  1. This is a prophet in 2013 saying that a prophet in 1850 was wrong. How can I trust the prophet in 2013? Maybe it was Brigham Young that was right, and the current one is just swaying with popular opinion, or his own opinion. I joined the church in 1992, when I was taught that blacks are a cursed race, that has the blood of Cain, and the curse of Ham's son. In the late 70's the Lord through inspiration to Kimball allowed this cursed race to receive the priesthood. Why didn' t he clarify that the curse was completely made up by a racist? I was also taught that homosexuals are not born that way. I am going to stick with what I was taught.
  2. Yea, totally. He is a super nice guy. However I have not had a chance to sit next to a prostitute at a ward function. My wife doesn't like me socializing with prostitutes, or strippers for that matter. She is a bit old fashioned that way.
  3. I was just sitting next to a very nice guy at a ward function last week, who is also an IRS agent.
  4. I know the goal lately since the new church website came out is that we need to make everyone feel comfortable in our church, but I think my wife and I would suddenly be the uncomfortable ones. I am considering skipping church on January 13th if I hear a lot of buzz about this in my ward My ward did have some of the pants wearers yesterday. I am concerned about my kids seeing what Reginald is describing above. We live in an area where I could really see this happening.
  5. Dear Forum, I am a very conservative old fashioned person, but I am in my 30's I am married in the temple and have three children, and am an active member of the church I joined the church while I was in college back in '92. One of the things I appreciated about the church is that they had a very strong stance against homosexuals. The church used to teach that homosexuals were not born that way, but that it is a perversion or extremely sinful behavior, much like a sex addiction, or a pedophile, or married man or woman that cheats on his spouse 30 times. I went on a mission in '95 and by the time I got back in '97 it seamed the whole world had changed a little while I was gone. Suddenly everybody I knew had a computer in their home, and homosexuals seemed to be way more common. Even in Idaho where I am from. It's like they all came out of the closet at the same time. Now suddenly the gays want to get married and be recognized as real families. They want special protections so that if they are assaulted, it is not just assault, it is a hate crime. The want local laws passed so that land lords and business owners will be sued if they don't want a homosexual living in their rental, or working next to them. The church came under fire for donating millions of dollars and man hours to pass Proposition 8 in California. I was proud of this accomplishment, and felt it was a great thing. I understand there was an overwhelming backlash from gays and their liberal friends. As well as liberal/moderate members within the congregation. Liberals know that the LDS church is largely responsible for that bill passing, and they are very angry. I went to a website yesterday called Mormonsandgays.org. On this website the church announced that they basically apologize for their anti gay stance, and have changed official doctrine to recognize that homosexuals are born that way. And that as long as homosexuals refrain from sexual relations, they can hold many church positions, enter the temple and have full fellowship. This has probably always been policy, and I understand that we can't block people from worshiping that want to. But it's the born that way change that bothers me. I find it hard to believe that someone could act like one of those crazy flaming homosexuals, because they are born that way. Are people born as pedophiles then? Are the people with the strange fetishes born that way as well? What about the situations where a young boy is molested, and then becomes gay later in life? Surely he was not born that way? Or the battered angry wife, that divorces her husband and moves in with a woman and becomes a lesbian? Surely she was not born that way, but has turned her back on traditional relationships, because of her bad experience, and experiments. On Mormonsandgays.org you will see professional videos where several gay people were interviewed, and their mannerisms were disgusting to me, and a couple of them even mentioned how wonderful and fulfilling their gay relationships were, but that they decided that attending church and feeling the spirit is better than the rabid phyiscal intimacy they enjoyed from their many male boyfriends. I found the people in these videos revolting. You will also see apologies by general authorities. I wonder why Boyd K Packer isn't in one of these videos? I shelter my young kids very much. They do not watch movies with any intimate scenes, don't go on the internet except for kids sites, and then under supervision, and we don't let them play at other kids houses unless we really know the family well. I am concerned about them encountering the flamboyant behavior of a homosexual person. And personally I don't want to see it either. I am sick of their agenda. I want it the way it was 20+ years ago before they were emboldened during the internet age. I don't think that gays that get married and adopt kids are families. I feel like the church is jumping the bandwagon now, because they know that this lifestyle is going to be completely acceptable in another 20 years across the board, and that people that voice opinions like my own then, will be looked at like racists are now. Like crackpots. I don't shop at Target because they donate money to gay causes, I don't use Apple products because I feel that in the early days before they became mainstream, they targeted homosexuals as customers. When I see a flamboyant flaming homosexual, or transsexual working at a business, I always call that business and complain. When I was buying my current home, the listing agent for a home I wanted was a flaming homosexual. I bought a different house from a different agent, so that I would not be creating a $4000 payday for the gay agent, and bankrolling his next fun-filled vacation. I will also make sure that my son never joins the military now that homosexuals are allowed to roam free in the barracks. Even though before I have always had the utmost admiration for the military. My issue is, for years I have clearly not supported groups that help homosexuals. Yet my tithe and fast offerings could presumably go to paying rent, medical care and other support for gays. I feel that the homosexual agenda is a massive evil force even more damaging than terrorists. To me they are public enemy number one. Yet now we are coddling them and their liberal friends. And at the same time the church is alienating church members. Church leaders, have the right to change anything they want. They are in charge after all, but they may lose some members like me.
