  1. Bob Dylan once said that the answer is blowing in the wind. The answer is this really blows! ---- OR -- While auditioning for "Stupid People Tricks" for "Late Night with Dave Letterman", Billy was disappointed to find out he was beaten by someone who did this with a Swiffer.
  2. After a recent chat experience, I can see where some people feel they have all the right decisions, or their family is more important than the Prophet or the Lord. And before you say I am hasty, I will say I have learned from experience what happens when you think you have the right decisions and still do what you want even after knowing what the Lord's will is. We are taught, as LDS, and I believe we should follow and listen to the teachings, that first and foremost is the Lord, then spouse, then work. Any mixup of these priorities results in a life that lacks direction and a firm footing. We are here to do the Lord's will. True, we have have agency, but when choosing our own interests over the Lord's, we do not succeed. I do not say that we should not do what we want to. I do say that we should carefully pray, ponder, seek blessings when appropriate, and then, after having the Lord's input on this, and knowing we are sons and daughters of the Father, we will hopefully make the correct choice. So when we put His will first, we will receive many more blessings and obtain things not possible through following His will.
  3. "I'll take horse names for one thousand, Alex." And the answer is: In the Christmas song "Jingle Bells" what's the name of the horse that pulls the one horse open sleigh? Who is "Misfortune"?
  4. This is right up there with "what word(s) rhyme with "orange." Try that one on for size. Mop
  5. Now that we have cleared up the Atonement taking place in the Garden, and the accomanying sins and troubles of the world He took upon Himself there, I think it is time to add a solemn yet true precept, found in the D&C Section 19:15-18: 15 Therefore I command you to repent—repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not. 16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; 17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; 18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink— So here we are told that if we don't repent, then we will suffer even as He did. To me, that is enough to make sure I do not need to face that. How about all of you? moptopfan50
  6. Unless I am blind (which I could be), I did not see listed anywhere, let alone as #1, revelation. Is revelation not the rock upon which the church is built? Matthew 16:13-18 13 ¶ When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Seems in the opinion of this writer, that the evidence of Mormonism, and evidence of the true church, should have revelation as # 1. I also offer miracles. See Mormon 9:10-11,15,17-20; and Moroni 7:27,29, 35, 37. Any others omitted, please feel free to add. moptopfan50
  7. So far all of you have ommitted a scripture that will explain this exactly and clearly. D&C Section 130:22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us. This clearly tells us the nature of the Godhead, that they are 3 different personages, but 1 in purpose. Each and every one of us are expressly created in His own image. Therefore, we not only have the Spirit of Christ within us, but we look as He does. The Prophet Lorenzo Snow is quoted as saying, "As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may become. " Our purpose, to which many have a hard time believing, is that we can, through our worthiness and righteous living, become a God in our own right, along with our eternal companion regining as our Queen. In 1820, a young 14 year old went into a grove to pray about what church to join. He received a visit from the Father and the Son, who spoke to him. In Joseph's own words, "I knew that I saw God, and God knew it, and I cannot deny it." Finally, D&C Section 76:22-23 22 And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! 23 For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father— So The Father and The Son both possess glorifed, perfected, and ressurected bodies. moptopfan50
  8. I have pondered for awhile on posting my thoughts on the Atonement. One day last month I was having a very hard day, and as I was driving to my various destinations, this subject came to my mind. Then on the next Sunday, the talks were on...you guessed it, the Atonement. Webster's dictionary defines atonement as: the reconciliation of God and humankind through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. We as Latter Day-Saints know the Atonement took place in the Garden. How many of you have given thought to the prayer He offered to His Father.... "Father, if thou wilt, remove this cup...nevertheless, if thou wilt, I shall drink it up, for not MY will but THINE be done." Let us remember that Christ, as the Only Begotten of the Father, had command of the angels and, at any time, could have commanded them to come save Him, and they would have. But then all the creations would have been for naught. Our pre-mortal council to which we "shouted with joy" when the Lord's plan was adopted would have been null and void. This could not be, for God's word is the same yesterday, today, and forever. "For this purpose came I into the world" Christ said when referencing his crucifixion. 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 tells us: 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Man was dead in his sins because of the fall of Adam. We needed a way to have those sins removed so we could return to our Father in Haeaven. This is where the Atonement comes into play. He died for us and his blood removes our sins from us -- provided we repent, not just "repent", but truly and sincerely repent. The kind of repentance that brings about a change of heart, where one no longer desires to do evil, but do good (Mosiah 5:2). And we renew our covenants each Sunday when we take the Sacrament. I would sugguest 2 things for us to do: 1) Listen carefully and learn the words of the Sacrament prayers. Moroni Chapter 4 is the bread, and Moroni Chapter 5 is the water. 2) All of us every day should include in our prayers our sincere thankfulness for the sacrifice Christ made for us, and make the Atonement part of our daily lives. If you have not done lately, read this and then go on your knees and ask for forgiveness and get your lives in order. Otherwise, for you, the Atonement means nothing and you are lost forever. The time is short brothers and sisters. These are the last days. Alma 34:33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed. This is truly our day and time and learn about and receive our God. May all of us do this and walk forward with that change of heart. moptopfan50
  9. Ah...again I stirke with a post. This could be habit forming... well, since I obey the Word of Wisdom I need some form of habit to live with... dancergirl....I can help. I have not mentioned this yet, but back in 1978 (before your time) my very first calling was a Junior Sunday School teacher to -- you guessed it -- those cute adorable Mini Me sized 5 year olds. What a joy it was. I learned what is meant by "Out of the mouth of babes". They thought they were the boss and ruled. It was not easy getting them to sit and be quiet. Not sure I can remember exactly what I did since it was so long ago, but I do remember sitting down in a chair like they had and put them around me in a circle. I think I had like 10. I spoke in their language. I belive it was Pig Latin or some derivitive thereof, and we got along great. But they always loved the old bribe -- candy. Nothing like loading them up with sugar and sending them back to their parents. Not sure you can do that today, but it worked back then. You can always pray HARD before you start class, and if nothing else, remember the 23rd Psalm: "Yay, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, thou art with me".
