  1. A great Priesthood leader once taught me a very important lesson as I was struggling with something I had done wrong. I went to my Bishop and confessed a grevious sin from way in my past, a sin that was devouring my spirit. I cried like a bay when I finally confessed....after talking with the Bishop he said the words that healed me, "the Lord loves me and forgives me" and he said "the Lord will forgive who he wants to forgive but it is up to us to forgive all.....including ourselves." That was the hardest thing I had to do in the repentence process...forgive myself. It took weeks for me to do that, but when I had finally realised that the Lord "remembered it no more" I was free!
  2. Hi....You know, I went through something kind of similar about 12 years ago. During this time my wife and I were going to Temple preperation classes and were preparing ourselves to enter the Temple and partke of the marvelous blessing therein. We had set a date to be sealed.....then the night before we were to meet with the Bishop for our reccommend interviews she decided she did not want or need the church anymore. Two days later....she was gone....I can home from work and she was gone...A note said the kids were at a sitter and she was moving (on her way) to California. We were married for 14 years. Later I found out it she moved to california because that's where her boyfriend lived. She then had her named removed from the records of the church. A year and a half later I met a wonderful lady (non-member) and something told me she was the one I was supposed to got to the Temple with and be sealed to forever. (The Spirit) To make a long story short, we were married and 3 years later we were sealed in the Temple.......along with our 2 year old son. I firmly believe the Lord can and will direct us to the one we should be with. As far a divorce.....to rough, but it's not a sin. Sometimes it can be a blessing. The Lord holds marriage in high regard as we all should....and if you did your best to keep it together and at the same time followed the Spirit and kept your covenant...you have every right to be happy and share a life and eternity with a worthy Priesthood holder. Be comforted and know that the Lord is always with you. Please, please....go talk to your Bishop about what is happening in your life...you are not alone. Humble yourself and talk with God, get on your knees and talk to Him and listen....He will answer you. God bless you on your journey, Bro. D
  3. Huh? I just read those verses again and I didn't read a thing about any "tribulation period". Is this a phrase you just made up? Besides, we're talking about the the time when the word of God (The total word, the total truth, the fullness of the Gospel) would "fall away" and be taken from the earth where there would be a famin of the gospel unto the people. AND this was to happen before the second coming of Christ. I just don't read "a falling away of the fullness of the Gospel" to mean some kind of tribulation period where people who follow God will be persecuted. Maybe what you mean is during this "tribulation period" those whom follow God will not have the fullness of the Gospel and therefore many will be lead astray by the forces of darkness. Perhaps that's why they called it the "dark ages". But then following this tribulation period (great apostasy) the Lord will restore His Gospel to the earth! Which I can testify to you He has done through the Prophet Joseph Smith! Oh isn't it wonderful the Lord guides His people through a living Prophet as he had always done in the bible and that we have further revelation to clarify and restore those precious truths missing from the bible.
  4. With thanks to FADED: Amos 8:11-12 Quote: [11] Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: [12] And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. 2nd Thessalonians 2:1-3 Quote: [1] Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ [the Second Coming] is at hand. [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day [the Second Coming] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Okay...there you go 2, count em' 2 bible verses that tell of the "falling away" , the "great apostasy" where the word of God will not be found on the earth....it had to be restored. And praise God it was restored by the Lord Himself through His choosen Prophet Joseph Smith in 1830! I hope that those 2 bible verses are plain enough for you, they are simple and easy enough for me to understand.....or are you one of those who liken to twist what the Lord has said and come up with your own imaginary story? Hmmmm?
  5. I'll answer that question with a question...can you show me any verse in the Bible that shows me the fall of the Roman empire? You can't because it happened after the new testament was written....just as the great apostacy happened after the new testament. Besides it's in the Bible....one of them old prophets talks about a falling away of the Lord's church...can't remember the verse...help someone!
  6. Granted...you didn't have an upsetting dream last night, as a matter of fact you had no dreams last night nor in the future as you are now an insomniac and can't sleep a wink! I wish my oldest son would cut his long hair!
  7. Granted but your wife cooked everything you hate. I wish I there were 3 weekdend days and I got them all off all the time!
