  1. No I didn’t think you were being a snot or talking to me, but truth is truth and it applied to me too. Thanks.
  2. Fair enough, I’m done in this thread. Sorry for any confusion or anything else I caused.
  3. I’ve experienced relief treating neuro-inflammation, so I’ll have to disagree. Of course there’s no silver bullet, but it’s one thing to say “people cause their own mental illness through bad habits,” and it’s another to say “brain inflammation will cause depressive symptoms even with all the best habits in the world in place.” The medical studies are pointing out the latter (forget the first link I posted, I’ve been looking into this for years, that’s just the first one I googled since I’m not at my computer, like I said, there is a worldwide body of evidence surrounding MDD and neuro-inflammation’s effect on dopamine release/neurogenesis).
  4. Is this more practical for you? https://news.emory.edu/stories/2023/01/som_bhc_inflammation_felger/story.html
  5. I do use a phone for this site, well called. Copying and pasting is rather burdensome. So to sum up for you, parents of an abuse victim were counseled by a bishop to “let the church handle it,” and the abuser said despite confessing to cops he wasn’t prosecuted and assumed it was because the parents didn’t press charges. The abuser’s stake president told the abuser to confess to cops. So there’s that at least. I know of other anecdata not in the news that fueled my opinions on this issue but I know better than to bring that up, for heaven’s sake, we can’t even agree on plain English news articles! So why I’d be banned from a community I’ve belonged to since 2006 is beyond me, what, for not copying and pasting when someone demanded me to? And that article on neuro-inflammation is one of three resources I posted, do you seriously think that’s all the evidence there is? That’s why I said, “for starters,” as in, any intellectually curious person can go look through a rather large field of study for themselves. As someone who’s struggled with brain illness and MDD and had SPECT brain scans verifying the inflammation and found relief treating inflammation, I posted the info in the hopes it would help someone else. Thanks for mocking my attempt at helpfulness and ignoring critical jargon in the article. Geez. @pam do you think I’m an anti-mormon?
  6. @Vort no offense brother but it’s devilish hard to meaningfully interact with you for some reason so I’m going to opt out for awhile. Try not to take it personally, my time is too precious to me. Be well.
  7. Just what it says. I figured you’d read it.
  8. Now you know of it: hubermanlab.com ”Change Your Brain, Change Your Life” (book) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5947107/ Those are for starters…
  9. Or I’m uninterested in playing the “you-make-a-demand-and-I-copy-and-paste-for-you” game. Sorry you can’t see it in the article.
  10. Reread the article, it’s right there @Vort. Also I’m uninterested in proving you wrong. You can either read and comprehend the article or not, no skin off my nose. Be well.
  11. I think “mental illness” is a misnomer. Much is actually “brain illness” and related to neuro-inflammation and disregulated or dysfunctional neural circuits/regions (left dorso-lateral prefrontal cortex, etc). The mental symptoms are just that: symptoms, not causes.
  12. “Preach falsely”? Geez, escalate much? Try re-reading the KUTV article, if you can’t do 2 + X = 4 with the article, sorry. 😁
  13. I was born in ‘81 for the record, hahahaha. Thanks for the history lesson, makes me wonder if anyone read their scriptures or not back then: Paul describes the attributes of Christ-like love/charity, and 1 John 4:8 says they who love not know not God, for God is Love. Glad we’ve come a long way, I hope we keep progressing towards a brighter world for everyone.
  14. The Michael Ballam version was my favorite, wish it was back in rotation. 😎
  15. I’ve thought about all the factors and forces affecting those scenarios, and I really can appreciate what you’re trying to say. That’s a fine piece of anecdata (truly) accompanied by a false either-or scenario. It’s not “keep the abuser in a position to abuse more, OR send kids to foster care.” What about the ward family providing day care if a mom has to work in an incarcerated father’s absence? What about fast offerings if the mom’s job is insufficient to pay the bills? There are so many resources available to Church members that mentioning foster care in the same sentence as mentioning removing an abuser from the abused’s presence seems silly to me. The problem may be that those who’ve covenanted in the temple to live the law of Consecration, are not actually willing to live that Law. My critique of some in the Church is based on what I’ve observed which is those at the top and those at the bottom are in harmony, but middle-managers begin to worry more about controlling how the Church is perceived than they do about how an abused person perceives the value of continuing to live as part of God‘s kingdom. I can only imagine being abused by someone I live with, and being told by my local shepherd, “Continue to live with the source of that trauma everyday, be triggered everyday, cement your PTSD more each day, oh and there’s a chance they’ll abuse you or someone else again but…we don’t want to have to put you in foster care.” 😣 I don’t mean to be unnecessarily harsh, but that literally is insane to me. They should get counseling AND the abuser should be removed from the situation. The abuser should want themselves removed from the situation: as Jesus taught, cut off an offending hand because it‘s better to be in Heaven with one hand than have two hands in Hell.
  16. God’s glory is Light & Truth: He has all of it. He wants all of us to have all of it too, but only if we sincerely desire it. Apparently this mortal flesh (which veils us from His and our own full Light) and its attendant darkness is a necessary step in preparing our consciousness to receive all Light and Truth.
