  1. Might ask her tomorrow, if I get the chance. I still go to Starbucks for hot chocolate because I have always loved Starbucks hot chocolate. Even though they sell coffee and tea that I don't drink. Am safe if there is no official pronouncement!
  2. There has been an issue brought up at Church about the way the choir were dressed for the Christmas Eve Service. I don't really remember what was worn but it was nothing out of the ordinary to cause a stir. I was talking to another Ward member about the young women in particular, since I had been reading a book about what is and is not acceptable dress in Church. In that book it said that flip-flops shouldn't be worn, nor backless shoes or sandals, aswell as the usual short skirts, etc. This Ward Member said that when she was on the YW Presidency the girls had more issues than their clothing and she would rather they come to Church wearing inappropriate clothing than not come to Church at all. The girls concerned have all been BIC so brought up in LDS households. What came next stunned me. One of her family members had held a family party in a local restaurant/bar that serves families all day long. This Member had refused to go because they serve alcohol and kept her LDS husband and children away too. Yet this same Member has family that own a cafe that serves tea and coffee that she frequents regularly. I can't understand why she makes a distinction between a restaurant serving alcohol, tea and coffee and a cafe serving tea and coffee, that one is alright and the other isn't, when they are all in the WoW anyway. I appreciate that it would not be appropriate to go to a bar, even to drink soft drinks. Don't understand the restaurant issue, though. If a restaurant is considered out of bounds then what about a hotel? That seems silly to me. Am confused!
  3. Hi Converting to LDS was the best thing that I have ever done - just wish I had done it years ago
  4. Came across them about a year ago and they are superb!! I originally found them because I was looking for the Joseph Smith Papers series Yes you can watch them on the computer
  5. We have three couples in our Ward where the woman met the man whilst he was a missionary in our Ward!!
  6. Well, after those three weeks of hectic activity I will be ready for a rest!! Am really looking forward to it. The main problem at the moment is the airfare. They are going up and down by $300 on a daily basis. Just have to catch it when it is down. I WILL be going regardless of the extra cost. I am going and that's that.
  7. Thank you very much for all this information! Am going to try to do as much as possible in SLC and surrounds. I already have my garments. My chaperone for baptisms, whom will be my escort for my Endowments got them for me at the end of last year. My Endowments will be at the Preston Temple. Will hire my Temple dress for my Endowments here. The Distribution centre doesn't carry the whole stock from the lds store so I fancied buying one in SLC because they will have more choice and I will be able to try them on. As for the trip. Am spending a week at SLC. Then flying to Detroit for work. Then driving to Niagara Falls, going by Kirtland, Palmyra, Hill Cumorah and the Sacred Grove. Have ordered the LDS travel book from Sharon, VT to Kirtland from Deseret book so waiting for that to arrive. I can't wait. 11 weeks tomorrow until I fly to SLC!!
  8. The issue is two ladies from RS Presidency. The issue is that they repeatedly - on a daily basis, to their own admission - have to repent for things that they have said that day. The issue is that they don't think before they speak. I don't need to 'engage brain before speaking' because I have always done that and nobody has ever had to say that to me or about me.
  9. Am booked to go to SLC for the Spring Conference and I can't wait. :) I am taking my Endowments in 10 days time. I am guessing that SLC Temple has a distribution centre? I was thinking of buying my Temple dress there. I am also guessing that the SLC Temple has a rental facility for the clothing? Am staying for a full week so that I get to do the historical stuff too. Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsal on the Thursday evening Deseret Book on the Saturday evening whilst Priesthood session is ongoing. Anything else I need to know?
  10. In my experience, with these two ladies, they say something totally out of order to me. I let it go and forgive them, then they do it all over again! I was brought up - not lds - to not say things that I wouldn't want said to me, to treat others the way I would want to be treated and that is what I have always done.
  11. A number of times over the last few months the Teacher in RS, usually the RS President has made a comment about having to repent every night when she says her prayers because of words she has spoken through the day. Someone else, an RS Teacher always agrees with her saying the same thing happens to her. I was at the receiving end of one of her unkind sentences on Sunday, as I have been before. Just giving a reminder about a rota and that it was her family's turn and all I got was a sharp retort. Perhaps, if they engaged their brain before putting their mouths into operation they might find that they don't need to repent on a nightly basis for the unkind words they have spoken during the day. Both have been converts for 40+ years, surely they should have learned by now?
  12. How do you know she is 'scarred'??? You said that 'she has had sexual transgressions she has committed and won't even talk about how much she is scarred' I am a convert to the LDS Church. I had sexual relations prior to being baptised, none of which left me scarred in any way. I don't really understand your post, to be truthful.
  13. We haven't got our Manuals for this year yet. In fact, I have never had a RS Manual, I never knew we were supposed to have them so never got one!
  14. Speedo make swimsuits with shorts legs in them. I can't see the point of wearing a tankini since they ride up when wet. For modesty it is better to wear a one-piece that has shorts for the bottom half.
  15. Well done! I take my Endowments on 21st January.
  16. I have both of those and they are wonderful books Did a search on lds.org and the answer is yes they are manuals to be used for both RS and YW We haven't used them in our Ward either. Here is the link - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Search
  17. Before I was am investigator I thought that the LDS Church used the BoM and nothing else in the way of Scriptures! When I first started to investigate the LDS Church the most astonishing thing to me was they didn't! I did mention it to the Bishop whilst the missionaries were present, for them to take that point on board when recruiting members, since it is a point that could well have put folks off. On discussing the Church with non-Mormon friends I discovered that they thought the same thing too. That's maybe why folks think we are more than a little odd?
  18. I increased the pdf to 100% where it is fine to read! I am missing a few names and it is plain to see with this. Although I have got my lines back to before 1700. Due back to doing family history next week anyway. Then, when the chart is completed back the 9 generations I will get it printed up at a local printers on some glossy paper ready to frame. So pleased with the results, though.
  19. Have just used this on mine and it is superb. Now all I need to do is to find a printer who can print it out for me in a size that is readable.
  20. Oooh that sounds fab Will give it a go Thanks for posting
  21. Once back at Church previously inactive members are given lessons in Gospel Principles at the time everyone else has Sunday School. So you won't miss out on anything. It's great news that you are coming back to Church!!
  22. However, it is VITAL for all Mormon couples to be Sealed in the Temple. They have the opportunity and they must take that opportunity in order to receive Celestial glory. That is, of course, if they stay worthy.
  23. The Tithing is 10%, yes. It has sometimes been difficult for me to pay tithing but I have always made it my first priority always. The blessings I have received from paying tithing compensate tenfold.
