  1. A few weeks ago our four year old was looking at the new gospel art book during the sacrament. He came to a picture of Moses and the burning bush and asked "is that Jesus or are those fireflies?"
  2. Yes, you will most likely stand out but that may not be a bad thing. It may actually make it easier for members to approach you. Recognizing you as someone they haven't seen may make it easier for them to ask if you're new, whereas they may hesitate to ask someone who doesn't stand out as much if they're new due to the potential embarrassment of finding out the person has been in the ward for years. As for your past, that all depends on the attitude of the individual single men. I grew up about as traditional Mormon as possible, yet I was engaged for a time to a woman who had a child from a previous relationship. Though we ultimately didn't end up getting married, the fact she had had a sexual relationship earlier played no role in the decision to break the engagement. All of us come to a point in our spiritual progress where we have to step into the unknown in order to go forward. It can be scary but if you trust the Lord he won't let you down. I hope all goes well for you.
  3. Looks like I'm not keeping up in real time:). Glad to hear they finally got a hold of you. Look forward to hearing how things go.
  4. Contacting your local ward or missionaries would get things moving faster. When I served my mission we didn’t have electronic referrals so I’m not sure how that works, but we did receive some referrals from Salt Lake and various other visitors’ centers. Although as missionaries we appreciated getting anything that would potentially lead us to an investigator the majority of the time the referrals were dead ends (i.e. wrong/non-existent addresses, people claiming not to have made a request for contact, etc). This served to lessen our sense of urgency in trying to contact the referral, especially when they all indicated the person was VERY interested. If your elders are busy it may simply be that your referral has been placed in the “to get to when we have time” pile. However, I would think that getting a second referral with the same info would tend to increase the feeling in the missionaries’ minds that the person was genuinely interested. If you do try to contact a local ward the best time to call would be in the evening probably Tues-Thurs. Due to the church’s lay ministry there won’t always be someone to answer the phone during the day. If you call the mission office, however, someone should be available during the day.
  5. I'm a military officer with a BA in German. Never pictured myself in the military growing up, but its been a good career so far. I've made friends I would have never met and seen places I would have never been otherwise. Could never have done it though without modern technology allowing me almost daily contact with my family when I've been away.