  8. I absolutely believe in global warming! Those unexpected blizzards we've experienced reciently are much warmer than usual! Really....they are!
  9. Huh? Pro-abortion/Pro-choice are the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I am all for womens rights...but I am also for the rights of the unborn. As far as your quote regarding what the church leadership say about abortion I think you are seriously wrong. I believe the only time the church leadership has ever said anything regarding being pro-abortion is when the mothers life is in serious danger. I do however recall a few talks about abortion being seriously sinful. Obama made a public announcement that he is going to sign the Freedom Of Choice Act, which will allow all types of abortions including partial birth abortions, also allowing babies who are born alive due to botched up late term abortions, to be set aside without any medical care or nourishment and left to die (most of these babies have no medical problems and most of the ones that do, have things like cleft palates, club feet, things that are correctable, still they are murdered in the most cruel and inhuman way. They feel everything that is happening to them. There is more mercy for dogs that are put to sleep) This Bill also will make it mandatory for doctors and nurses to perform this murderous act even if they do not want to do so. This act also allows under age teens to have an abortion, even partial birth abortions, without parental consent. In my heart I just cannot support a leader who supports this....period! Regarding the Bush tax cuts I was referring to in my post. I think you are confusing last years congressional stimulus package with the Bush tax cuts from 4 years ago. Those tax cuts included the $1000 per child tax credit. So when Obama and the democrats let the Bush tax cuts end without renewing them it will be exactly the same as raising taxes. In my personal case $3000 a year. And, please don't get me started on the Obama proposed stimulus package...2 trillion dollars? Do you have any idea where this money comes from? They borrow it from the treasury....but wait! The Treasury really has no more money....so they work 24/7 round the clock to print more. So, now you dollar is worth even less. AND guess what? (remember I said that Obama and congress has to borrow the money), Well, how does that money get paid back? Any clues? How about through more taxes and the people have to pay it back, us, our children and our children's children and beyond. Someone figured recently what last years stimulus will cost us...it was something like $900 for every $600 check sent out...AND WE HAVE TO PAY IT BACK...it's not free! Us, the ones who received the money have to pay it back...the government have become loan sharks with this economy!
  10. So, you agree with his pro-abortion babykilling policies? You like the fact that he plans to NOT extend the Bush tax cuts? I guess your idea of one who is qualified to lead the country is one who has 136 actual days experience in the U.S. Senate wherein he basically did nothing but vote "present"? To each his/her own I guess.....
  11. Well, sounds to me like the Spirit is trying to tell you something...are you going to listen?
  12. Glenn, First of all you are in no way a flake. In the Lords church family ALWAYS comes first and you are trying to keep yours together. If you have to be "away" from the church for a while for the sake of your family....do it. Remember, you can be away from the physical aspects of the church and draw nearer to the spiritual aspects by, as gabelpa mentioned, reading your scriptures (studying the Gospel) and praying. Just don't give up and don't lose your testimony, be an example to your family. The Lord will soften your wifes heart and the day will come when you and her enter the Temple together. Remember, you will never be able to convince her of the truth in the restored Gospel...that's the Spirit's job. Be faithful to Him and he will bless you. Godspeed my brother.
  13. Hi, I would like to respond to your original post first. Please tell your wife that no one in the church will talk to her about the church as long as she lets them know she is not interested. You need to assure her of this. When my wife and I were married she was not a member and had no desire to become a member. She didn't participate when the home teachers or missionaries stopped by. She was not interested in the church at all. I ran interference for her and told them she was not interested. From time to time she would ask me a question about the church and we'd discuss it but I never pressed her and it never went further than that. Eventually I got her to attend church social functions where she felt less intimidated by the members and actually enjoyed herself and met other members. Then 5 years after we were married she was baptized and is now a fully active Temple recommend holding member of the Lord's church. Here's how you do it. Teach by example, attend church every Sunday and keep the Sabbath holy.....fulfill all church callings....live the Gospel and be an example of a righteous Priesthood holder. Let the Spirit guide you in your marriage, always pray and ask the Lord to bless your marriage. Let your light shine on your family....your wife and children will see the wonderful change and the Spirit will touch them. But just remember one thing....your family always comes first before the church, not before the Lord, but before the church. In recent years I have seen a lot of non-member spouses join the church, some who'd I'd swear a few years before that there would be no chance. But the Lord does touch and soften hearts so the Spirit can bare testimony of the truth. As far as replying to this last post..... Right on man! You can't gain a testimony of anything without studying it out and learning. Also, in this case asking the Lord what is true. Godspeed on your journey in the Kingdom and with your family.
