  1. We do sealings in the temple in proxy for those who have died to give them the opportunity to accept that covenant.
  2. Well, in Alaska it would work between 0 and 24 hours a day. I think there's a total of three days where the sun never sets. You are golden for those three days. Random thought, wouldn't a sundial not work very well super close to the equator, since the sun isn't very offset to the north or south there, the shadow on the sundial wouldn't really go around, it would just point at 3 or 9 and the shadow would be short or long. Hmmmm.
  3. UTC... stands for coordinated universal time. It can't even get it's own acronym correct. Can I really trust that? Hmmmmmmmm?
  4. When I'm measuring small things I dive straight for the metric side of the ruler. Fractions of an inch can die in a firey hell for all I care. Who knows how many feet are in a mile without looking it up? That's right, no one does. Because it's a stupid odd number.
  5. I went back to finally watch it. You removed it. This thread has been full of disappointments.
  6. I've seen that argument against free will before. I've always thought it a senseless argument. Knowing what the outcome isn't what determines that outcome, your choices are. Knowledge of what an outcome will be and the causes of that outcome are or at least can be different things. As latter-day saints we have the unique perspective that we have always existed. We are co-eternal with God.
  7. I actually penetrate worms with barbed metal hooks, then drown them in water while they are still writhing. I do this specifically to lure marine wildlife to eat the writhing worm. When the marine wildlife bites, I yank on the barbed metal hook embedding it into their mouths.
  8. Pretty sure he was being snarky about the fact that this thread is an exact duplicate of an older thread posted in September, which was already fully answered.
  9. To add to that, we believe any marriage done outside of the temple is dissolved on death. 'Till death do you part are the words right? So you die, you aren't married, you don't qualify for the celestial kingdom. Temple sealings done by priesthood authority are effective for time and eternity. A couple that is sealed in the temple are forever bonded to one another and will still be sealed as husband and wife after death. Children born to a couple that has been sealed are also born into this eternal bond, and are eternally sealed together as a family unit.
  10. What I am excited about is the aligned at hone curriculum. I imagine going to church for two hours, coming home, having lunch, then having a home lesson, spending more time as a family on the Lord's day. That sounds great. If you want more church, get with a like minded group at church and have an after church study! You could use the revamped at home discussion curriculum as your guide.
  11. They try to steal my fries when I'm at the beach anyways. You can have them.
  12. Seeing as we are specifically avoiding removing the name of Christ from our church I'd say "The Church of Jesus Christ" would be the best abbreviation.
  13. I really don't get the long name complaints. The Tabernacle Choir isn't longer than The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and The Church of Jesus Christ isn't *that* hard to say.
  14. When we were visiting family in Utah we went to some kids musuem and my kids thought it was funny that the Utah State bird is the California Seagull. We are from California. Seriously guys, get your own bird.
  15. I would assume typical use would be The Tabernacle Choir. Which is no longer than the old name and fewer syllables. I see "At Temple square" like I see "of Latter-day Saints". It's just kind of hanging out, for use when you need to be more specific.
  16. I saw that it's #TabChoir now also.
  17. My only question is how do you get clean in the shower?
  18. I was legitimately surprised, I did not think the choir would have it's name changed.
  19. I was just curious what your beliefs were, I've never met a Mennonite before. From your post it seemed like you didn't believe in resurrection so I was asking to clarify my own understanding of what you said and to learn about your beliefs, I have no intention of debating them or telling you are wrong about this or that. I also do understand each individual will vary to some degree from the group to which they belong (just look at this thread) If you don't want to share that's fine. I was just curious is all. Since you said my thought was misconstrued I take it that I did not understand you correctly.
  20. Hopefully this isn't too off topic, but that almost sounds like you don't believe in a literal resurrection, is that your belief? I'm not familiar with Mennonite belief's. Forgive me if I am mistaken about your religion, I'm on mobile and it doesn't display it next to your name like it does on a computer so I am going off of memory.
  21. A California ward? About the only population in the foyer is all of us late comers that didn't make it before sacrament has started to get passed. Or the occasional child wandering the halls with a parent. I may have been a tad bit theatrical with the description, but I do remember it being difficult with our first child, a difficult child, trying to feel a part of the ward when we had to take him out of meetings constantly pre-nursery. I do remember feeling alone in our struggle with our kids, seeing other families with their perfectly still kids and wondering what was wrong with us etc... On top of other stresses. My heart just reaches out to parents struggling with their kids I guess.