  17. I should add that we are judged based on our “works” but more specifically on what we truly sought/intended; often our spirits are willing but our flesh is weak. In the world we get what we “deserve” or worked for: Law of the Harvest In God’s kingdom we get what we desire in our secret heart of hearts: Law of Intent (only God knows what that is for each of us). D&C 46:9 For verily I say unto you, [spiritual gifts] are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep all my commandments, and [they] that seeketh so to do… D&C 137:7-8 Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; 8 Also all that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom; D&C 6:8 Verily, verily, I say unto you, even as you desire of me so it shall be unto you… When physical illness prevented me from completing my full mission, the Spirit taught me to quote to myself an adaptation of King Benjamin’s words about focusing on our intent when there’s a discrepancy between desires and ability to do good: Mosiah 4:24 …I would that ye say in your hearts that: I [serve] not because I [cannot], but if I [could] I would [serve]. Because you and I lack God’s omniscience we can only observe behaviors and conclude what desires or true intent preceded the behaviors (Bishops and Stake Presidents have extra discernment of course if they’re living worthily). How wonderful to be judged by someone who knows what we *really* would have done and desired in every situation assuming our imperfect bodies hadn’t gotten in the way. That is why I love gobbling up the scriptures: doing so shapes and hones and polishes my heart’s true desires and intents to their fullest and brightest form. ☀️
  18. D&C 138:58-59 58 The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God, 59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation. There’s absolutely repentance after we die. But the above scripture points out that we receive a reward based on our “works,” and there is no scripture I’m aware of that says we can perform such “works” after death, hence the importance to be true to the Light we have each moment that we can in THIS life!
  19. To me it’s more likely He just loved them and immersed them in Light and they said, “More please!” And God said, “You got it.” And here we are. 😁☀️
  20. You’re confusing God’s kingdom with the people in it. Those articles point out that a Bishop urged the victim’s parents to let the Church handle it and not press charges. I’m not anti-Mormon, please sir, one can call a foul without saying the whole game is rigged, and you seem to be implying that leaders—even at the apostolic level—are perfect or don’t make mistakes or bad calls but I see nowhere in the scriptures where Christ says his servants are perfect. In fact the New Testament is full of examples of apostles making mistakes. That’s why sustaining is such a commitment, because it implies sometimes having to forgive a lack of wisdom or experience, etc. Just look at Paul and Peter’s arguing over preaching to Gentiles (Peter, I believe, was incorrect in that instance). Being part of God’s kingdom involves being part of a feedback loop, and I’m not saying hate the Church or anything silly, I’m just saying I disagree with how they’ve handled abuse cases in the past, specifically. I don’t care what the laws of man are and if they are somehow construed as forbidding a bishop from reporting child abuse unless the confessor agrees. Right is right, wrong is wrong, and abuse will continue unless it is reported and stopped. I’d rather report abuse and lose my calling as bishop than adhere to some silly law created by society if such laws exist (which according to my limited research seems to be the case in some States: https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2022/08/12/utah-gop-lawmaker-wants-require/ ). Obey, honor and sustain the laws of the land that are Constitutional, not every law a man can invent (see D&C 98:4-9). I believe our leaders as imperfect beings can be mistaken at times pertaining to policy (not doctrine), and I don’t think anyone with eyes and ears and a brain & the gift of the Holy Ghost who gives feedback is automatically anti-Mormon. 😎
  21. Yeah the whole thing “stinks” to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fact that he was the co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival (pretty important to the local economy, etc) had something to do with no arrest ever happening.
  22. This is shocking to me, I never looked up who directed the films, but while at BYU’s film school over 10 years ago I was accepted to a one-off workshop class run by that guy…wow, I thought he was cool at the time but I can’t get behind his sense of taste or style. The allegation/confession is just shocking to me personally (yes I believe in repentance but I also don’t think someone just does that once and never again…maybe…I really have a hard time with the Church m.o. seeming to be “keep it quiet” instead of letting parents press charges and get some counseling for the abuse victim who I’m sure continued to see his abuser at church…insane): https://kutv.com/amp/news/local/lds-temple-videos-director-sundance-co-founder-admits-to-child-molestation-says-website Guess he’s in jail now for a second (that we know of) instance of child molestation: https://www.sltrib.com/news/2019/07/09/child-sex-abuse-case-ends/ Insane to me.
  23. Yeah, I think America has been more of a salad bar than a melting pot, but I love salad bars! Having salad with just lettuce is boring to me. I think the woke crowd is just carrying too far the message that some voices haven’t been heard as much as others and a little balance would suit the choir well (that’s my compassionate take anyway).
  24. Hugh Nibley once said if you want to be happy, learn to love what God loves. What are God’s greatest treasures, that which is His glory and which He loves most? D&C 93:36 = Light and Truth Moses 1:39 = immortality and exaltation of His family (Loving-kindness, in other words). Once you understand what true treasure is (Light, Truth, Loving-kindness), religion is simply the story of the “richest” Being in the cosmos wanting to help us Receive His eternal treasures and Perceive what we possess. Wow.