  14. Well my penguin friend I would not change one thing...I firmly believe that everyone has a right to life (including unborn babies), liberty and the pursuit of happiness or the freedom to be happy and seek joy.....as long as it is done under the standards the Lord has set as put forth by the founding fathers. Now think about this very carefully....what if it made a person very happy to seek out and rape children? Is that their "right"? To pursue their "happiness"? Should the government (or people) allow this liberty (or freedom) to them? And of course any sane person would say no, no, no! In a democracy it's the majority of the people who choose the standards and where the line is drawn through laws and the courts. The founding fathers started us out using the Lords standards and over the years Satan has twisted and changed and tweaked that standard and the liberal left is pushing it even further away from the Lord. It's called being "politically correct".... I'd rather live by the Lord's standard and be "religiously correct" Ahhh, but a lot of those "politically correct" folks will say,"Why should we conform to the religious rights standard, why should we accept it?" And the answer is: Because the majority have spoken! And that my penguin friend is how democracy works. In California a number of years ago the majority of people voted to ban gay marriage and it became law...then 4 left wing judges in San Francisco decided it wasn't fair or "politically correct" so they in their leftist wisdom overturned the peoples vote. And when they did this they took away the desires of the majority in favor of the desires of the minority. (this is not democracy) So, the only way the majority could win back their desires was to have it put in California's constitution that the only legally recognized marriage is between a man and a woman...that way no liberal judges could change the law at their whim....it could only be changed by the majority vote of the people of California.....ala a democratic vote! Without the Lord's standard this country would not have stood.... Without the Lord's standard this country cannot stand.... Just remember what happened to the Nephite nation!
  15. Well, lets take a look at what could happen if the gay community of this nation were given every "politically correct left-wing ALCU" right they want: 1) They could and have sued churches for violating their "right" to be married in said church. 2) They could and have forced teachers in public schools to teach about the normalcy of gay relationships. 3) They could and have sued adoption agencies run by religous organizations who would not place a child in their gay home. 4) Suppose legally married gay members of the LDS church wanted to go to the Temple? Remember they are not breaking the law of chastity as they are now legally married. Could they force the church to allow them to be sealed in the Temple?
  16. Huh? This country was founded on Christian principles! Read the constitution, read the D of I, read your money! And by the way, just for your information there is NOTHING in the constitution that says anything about seperation of church and state. The only time it mentions religon is where it says the government will have no state church, in other words there will be no government sanctioned church as was the norm in Europe at the time where citizens were forced to attend the state church and none other.
  17. That's not what I wrote...I wrote: "they want society to accept their lifestyles as normal", which is absolutely true. They believe that being gay is normal and therefore are trying to (through legislation) force mainstream society to accept their lifestyle as normal. Yes gays want rights, acceptance and equality....and they mostly have it, I don't have any problem with gays....if someone chooses that lifestyle then that's their choice....they are children of the most High God and have their free agency. What I don't like is those who choose that lifestyle trying to force me, through legislation to accept their lifestyle as normal. As members of the church of God we know this type of lifestyle is an abomination before the Lord and a sin. So, should we be forced to condone this abomination and sin as normal? Personally I do not want my children growing up in a world where they are force fed through the courts that homosexuality is normal. That in order to be "politically correct" they have to be taught in public schools that being gay is normal! As I said before....I stand with the Lord on this one!
