  1. It sounds like maybe it's case-by-case. That sounds a bit more reasonable to me.
  2. A sealing can be broken on earth. I know this because, unfortunately, I have several friends who have had it done. Each was approved by the Prophet (or so I was told). The children in all four cases "went with"...remained sealed to the Mother. Without going into the Temple Ordinances think hard about what you learned in the Temple. Just because one spouse chooses to remain sealed and seeks out the other, does not require the other to accept it. We must all remain worthy of such a blessing. I personally believe that whatever happens (regarding spouses/family, etc), as long as we live such that we are worthy of the blessings of the highest degree of glory, we will be happy with the outcome and how we spend eternity. I for one, could use the quiet time (LOL). Sorry...don't mean to make light of it..but wow, today no one is home but me and I tell ya, I do like the silence in the air. LOL.
  3. Looking at the date on this post, wow. So sorry to have opened up a nearly 10 year old thread! Wowza.
  4. LOL. I do drink vinegar...it's great for muscle cramps. Actually, haven't had to take a swig in almost a year, but believe it or not, one or two swigs and in about 30 seconds to a minute, the cramp is gone. And since I am normally passed out from the disgusting drinking of the vinegar, it's not my choice of beverage either. LOL Nasty stuff to swig.....
  5. And I did notice after several posts, the dates on the posts. I have to watch that. I didn't realize they were old until my last post when I shook my head and told myself I am too old for this. LOL.
  6. Thanks, Skippy. I read the rules, have no concerns with them, but as I was reading through posts I saw all kinds of people being banned. Having participated in many forums over the years, I've seen a lot of moderators just not care for some points of view and kick people out. No, not saying you or anyone in here does it...it just concerned me because I was honest and it seems those that I commented on were making a lot of posts. I'm a newbie around here, and realize that puts me at the bottom of the scale. Which is okay too. Tis life. It's good to know you do permit opinions even if they are not of your own. Thanks for the comment. I truly appreciate it. Letrell
  7. At BYU wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when, my D&C class, was when I first heard Kolob mentioned. We were taught that it is the planet nearest to our Heavenly Father and quite possibly is where He resides. I wish I had a better memory where quoting people and scriptures is concerned...there was a talk sometime between present day and about 35 years ago..a conference talk or BYU devotional where Kolob was discussed. I will now go search for it. It was therein stated that Kolob is where our Father dwells. I'll find it. Just may take some digging. I have heard Elohim used my entire life.
  8. BrendaM has hit the nail on the head...tithing isn't about the money. Tithing has nothing to do with money. The Lord doesn't need our money. His work will move forward regardless of whether or not we support Him. Can we afford to pay tithing? That's not even close to the question we should be asking...Can we afford to not pay it? Tithing is about obedience. Plain and simple. Pay it or don't, it's between each of us and the Lord. As for me, I sure as heck don't plan on standing in front of the Lord trying to explain to Him why my worldly choices were worth more than His commandments. Nope. Ain't happening.
  9. Thanks for the greeting, but not sure I'll be here long. I just kinda sorta hollered at some in a post on tithing. I may end up banned. If so, was a nice 2 hours. LOL
  10. I'm wondering if this post is gonna get me banned my first day on here. Regardless, I gotta interject something...I'm staring at the rationalizations in total disbelief. Guys, tithing is tithing is tithing...we are not given the "option" to pay when we feel we should. At a minimum we are commanded to pay 10% "of our increase"...I believe that is what everyone is going on. A gift is indeed an increase. How can you say you don't have to tithe because you didn't work for it? Come on.... you didn't have the money before it was given to you. You have it now. A rationalization, regardless of how "rational" it is, is still just making an excuse for not paying. Pay it or don't. It's between you and the Lord. But holy cow, please don't go telling everyone it's okay to not pay because it was a gift, or whatever the reason.
  11. D&C 89: 2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the word of wisdom, showing forth the order and will of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days— 3 Given for a principle with a promise, adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints. 4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation— 5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him. That said, here is my 2 cents. Very simply, the Lord expects each of us to make our own determinations. He has given us a "principle with a promise". Follow this great principle and you will be blessed. In this, I believe you must follow what you can live with. If it bothers you to use cooking wines, etc, Hon, don't use them. If you feel comfortable doing it, do so. And if all else fails and you truly can not decide or it tears you up inside, go see your Bishop. Listen to his counsel. You'll be just fine. As far as specifics...here's a bit of info for you: A study by a team of researchers at the University of Idaho, Washington State University, and the US Department of Agriculture's Nutrient Data Laboratory calculated the percentage of alcohol remaining in a dish based on various cooking methods. The results are as follows: alcohol added to boiling liquid & removed from heat - 85% alcohol retained alcohol flamed - 75% alcohol retained no heat, stored overnight - 70% alcohol retained baked, 25 minutes, alcohol not stirred into mixture - 45% alcohol retained baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture: Time (h) / % Alcohol retained 0.25 40% 0.5 35% 1.0 25% 1.5 20% 2.0 10% 2.5 5% Another thing to look at is the quantity. As an example: if you use a cup of wine for a roast; the roast cooks 2 - 3 hours, you have retained the flavor and according to the chart, about 5% of the alcohol. Now slice that roast up. Say...10 pieces all the same size....you are retaining less than 1/2% of the alcohol that was in it. I see nothing wrong with cooking with alcohol. I have been cooking many years and have used it on rare occasion. I personally don't care to use it (I have maybe all of 3 times in 40 years) because quite frankly, I don't like the taste. And why would I want to acquire a taste for it? Certainly, I don't want my kids to enjoy it. Listen to your heart and to the Spirit. And please don't beat yourself up over it. You do what you know is right in your heart, the Lord will surely bless you for it.
  12. Hello to everyone. I'm new to the site. Been a member of the Church going on 40 years. Things are slowing down with kids getting older, getting ready to head off to missions and college and military, and oh my....thinking I may have some spare time to chat and interact a bit. Tried the other chat venues and wow, so NOT what I am looking for. Just hoping for a bit of communication when I have down-time. Husband is still out in the work force, I work part-time on occasion. I'm nothing dramatic, nursery leader in our ward, 3 adorable little spirits. I love the calling but miss Sunday School. We have a tremendous teacher in our ward. I do fill-ins for teachers when they need it. I love the Gospel, love the Lord so very much. Words can not describe my love of Heavenly Father. I adore Him and all that my life is. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. Letrell
