.
  8. Is the Book of Mormon more important than The New/Old Testament to people who are LDS? If it is, then why?
  9. The mormon faith doesn't offend people who are Jewish any more than any Christian religion. As for baptism of the dead.....it might offend some. I was raised to believe that people who are Jewish didn't get baptized in life. In death they don't want to either. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the Holocaust either . It has to do with the importance Judaism plays in their lives. Judaism isn't just a religion Jews practice once a week. It's customs, culture, history and etc. Even Jews who aren't observant know not to mess with Judaism or other religions out of respect.
  10. Worth of national news- no, but there is a lot out there that isn't Would I be upset- Yes. I think it sends the wrong message to kids.
  11. I'm not a member. I was told that it was a reminder of the covenant between the person who wears them and God. That reminder helps people who are LDS live their lives. I realize that it's a little deeper than that, but that explanation is good. I and others have made covenants with God and we all have reminders like crosses we wear, practices we engage in and etc. I've made a personal connection between my life and the life of those who wear the garments. It makes it less mysterious or foreign to me. I understand it. I respect it. I don't need to ask anymore questions or make fun of it or whatever.
  12. I understand why no coffee, alcohol and etc, but I don't understand why no tea. Don't some teas have some health benefits? Wouldn't some teas be better to use than medications when sick?