  18. After reading through this thread I thought I'd put in my own 2 cents. For those that "feel" for the gays and their supposed "rights" and those that are on the fence about the whole SS marriage thing....just remember who's behind it all, who is the one who is trying to normalize gay relationships, trying to make society accept this lifestyle? It's become a "normal" thing on TV and in the movies. Satan is the father of all lies and he is doing all he can to undermine the standards of the Lord. "Oh, they just want their rights". NO, they want society to accept their lifestyles as normal. Homosexuality is a sin against God, it is unnatural in nature. I personally will never accept their sin as "normal" and I will stand and fight with the Lord to preserve His standard. Slowly and surely Satan has made the sinful things of this world "normal" to the eyes of society. If those who stand behind gay marriage because they believe it's their "right"....then what about the next perverted group in line wanting their "rights" too? Maybe Bob wants to marry his dog? Or Shirley wants to marry her horse? What about a pedophiles "right" to have pictures of children? I could go on and on....see how dangerous this is? The sad thing is this is how Satan has operated.....think back just 40 years ago....the Lords standard was heeded a lot more than it is today. Satan is winning this war people. We have to stand and fight with the Lord! And that's my 2 cents.
  19. My wife and I along with our daughter went through the L.A. Temple the mornings of the 14th and 15th. The gates were wide open, with normal security and no protesters. (they were sleeping off their hangovers from the nights before)
  20. I know exactly where you are coming from...when I was a Catholic a lot of things made no sense to me either until I found the Lord's true church. The WOW states: "Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." Think about this carefully, the Lord says, "only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." Back in 1835 they had no refrigerators, freezers etc. so the Lord in His wisdom told the Saints not to eat meat when it was warm outside IE: late Spring, Summer and early Fall. What happens to meat when it's warm? It goes bad fast and could make one very ill. The Lord does not tell the Saint to refrain from eating meat....He tells them,"they are to be used sparingly." Back in 1835 they didn't have corner grocery stores where you could go and get anything your heart desires. They had very few choices in food. Grain and breads were the staple, some meat and poultry, a few types of fruits and vegetables that were in season. The Lord was concerned that His people not eat only meat but a variety of what was available. In todays world you can have your steak, potato, green beens, salad and nice fruit cup desert and you are getting all the nutrition you need. In 1835 in the winter the best you could do was bread, meat, and milk. No veggies and no fruits. Imagine what would happen if you were to eat only meat for a couple of months? Grain and bread are okay to do that with but not meat. The Lord knew best back then and the Lord knows best now.....think about the Saints in the third world countries today who would heed the Lords counsel regarding using meat sparingly? It continues to hold true. As far as church owned cattle ranches....that's meat raised for the church welfare system and when needed it's given to families in just as equal quantities as grains, fruits and vegetables. The Lord does NOT tell members of His church to not eat meat. The Lord does tell members of His church to not consume alcohol. I hope that clears up your confusion.
  21. You teach seminary? I sincerely hope you are not teaching this group of anti-Mormon mumbo jumbo to your students! I am going to answer your questions with how they were answered for me by the missionaries when I took the discussions and also give you the "truth" as fully documented by the church. Here we go: 1. Q. Why was Joseph Smith killed? A: He was murdered along with his brother Hyrum because of his beliefs by a mob of his persecutors wearing black on their faces to conceal their identities. TRUTH: As stated in the Nauvoo city charter the mayor AND city leaders had the right to stop any and all persons who would cause a civil unrest. He had the press and printing office destroyed after printing malicious lies about the church and it's leaders and this fell under the right to stop a civil unrest. He was then charged and he and his brother turned themselves in. He was never "captured" as you state. He and his brother were murdered while incarcerated in jail. Not by anyone of authority but by a mob lead by a local "preacher". 2. Q. Did Joseph Smith practice polygamy? A. Yes, but it was ordained of God as was Moses, Abraham, David etc. TRUTH: There is proof that Joseph Smith had many wifes, Some were married to him and lived with him in the traditional sense. The others he was only sealed to them and they lived with their real husbands. He NEVER denied this was happening and NEVER hid it from his wife. 3. Q. How did Joseph translate the plates? A. He had the plates in front of him, often with a sheet separating him and the scribe, then with the use of the U &T (sometimes not) he would read word for word from the plates. TRUTH: The fact is Joseph Smith translated the plates by the power of God. And there are many documented ways the Prophet performed the translation. The most common was that he used the U & T, sometimes he didn't use anything, sometimes he did the rock in the hat thing. 