  1. I can totally understand how you feel - for a long time my mother has struggled with church attendance because of health problems - she finds it hard that she never gets VT/HT and like you she can no longer drive and we are 7miles from the chapel. I can't think of anything I can say that will make you feel better other than to point out that while the church is perfect it is made up of imperfect individuals and we can strive to do is be the best the we can be. One of my hardest struggles was not learning that the church was true but learning that dispite other peoples actions the church is still true. I think I would suggest that you phone the temple and get not only your name on the prayer roll but also that of the Bishop, RS president and if you know them your HT/VTs. Regardless of how you have been treated by your ward members Heaven Father still loves you.
  2. Try parish records - and births death and marriage records
  3. If you have a street address then it should be easier to work out the rest with the records that exist.
  4. If you know roughly were in the UK/Ireland they came from you could start by researching census records and old parish records - in the UK census is held in the first year of every decade so 1801, 1811 etc and take it from there. However because of things that have happened in the past there is a lack of Irish records so that will make it harder
  5. I got tickets for the Devotional - but sadly didn't realise that the Christmas Concert was the day we travel home Utah - if we had realised we would have stayed and extra day and tried to get tickets
  6. From a dictionary of religions at my high school - cant remember word for word as it was a while ago - but it went something like this "Mormons behead their sinners"
  7. Personnally I think that no one should be pressurised into serving a Mission - going to college could be a good step towards him being ready to serve a mission. If the church felt that young men should only serve at the lower end of the age bracket they wouldn't have an age bracket as such - and missions benefit from having Elders who are a bit older.
  8. What I found interesting is that some of the things that I have felt for a while - ie the importance of being able to cook over an open fire etc where mentioned often. I throughly enjoyed the book and was often found reading while walking between my house and my mothers!
  9. My Choir will starting Christmas music as soon as I can afford to print out the music for the piece we are going to sing - but we are fledging choir - so will be sing one piece at our Christmas carol service - hopefully!
  10. Haha - that is funny - I have only had limited use of a church photocopier and it was dodgy! I now photocopy church stuff in the local library!
  11. Yes he does! At least I believe so - otherwise why would have plants in the middle of the jungle - far, far away any ocean that have a "perfume" that smells like rotting fish? Also if we are created in His image and likeness then the fact that most people have a sense of humor would be another indicator that he has one!
  12. I swing between both sometimes I am definately a morning person other times I night owl - and it can switch very quickly - at the moment I am somwhere in between!
  13. The randomness of my day was that I spent 2 hrs making a Mouse bride and bridesmaid out of marzipan and fondant icing :)
  14. Isn't there 5 books in the series? I am sure I read 5! I really enjoyed them though!
  15. Another thought that came to my mind on this subject is that - keeping the commandments can be as easy or as hard as week let it - I decided long ago that I wouldn't shop on the Sabbath - but obviously that is hard if you are new to the church and grew up shopping on a sunday. However if you make a decision - it is made and doesn't have to be made again! I know that might be idealistic. But Heavenly Father didn't say that keeping his commandments would be easy only that in the end the reward will be worth it!
  16. I think it is really important - I don't think Heavenly Father would give us a commandment if it was important! I have a testimony of the importance of keeping the sabbath. When I moved away to university - I never studied on a sunday - and only shopped once (the bus to church was exact fares which I didn't realise plus the clocks changed so had an hour nto wait in the cold so broke the note by buying a hot choc!). Anyway even when I had a Monday deadline I wouldn't study on a sunday - and I never once failed to meet a deadline or felt that my work suffered as a result.
  17. My house mate loves precious moments! I was shopping tonight and found a book called The Guinea Pig Nativity - I thought that was very random
  18. We don't have Milo in the UK but ovaltine is gross! I love cherry tomatoes wrapped in a slice of ham and ham sandwiched between a couple of pringles!
  19. To me as an outsider - with American friends who support both sides of the week - it is very much how it comes across to at least!
  20. How many inches are in a yard - I grew up with metric not imperial measurements
  21. I don't see an option for "politians are behaiving like spoilt children - throwing a temper until they get what they want"
  22. Growing up my sister would eat cheese and M&Ms, she would suck the juice out of grapes but wouldn't drink grape juice or eat grapes, drank orange juice but wouldn't oranges, ate apples but wouldn't drink apple juice, ate tomato ketchup and tomato soup but wouldn't eat tomatoes.
  23. Try planting the carrots in pipes with sand or compost - that is how competitive growers grow them Also if you have compost bin - you will get great potatoes if you grow them directly in the compost bin! That is what my mother used to do
  24. I got one butternut squash shaped pumpkin, one tiny green bell pepper and some cherry tomatoes - so not really enough to do anything with. If I hadn't wrecked my ankle picking blackberries to enter into the town Horticultural show (they placed 1st) I would have been had a massive harvest of them. I do have some elderberries in the freezer - I am going to try making jam at some point. I only moved into this property in June so don't have much of a garden - but I have started composting and hopefully over the will will be able to build some raised beds so I can grow more next year.
