  1. Another big component of paleo is an absence of all grains and sugar. I'm primal, which is like paleo but with dairy and more fat. It's been a great change for me. When I'm eating meat and fat and plants, I have a lot fewer hunger issues than when I made grains part of my diet.
  2. I believe the Book of Genesis is an inspired account of spiritual truths -- as opposed to historical fact -- taught in allegory to an ancient nomadic people (which is why a garden sounds like paradise, for example). It's my understanding that the Jews looked at it that way as well, and that the idea that the bible is a history book is maybe a couple hundred years old at most.
  3. I am really sad about the experiences of some posters on this thread. People shouldn't treat dogs that way, nevermind people. I just have to say that so many women are not like this at all. I don't think I've ever belonged to a faith community like the ones mentioned, and I hung out with other women/girls mostly. This could relate to my own low threshold for drama and self-righteousness. Just not interested. And while I've only been to one LDS Sunday service, I don't remember those women tearing each other down either. (Talking about their own general unworthiness, yes, but not others'.) Then again, maybe I was the one being talked about. That never would have occurred to me if not for this thread. Anyway, it's sad. My LDS friends are some of the nicest folks on the planet.
  4. I think maybe my reaction isn't fair, though. A teen mom would probably have a lot more on her mind besides rolling the dice again. (And both my kids are boys, so the chances of their dating a single dad seem really low.)
  5. Yes, I would. And then I would freak out a little. And then we would be talking about (1) abstinence, (2) protection, and (3) hey did you get a good look at (1)? Because I like that one a lot.
  6. I'll bite. I think everyone can receive authentic inspiration of this sort, if that person is willing to be connected to God. And these types of stories happen to people of all faiths and people of no faith. Sometimes the Universe syncs up rather nicely.
  7. I like this a lot, and I'm glad my LDS friends do not hound me. It would definitely put a kink in our relationship.
  8. Ha, I've made chicken marsala for my family many times, and not even my kids felt any effects of the wine. Must be that Catholic bloodline.
  9. Or it could go another way. I just read your update on another thread and wonder if it could apply. You are concerned about a little girl in your life, yes?
  10. Do you feel like you're being pushed to do something in your life for someone else's benefit? That's all I can come up with.
  11. Thanks for the welcome! HiJolly, great perspective. Searching-for-the-Truth, Even though I'm not a Mormon, I do love to talk to people about their religion. So many different ways people have to worship. I imagine God's gotta love that. Are you a pilot?
  12. I'm not a member, but I have dear people in my life who are. I did do lessons/visits with missionaries when I was in college (so, so long ago), but honestly that was more about my inability to say no than it was about choosing to learn. My spiritual leanings have fluctuated a lot; currently they're a little to the left of the Unitarians, but who knows what tomorrow may bring. Just hoping to hang out a little bit, ask questions, give answers. Your general miscellaneous chitchat.