4. Q. Has any evidence ever been found to prove the story of the Book of Mormon. Where are the horses, the Elephants, the geography, the mounds of steel swords, breastplates, and helmets? Why is the DNA of the present day "Lamanites" not connected in any way to people of middle eastern descent? A. Has any physical evidence ever been found to prove the existence of God? Of Jesus Christ? There would be no faith if there was physical evidence. Same rings true for the book of Mormon...maybe the Lord wants you to rely on faith. TRUTH: the Book of Mormon has only been around 178 years, they have only been researching and studying and digging in the areas where the book of Mormon could have taken place for less that 70 years whereas they've been doing the same thing in the middles east for over 1300 years. They have recently discovered a horse like creature and pygmy elephant that graced the ares in the BoM times. ALSO, the DNA argument holds no water, it's a proven fact that in no way a DNA marker from a middle eastern human could survive after centuries of extrobreeding. Given that fact it was a mere handful of people (Lehi's family) that came here and their descendants coupling with the indigenous people at the time (mostly of Asian origin) the middle eastern DNA marker was soon bred out of them. And how long do you think a steel sword, breastplate or helmet could last in the humid climate of South America? 16 centuries? I seriously doubt it could last 2. And finally your statement: "Uhhh... You'll learn about the meat of the gospel later in your life after you've joined the church." These questions you brought up had absolutely nothing to do with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing. They pertained to the history of Joseph Smith and evidences of the BoM. But nothing to do with the Gospel. If a missionary doesn't answer one of these questions with a "complete" or "detailed" answer it's not because he is hiding anything or keeping the "meat" of the Gospel from someone, it's because he is charged to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.....not the detailed history of the church.
  22. Richard Dutcher was on an ego trip...that's why he just had to star in his first real film and play parts in his others. God's Army was the first real piece of Mormon cinema of any value. It was well written and pretty much well acted (except for Ditcher....he's mediocre at best). God's Army made Dutcher a ton of money and he was in the headlines. The next two films didn't do as well but they made enough to keep Dutcher and his crew working. In the meantime other Mormon filmmakers started to see the potential of Mormon cinema and started cranking out their own pic's....some great, some just OK, and some not. IE; Singles Ward, The RM, The Home Teachers, Best Two Years...etc.. Then, Dutcher made God's Army 2 States of Grace and it tanked at the box office. (I thought it was a great movie) Now, following this huge money looser was the time when Dutcher decided he couldn't make money with his brand of Mormon cinema and decided to leave the church. Some say for spiritual reasons. In my opinion he left for two reasons...he felt cheated by the "Mormon" people for not supporting his movie and he left because he didn't want to face possible excommunication for making not so wholesome movies, (which was his plan). He has since taken up drinking and smoking cigars trying to "fit" into Hollywood. Oddly enough his wife and children are still strong in the Gospel and church. I saw "Falling" and it really sucked....big time. Dutcher is a horrible actor.
  23. 1) Where did I come from? 2) Why am I here? 3) Where will I go after I die? You'll need about 6 appointments to receive the answers to these questions! Good luck and Godspeed!
  24. Congratulations...the Lord is blessing your family! The simplest and easiest way to introduce your children to the Gospel is to live it! Become spiritually prepared and prepare your children by taking them to church EVERY Sunday and stay the whole 3 hours, I involve them in every church sponsored activity and be there with them. Have scripture study everyday with your husband...it doesn't have to be more than 20 minutes, 10 if your children want to be involved, practice family prayer every night, hold family home evening every Monday night. Hang pictures of the first presidency, the first vision, Jesus Christ etc. on your walls. Live the Gospel, be the example to your children and they will follow you into the kingdom of God and in the not too distant future your family will be sealed together forever in the Lords Holy Temple. I'm so happy for you..... Bro. & Sis D.
  25. Hello SuperBaldGuy! Yes, I once fasted 48 hours, although the second day I had to take some water......I noticed a direct benefit.....I lost and extra 2lbs.! Actually, the fast is a sacrifice for the Lord, it shows Him our willingness to sacrifice in an ever so small way compared to what he has done for us. To me it doesn't matter how long you fast but it's your true intent and what's in your heart that matters most.
