  1. This post may or may not have something related to my previously posted comment earlier today.

The SLC Church leadership are spoiled. Until just recently, if they wanted to go to the temple, it was just a phone call, electric cart ride and 10 minutes away. Now, they've got to run up to Bountiful or down to Jordan River (or maybe Draper) and it takes literally hours to do, beginning to end.

So I think in General Conference, on Sunday AM, they will dedicate a portion of the Conference Center as a temple. Probably the 'little theatre'.

    You're welcome.    🙂

  2. General Conference music  April 2020

Well my friends, for a long time I have been sharing what I know about the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (TCATS) music for General Conference. This April things are different.

First, TCATS will be performing both sessions of Saturday and both sessions of Sunday conference. We haven't done that in a good long time. Although I believe there is a good chance that this music may come pre-recorded, and not live.

Second, when the list of music for Conference was published, for the first time the list was accompanied with a request that we keep the list confidential, and not share it.

And when I saw a particular song listed for the Sunday AM conference session, well. I guess that's why. But I don't really know. I'm not sure, but I don't think we have sung that song in GC since 1893. hmmmm...

I debated for a week or so whether I could in good conscience share only the rest hymns, and honestly I don't see how that could possibly be a problem, but I have decided not to share anything. Sorry!

Carry on, and try not to miss Sunday morning conference.

BTW, the next 3 weeks of 'Music and the Spoken Word' will be pre-recorded.

HiJolly! It is great to see you again. Welcome back - where the hey/hay have you been???

Thanks! Life's been interesting, you know. This year in particular it's been busy.

The real reason I've been gone is just because I got tired of it all. Now I'm feeling a bit more up to it, so I'm back.

...and Pammy would've been sad if I hadn't posted the Conference music. :-)

It's a good question, and one that can generate some heated answers.

I don't know, and I have not studied all of the different theories about BoM geography. I do know that there are a few competing theories. (as I say, sometimes these discussions get heated among those who strongly believe in one theory over another). Nothing concrete to support any of them. I would venture to say that, the only locations from the BoM that we can definitively locate now:

    1) Jerusalem, where Lehi's family began their journey.

    2) Moroni called the Hill in upstate NY "Cumorah", where he buried the plates.

I question #2. Where did Moroni call the Hill in upstate NY "Cumorah"?

  11. Ok, now I have a favorite. It's 'Softly and Tenderly' by Will L. Thompson, arranged by Mack Wilberg.

    1. Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,

    Calling for you and for me;

See, on the portals He's waiting and watching,

Watching for you and for me.

    Chorus

    Come home, come home,

    Ye who are weary, come home;

    Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

    Calling, O sinner, come home.

    2. Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,

Pleading for you and for me?

Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,

Mercies for you and for me?

    Chorus

    3. O for the wonderful love He has promised,

Promised for you and for me!

Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,

Pardon for you and for me.

    Chorus

Come home, come home, come home!

  12. Hugh B. Brown said that if there is no doubt, then there is no thought. Which I agree with. I put together this set of quotes many years ago.

    The downside:
Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might
    win by fearing to attempt.
    -- William Shakespeare,
    Measure for Measure, Act 1

    The upside:
"To refuse to doubt, think about or question what you are told
is to miss an opportunity to talk to God"
    -- Father Leo Booth

    The annoying truth:
"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and
the intelligent are full of doubt."
    -- Bertrand Russell

    The uplifting truth:
"Living with ambiguity is a form of intellectual honesty, of
humility. It is only when we admit that we don't know that we
are receptive to what lessons may be taught. In some strange
way, it also brings an inner peace since we are no longer
fighting reality to maintain our inner fantasies on how things
should be. While I am characterizing it as an intellectual
process, it also has spiritual implications, since only an open
mind is capable of hearing God."
    -- Andy Piereder (on Eyring-L)
