  1. Well, let's consider that for a moment... Soooo, Jonah wasn't a prophet? What he proclaimed didn't happen either, even though he said it would. It doesn't mention the 'unless' phrase "IF you don't repent...". It simply says that the city will be destroyed. Or am I missing something here?? He certainly wasn't a model prophet if you say he was a prophet. He tried to run away from the LORD and in turn got swallowed by a whale. Your call on making him your example. Any others? Your call. I would say maybe mistranslated. But if you want to discount the whole book because of that, go right ahead. p.s. Don't worry. I know you were trying to be clever.
  2. I wrote a blog about it, but in short (VERY short), it was causing severe depression in my life, and (to me anyway) it doesn't make any sense.
  3. Deuteronomy 18:20-22 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." 21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
  4. I only had it happen after I left the church. I moved a few hundred times and shook them, then lectured my dad about giving out my address. I NEVER had that problem when I was a member though. I was invisible as a member.
  5. They never even tried to call though. lol.
  6. There is a friend of mine who was complaining about LDS members coming without calling. This only started happening after they left the church. I was like , "HEY! SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!" because I am a loud person, and I yell everything. Anyway, we got the response from an RM that: "As a Mormon missionary, we always preferred to make unannounced visits in person instead of calling. From my perspective at the time, our goals to teach people and commit them to meetings were much more reachable if we could talk face to face. This was especially true for inactive members. " We all still agreed that picking up a phone and catching us coming out of the shower (which would ALWAYS happen to me) or during dinner is not very polite. Is it worth it to come unannounced? Do you actually have better luck talking to us that way? In all honesty, I was nice to them, but they picked up I was not interested, and I sent my BF to talk to the missionaries. He is very assertive where as I am not. I guess my main question is, because we are inactive, does that mean that you can't call us on the phone anymore? I am just as polite on the phone or in an email as I am in person. I will not lash out. I will just politely say I don't want a visit today. I will call you when I am ready.
  7. I know I can. That is not why it would be cool to meet one. I hear them talk all the time whenever I want to. They never answer any of my questions. They always make more.
  8. I mean apostle or member of the presidency. And I guess you wouldn't need to meet them them. You see them talk twice a year.
  9. I'm allergic to cats, and I can't afford one.
  10. This is just a fun topic for everyone. I am just curious. Say you could meet a church leader!!! That would be SO COOL! To see what he has to say! What would you ask?
  11. "Adam fell that men might be, and men are that they might have joy" 1 Nephi 2:25 if I haven't forgotten.
  12. No. That is okay. I am getting a lot of support and help with writing my letter, and I am excited about my exit story which I will include with my letter.
  13. Although a picture holds a thousand words, they aren't the same words for everyone. If you are trying to say something, you'll have better luck with words in this case.
  14. Good question... I've wanted to know that myself, but I try not to dwell.....
  15. I am not talking about the churches. I am talking about the people in my family. I am not concerned about what some people I have never met and have never met me think about some letter I sent. I am concerned about how my loved ones react, and whether the church suddenly thinks I need to be visited more.
  16. REALLY???? Nuggets!!! I need to tie up some loose ends here. No one will care if I officially resign from there, I just want to do the LDS one delicatly...
  17. I was a Catholic, and I never wrote a letter of resignation. I guess I am a Catholic Mormon. And yes, he did.
