Lakumi got a reaction from Latter Days Guy in Practical helps from the Book of Mormon
In my BoM the first I highlighted was Nephi 2 9:30, it always spoke to me, and still remains my favourite passage.

Lakumi got a reaction from Backroads in Childhood things now extinct!
Do kids even know how to climb a tree before? Anyone who didn't know was ostrasized for being lazy or fat.
Sure it was kind of mean, but these kids did nothing but sit around all day playing video games (the ones who could afford them) they could never keep up with us and our games.
Sometimes we just thought hey lets go pick rasberries, or, lets go to the big hill and make a fort in the forest.
There was no adults, there was no "oh call us at so and so time" it was "be home by dark"
Mom cut the cable in the summer and we were outside.

Lakumi got a reaction from MrShorty in "Good Girl Syndrome" within marriage
Well sexuality is not a switch one can flick, some people who are taught that way can't bring themselves to think any differently even when married. It still seems bad to them.
I mean you can apply that idea to a lot of things, the human brain is a complex thing.
Growing up I was never taught about modesty or chastity or anything like that, and the idea of modesty and chastity are strange to me. I never grew up with that idea of thinking, and I can't just flick a switch and think that way.

if you use good ol' fashioned traps, bait them with peanut butter, not cheese
rodents are much smarter then we give them credit for and can set off the trap without getting hurt to get the cheese, peanut butter they cannot.

Lakumi got a reaction from Blackmarch in How mission calls are made.
I always thought it would be more like an RPG, like Dungeons and Dragons
"Alright, roll the d20, do you have any skills in this area Elder?"
"My missionary has a particularly strong testamony and thus I get +3 to my rolls instead of the usual +2!"
"Then you get a +4 to your roll in total, as we have established this investigator already has a strong testamony himself, giving another +1"
"Natural 20!"
"Alright, you not only baptized the investigator but he convinced his wife and son to join as well, they will be temple worthy soon"

Lakumi got a reaction from talisyn in Stop dressing so tacky for church
But would Jesus even care about the attire, if you came with a willing heart and a listening ear? The most poor have no good clothes, would they be excluded because they are poor?

Lakumi got a reaction from Suzie in Stop dressing so tacky for church
Not everyone owns respectful clothing, I don't own any nice clothing and don't have the money to buy it.
I make it a point not to wear my worst clothes but I am not in dress shoes, fancy shirt, etc-my shoes for example, I only own 1 pair.
I do listen, my clothes do not reflect my intentions when I go, but if you are saying I am not wanted because I can't afford to look as nice as everyone else, regardless of my intentions, then I don't know what to tell you. It's the best I can do, and if that's the additude, then why would I want to go?
I don't remember Jesus getting all mad when the poor and the diseased came to him dressed in rags to hear him speak, but now he cares?
I understand the difference between dressing in a lousy way and in a poor way, but a lot of people don't seem to be able to tell the difference.

I can give you, and by extention him, all sorts of pointers, I have spent most of my days thinking about it and writing things down. Now personally I enjoy solitude and see anything else as undesirable, PM me if you want to have a more indepth conversation, I may be at least a little bit of use.

Lakumi got a reaction from The Folk Prophet in The life path of conservative thinking
I am always open to new ideas, I would never shut myself off to them, that is why I am here, really. (And to make sure you all don't get to used to normality lol)
I know I can be stubborn, but even my stubborness can't ignore facts and truth and all that. And really who knows what the future will bring, I like to feel confident I know myself in and out but the future can bring things I have not thought of.

Lakumi got a reaction from Str8Shooter in General Conference Oldies but Goodies
For me, the earlier the more interesting. As my love of history often is the basis for further learning I often look up talks from early church leaders, so while I was only born in 1989, (starting at the 1990 General Conferance for me, just sounds...I donno, not that long ago lol)
