  1. I had mentioned this problem to our Bishop a few months ago. All I was told was that "we have a perfect Church with imperfect people in it" and to just "let it go" It is hard to let it go when the object of the criticism is a friend.
  2. I think we all have that type of person in every Ward, no matter where in the World it happens to be. We have a RS Pres (a convert of 40 years) whom is outspoken that way and has said some really cutting things about Sisters. Totally uncalled for. I tend to just keep away from her and her venom. To be honest they are to be pitied. That they have spent time on the Gospel and in prayer and yet can still come out with such hurtful garbage.
  3. Am so pleased to hear it. When I was just investigating the Church I was told, by LDS friends, to watch the Conference on the net. Watching Pres Monson speak was wonderful for me and cemented my decision to be baptised.
  4. I wish I could help you - that exact same situation happened to me. Can't help on the talk, though
  5. Read the whole tone of the post and not just one sentence. It is a common assumption amongst a lot of men. You only have to watch certain tv shows and the subject comes up time and time again.
  6. I laughed out loud when I read this post. How dare you! Men in a relationship gain weight, wear sweats, don't bother to wash or to shave, wear old clothes with no regard for their wife. Why should it only be the woman's responsibility to take care of themselves? Why do women have to wear 'cute' dresses. I wear what I want to wear, clothes that I like, that are modest and flattering. I don't want to wear clothes that scream 'hey, come look at me'. Women gain weight with child-bearing and sometimes they find it very hard to lose that weight - particularly when they have an unsupportive husband nagging them about gaining weight in the first place. I, for one, cannot wear heels any more and haven't been able to for 10 years or so due to a medical problem. I cannot and will not conform to a MAN's perception of 'sexy'
  7. Whatever happens in 2012, one thing is certain - there needs to be massive change with everything, from the way countries conduct business and their financial affairs, to the way people live and work. Our Governments are working us into the ground, the retirement age getting higher and higher. The cost of living is spiralling ever higher, with each passing week. We need huge change, both of spirituality and conduct. I really can't wait for the prophesied changes to occur, we have to be left better off than where we are right now.
  8. I wouldn't be too sure about the Euro going and the European countries reverting to their original currencies. Every single country in Europe that chose to go Euro realised within months of doing so that it was a huge mistake for them to have made. Their cost of living rocketed in every case. Thank goodness we don't have the Euro in the UK.
  9. About 80 of them! Was amazed at that number
  10. My iPad A leather bag Lots of books I bought myself arrived from Deseret on Christmas Eve A huge basket of fruit from a very dear friend, which was a welcome change from chocolate. A meal out from another friend Two tickets for the theatre Plus lots of other stuff too!
  11. It was watching the General Conference when Pres. Monson spoke that made the decision for me to be baptised into the LDS Church in the first place. I have had many experiences of 'intervention' if you want to call it that and I have heard of other stories where inspiration has played a part. I would totally expect that this would happen to Pres. Monson himself, and many many others too. I too wish there had been an option of believing the whole story completely.
  12. A woman whose husband has died can be remarried in the Temple and Sealed in exactly the same way as her first marriage. See lds.org
  13. As an aside we have an issue with an 83 year old lady in my Ward re Sealings. Her parents were not married, in fact her Father was killed before he even knew that there was going to be a baby born. Her Mother married someone when the baby was under a year old. Now she has the problem that she cannot be sealed to her biological Father because her parents were not married, yet she has been sealed to her Step-Father because they were married. When you think about the way the World has gone over the last 20/30 years with such a low rate of marriage, etc and several children within a family being born to several different Fathers, it is going to pose problems if and when those innocent children choose to become LDS since they cannot be sealed to their parents, or to siblings. It will be interesting.

  15. Well, exactly. We had so many discussions at Church about the Second Coming and the signs, etc, I started investigating all of this when I was trying to find out how they would get an LDS Temple built in Jerusalem. Then I found out it is already there. They do have Services in the BYU Centre - a friend from our Ward goes on the LDS History Cruises regularly so she has been there a couple of years ago. I have no doubts at all that the BYU Centre is the Temple in the Old Jerusalem. Then I found about about the conversion of the LDS Visitor's Centre. Then I am starting to think that the Second Coming could be very close - now that is an exciting thought.
  16. No, I did not add it to the list as a rumour!! I did some research on this just a few weeks ago. The Kansas City Temple IS in Jackson County, Missouri. Since we managed to lose the original site my US LDS friends all seem to think that the Kansas City Temple is THE Temple. However, not altogether certain about that. However, we have people in our Stake whom have worked closely on the LDS Visitor's Centre in Independence, Missouri and it can be converted without much problem which is on the original land planned by Joseph Smith. Same goes for the BYU Centre in Jerusalem too, apparently. It can be converted within a couple of weeks, when necessary.
  17. Whilst it is not absolutely necessary for you to have the Temple Prep Class it is recommended that you take it. I have had mine and can highly recommend that you do them. It is only 7 weeks and is well worth it. The Bishop will also have meetings with you, prior to your having your Temple Recommend Interview, which is also to prepare you for the first Endowment session. Part-way through your Temple Prep classes they will arrange for the meetings with the Bishop and then to have your Recommend Interview. Then your Stake President's interview. Then the Bishop makes the appointment for you to take your Endowments, for which you need a chaperone. Hope all goes well
  18. Turn the situation around and imagine that is you whom has the sexual past. What would you think then?
  19. The Temple is already built in Jackson County, Missouri ..................
  20. It doesn't bother me in the slightest From the UK to the US we have mandatory fingerprinting and eye-scans and have had for about 10 years now. Have not had anything done in the UK, even for our passport. My take on fingerprints, eye-scanning, etc for security purposed has no impact on folks doing nothing wrong. If it helps stop crime then I am all for it. As for shopping details - I get rewards from the supermarket for allowing them to do this so that doesn't bother me either. Our NI number (US Security Number) is used throughout the UK, we are an NI number not a name any more. I will not be surprised if they start mandatory chipping of humans, the same way we do with dogs and cats.
  21. I love my iPod Touch, I had an iPod before that and loved that too. I have a Droid as a cellphone and that is just great. I am sure that the iPad will be great too - Apple make some fab stuff, that's for sure!
