  1. Hi Lekook, Also see the post I put below or somewhere on here (Still feeling new to the whole posting thing). You were right on when you quoted Deut. 18: 20-22. You are correct that the final days prophesy can't be verified because it hasn't happened but all other prophesies throughout the Bible have come true. Additionally, if we look at what is happening in the world, we can see that we are headed to the fulfillment of "End days" prophesy.
  2. Overall I refer back to Lekook who refers to Deuteronomy 18:20-22 and the test of a prophet. I believe it is very clear. How many times can someone murder someone before they are considered a murderer? Same with a false prophet-if they are wrong ONCE, they are a false prophet. There is not another interpretation of this. Somewhere I received a post that says Abraham and David made mistakes and compared them to prophets. They may have made human mistakes but they did not ever, ever give a false prophecy.
  3. I am with gracemayabound. I do not believe you can disregard God's word. I read LDS life and found it to go around the fact that there is one God. Having read the Book of Mormon, it also states there is only one God. The website used John 17:21 and 20:17 to say that Jesus was talking to his Father to say there is more than one God. However, has anyone ever talked to themselves out loud? I have (especially in the car). This is what is happening in John. This is how I had the fact that there is only one God explained to me so that I could understand John 17 and 20 and a few other verses. We are created in the likeness of God, right? So if you agree with this (let me know if you want the exact Biblical reference), then here is the rest. We have a body, soul, and spirit but we are not 3 different people-we are one. That is how God is-3 different parts but one. I can also support the fact that there is only one God using the Book of Mormon if anyone wants those references. (other Bible references include Isaiah 44:6-8, 46:5&9).
  4. I have read the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Do you believe that both the Book of Mormon and the Bible contain the fulness of the gospel because I have a question about God changing and what you wrote about God not changing his mind.
  5. I have just finished reading the Book of Mormon and what I took from it was that indeed, we do have to be perfect. I am wondering if anyone knows anyone who has achieved this, who has completely stopped sinning before they died. When Jesus said "Be ye perfect as I am" in John, He was talking to the Pharisees and scribes who thought that they were righteous and better than everyone else. What Jesus meant was that no one could be perfect like Jesus.
  6. What does it mean then to "rid yourself of all ungodliness?"
  7. I read it and it says that Eaternal life comes to those who keep the commandments after baptism. I defer to Ephesians 2:8-9 that says we will be saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves, it is a gift of God and not of works so that no man may boast. As far as perfection, I can't find anywhere the Book of Mormon or Bible says anything about relative perfection. It says to rid yourself of all ungodliness. Period. Also, if it is a goal to eventually achieve this perfection, what happens if you die tomorrow?
  8. Great idea! thanks for your time :)
  9. Yes! I love that Moroni 10:35 encourages us to study and pray. I also like where it talks about there being only one God. (Alma and 2 Nephi). I love that LDS people are generally sooo nice.
  10. Then how do you know when you have repented and what do you do to repent?
  11. I believe He won't create or duplicate Himself. He will not make an equal. Again, the only thing God can't do is sin.
  12. No, but she asked me to read it just to read it without any other motives. I take anything spiritual very serious and I will question it as I read it.
  13. I appreciate this lively discussion. You all have been so nice. I am going to a running group and need to get ready. Maybe we will chat again!
