reyjamiei's Achievements

  1. The LDS Pearl of Great Price only contains selections from the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible, not the entire Bible. The Book of Moses is a selection from the JST Book of Genesis and Joseph Smith-Matthew is from the JST. Some editions of the LDS edition KJV Bible also contains additional selections from the JST in the back.
  2. The scriptures are also available in MP3 audio format for download http://www.lds.org/mp3/newarchive/0,18615,5249-1,00.html This link contains the Standard Works as well as Study Materials, General Conferences, Church Magazines, Teachings of Presidents of the Church, Jesus the Christ by James E. Talmadge and selected Hymns all available for download.
  3. I can attest to the truthfulness of that statement from personal experience. I just returned to the Church after being inactive for six years. I thought about going back to church for about four months before I actually did but each Sunday I didn't go, it was easier not to.

  5. That's a perfect example of LDS teaching on heaven. some will have more “treasure” in heaven.
  6. Maybe this'll help you understand a little easier. You asked how Mormons can believe in many gods when the Bible says there's only one God. the many gods has a lower case g whereas the one God has a capitol G. so there is one God but many gods. As paul said to the Corinthians: 1 Corinthians 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 1 Corinthians 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. Although he was writing to them about idols, verse 5 cannot be referring solely to idols unless you believe there are idols in heaven which I do not.
  7. Yes that verse is often used against Mormons and the Book of Mormon but anyone who's ever read the Book of Mormon knows or should know that it's not any other gospel. It's another Testament of Jesus Christ. On one hand people accuse it of being another gospel than the one the New Testament Apostles preached and on the other hand they accuse it of being too similar to the New Testament in some parts.
  8. The word church may be a New Testament term but we know that Moses was in the church at Mount Sinai. Act 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. Act 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: Act 7:39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
  9. I know this is an old post, but I want to reply to it anyway, I hope no one minds. John 1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Jesus Christ was with God from the beginning, of course he could have spoken to the prophets in 1 and 2 Nephi. Unless you believe that God and/or Jesus have limitations.
  10. I believe this is the statement that you're looking for. STATEMENT OF THE FIRST PRESIDENCY REGARDING GOD'S LOVE FOR ALL MANKIND February 15,1978 Based upon ancient and modern revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gladly teaches and declares the Christian doctrine that all men and women are brothers and sisters, not only by blood relationship from common mortal progenitors but as literal spirit children of an Eternal Father. The great religious leaders of the world such as Mohammed, Confucius, and the Reformers, as well as philosophers including Socrates, Plato, and others, received a portion of God's light. Moral truths were given to them by God to enlighten whole nations and to bring a higher level of understanding to individuals. The Hebrew prophets prepared the way for the coming of Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, who should provide salvation for all mankind who believe in the gospel. Consistent with these truths, we believe that God has given and will give to all peoples sufficient knowledge to help them on their way to eternal salvation, either in this life or in the life to come. We also declare that the gospel of Jesus Christ, restored to His Church in our day, provides the only way to a mortal life of happiness and a fulness of joy forever. For those who have not received this gospel, the opportunity will come to them in the life hereafter if not in this life. Our message therefore is one of special love and concern for the eternal welfare of all men and women, regardless of religious belief, race, or nationality, knowing that we are truly brothers and sisters because we are sons and daughters of the same Eternal Father. The Book of Mormon also makes this clear: For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it (2 Nephi 29:12). The Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have (Alma 29:8). I got it from this website: http://www.fairlds.org/The_God_Makers/tagm21.html It's about halfway down the page.
  11. The only people that don't seem to be bothered by that are the women in the LDS Church. At least I've never known one to complain or want to be in the priesthood.
