One thing to keep in mind is the further you get from Utah, Arizona or Idaho, the less people stress over this stuff. as you can see, on this forum we cant even agree on what the church manuals tell us. Arguments are won here by whoever shouts out you are disobedient first. Kinda like calling someone  a racist in a political argument they are not winning.
The manual says it is not a pre-condition to participating in sacrament preparation or admin. That said, whoever mentioned (Bishop discretion) is correct. The bishop can add to the standard for a variety of reasons. In places like Utah or other extremely Mormon populated areas...they are very strict about it. Even though it is not a rule, it is the culture. Growing up, I never even owned any color of dress shirt other than white. My parents would have left me at home rather than darken the door of the chapel in anything but a white shirt. My father didn't even own any color of dress shirt other than white. Probably because he was transiting so much between work and church stuff it was easier.
Anyway- the comment about you not hearing about it because you are new is fairly correct. Also, you are on the east coast. There are like two Mormons there so no one wants to get anyone mad and not come back. Where I'm at entire wards can be as small a boundary as 1 square mile. If you don't show up, no one notices.
I usually wear white shirts. For a few years I wore dress shirts from an old job I had. Didn't want them to go to waste in my closet because they were not needed anymore. I did have one person say something to me about it and I told them to go buy me a white one and I would wear it if they cared so much. They never did.
Wear whatever color dress shirt you like- the book says white isn't mandatory. Temple is probably the only exception.

that's pretty funny. My platoon in Iraq used to get fired up before misisons playing all heavy metal....it makes you want to destroy stuff sometimes. Anyway was good to get them on the mood as if they needed help. They were surprised at this Mormon guy's choice when it was my turn to choose- always seek and destroy by Metallica.

He told him to go kill laban....in person. Maybe it is just me, but I'm thinking that is a bit different.  I'm sure for you guys it is exact the same because when you were 19 you had a better testimony. Mine sucked (no kidding) and a lot of it had to do with my experiences that I won't bore you with because you wouldn't even believe it if I told you..i will, but only if you want me to.

I wouldnt say the entire ward was awful and i had to scroll back to see if i ever said such a thing....and i didnt. My commentary on this is how as an lds culture, early return missionaries are not treated too well.  By everyone? No, but enough to leave a young impressionable kid with that belief. It is such a problem the general authorities have been addressing it. We already have a huge problem retaining honorably returned missionaries in the church after somehting like 10 yrs or so. With the early returns...I bet the retention rates of these guys are much worse.
It is a cultural thing and as a collective, lds people are extremely awkward when it comes to how to deal with some kiddo who came home early for any reason,  much less something negative. I suspect most people are awkward about stuff like that, but this is our problem, not society at large.
Prime example...kid comes home after only 4 months. He is in the main priesthood gathering prior to. Elders and HP breaking off on their own. Bishop gets up and let's him know we are all comitted to helping him get back out there. He just answered up...I'm not going back out. Bishop said we will still encourage you....anyway meeting moved on.
I actually really like that bishop, but that was about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He came home early because he hated it. That's what he told my son, not me. They are friends.
Anyway...that was a few years ago and Im no longer in that ward but am aware he never went back out.

No I didn't fight for it..you earn your badge just like everyone else. Police work is different than the civ world. This is a major police agency and the town doesnt shut down for the sabbath like utah and idaho for example. Unfortunately people murder, rape, molest, rob and beat family members on Sunday too. In fact it is one of our busiest days.  To opt out cuz of the Sabbath doesn't play well in a pd. Not to mention they would tell you to gtfo and dont let the door hit you in the backside. We make no accommodation for Sabbath desires. You only have a 10-12 hr shift so you can find time to worship if you want when you are not on the beat. Sure I could have put in for some admin day shift weekend off gig, but I'm a cop not an admin. If you want to be a cop then you are on the street...whenever they want you there.
Find a backbone...give me a break. Come here and apply...anywhere in the phx metro area. Plently of perps just waiting to make short work of you and your backbone.

I recently inherited 30 lbs of 30 plus year old wheat. Each can I have opened, I just made sure it sprouted. If it did, it was still good as new. If it didn't sprout, throw it away.
Every sample has sprouted so far.

Thank goodness for the bagpipes...just about every ward I have been  in sings like they are all on anti depressants....probably a bunch of them are trying to keep up with sister Smith and her perfect life I'm sure. We need a black choir to get things back to motivating.

Ok I'll play your game. Here is the whole quote:
Yes, every man, woman, and child—every young person and every little boy and girl—should serve a mission. This does not mean that they must serve abroad or even be formally called and set apart as full-time missionaries

It includes everyone. Unless you think everyone means all members except for 18 year old males.

My experience was of my family and bishop pretty much saying yea if you don't go you will pretty much be damaged goods. Those girls in the singles ward (these were a new thing back then) will not want to have anything to do with you. My family laid off of that one fairly quickly after I asked why my mom married my dad. He didn't go on a mission ....the bishop on the other hand. He constantly brought it up.
After getting out of the military, I didn't have much difficulty getting dates in the singles ward. I did have one girl cut a date short though once she found out I didn't go on a mission .  That was a fun drive back to her house. Ended up getting married in that ward.
Temple, kids, kids married and gone on missions....terrible the way everything turned out and we are even still married. Oh got my eagle too. Funny how that one all of a sudden turned into a nothing burger..eagle used to be the big indicator of your future success.
As for a stigma later.on in life...I can't say I have experienced that other than in discussions with people or on forums like this. I was actually called a "nominal mormon boy" by a member of this forum because I didn't serve a mission .  I like that one, kinda cute moniker.  I can say though that the informal raise your hand if you served a mission happens quite a bit. Interestingly nothing ever happens with the Information from the impromptu poll. I never understood why they do that, but it has happened in every ward I have been in. Doesn't really bug me other than it seems like a dumb survey to take without any follow up like....hey you back there that didn't go on a mission...what's your major malfunction...ha that would be pretty exciting.

Wish you were in my ward growing up. I got treated like the spawn of Satan for going in the army lol...
Of course there was no war going on back then so I was not  justified... now the fact there is a war it has now become an excuse not to serve in the military lol.

Moral issues aside, creating, possessing and or distributing video or pictures depicting a minor for sexual/arousal purposes is not only a felony..it is child porn at least in most states. Although rarely enforced, it will get a record created. BYU will love to see that on a school app in a couple years. Once a parent is aware of its existence, they are basically in possession of said child porn if it is not reported...should be a good time and the whole ward is gonna find out if the rs knows.
If anyone is surprised at this, standby. The girls are getting to be worse offenders than the boys. Mormon kids included. Anyone who let's their teenager have a smartphone just provided access to the highest quality and diversity of porn in history...quality as far as porn goes.
If she transmitted this video or pics....it's everywhere already.

On edit...That law cited above generally includes the minor creating their own porn....imagine that. You at 16, take a nude selfie and send it. Guilty of child porn. Even if you are the minor.

I don't hat gay people but I hate their agenda. That is what is destroying families as they should be and have effectively destroyed the bsa. Although I have my issues with scouts in regards to the half butt way we run the program in the church, i never hated the bsa. Now i do. They are in the the same category as planned parenthood in my book since they elected to accept the gay agenda.

I was in a ward where we had enough people to staff everything except we had tons who refused to do anything. I ended up with four callings. I hated it. It sucked and I learned to say no. Enjoy while it lasts.
