  1. Thank you! There are just so many books out there that I wasn't sure which ones were more "reliable" or informative for a newbie.
  2. I am wondering what the best books are for learning about Mormon History? I'm looking for information about the history of the mormon church, prophets, etc.
  3. Honestly i'm not sure. My mom is pretty open minded so I don't think she would have a problem. I've just been to so many churches that i'm worried they might think this is a phase or that i'm not serious about it. Should I just tell them "I'm interested in learning more about mormonism. I've found a church here. Can you drive me up there?" or something along those lines?
  4. I was doing some reading here and just thought of a question. What are the convenants that one agrees to before baptism? What is required of someone in order to be baptised and join the church? I understand that there is a one year period before you can get a temple recommendation but how does the baptism work? I'm not quite sure how to word what I am thinking. Basically, what "rules" does one agree to or need to have testimony to live before they can join? I am very new to all of this and am just trying to get as much information as I can.
  5. The last movie I watched was Phantom of the Opera with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler. I love this movie. The music is beautiful, the sets are amazing and the actors do a fabulous job.
  6. Hello! I am just learning about mormonism and have been reading the Book of Mormon and doing research on the LDS website and mormon.org. Based on what I have learned I really feel like this is the church for me. I feel like I have finally found what I have been looking for and that Heavenly Father has guided me to the faith. I found an LDS church in my town that I want to go to. The problem is that due to medical problems I am unable to drive. I have epilepsy and I don't get my license back until I have been seizure free for 6 months which is in July. How do I approach my parents about driving me to the church service? How do I talk to them about this? I have been on what I would call a spiritual journey for the past 2 years and have been to more churches with various faiths more times that I can count. None of them had what I was looking for. None of them felt right -- that is until I found Mormonism. I know I have a lot to learn but I have the undescribable pull and attraction towards Mormonism. Just based on what I have read so far in the Book of Mormon and learned of the websites I know in my heart that Mormonism is the religion for me. I spoke with some missionaries on the LDS website who were extremely helpful. I live with my parents (both to help my mom with her post-surgery care and because of current financial issues) and I don't think they would like missionaries coming over. I really want to attend the LDS church services to learn more and make friends but i'm not sure how to tell my parents. Does anyone have any advice they can give me?
  7. Thank you so much for all of the help! :)
  8. I didn't find the question in any of the posted threads but if I missed it somehow I apologize. I have a question in regards to tithing. I understand it is 10% of your income but how do you know how much you will pay per month? How can I determine how much I will pay? Do you pay each Sunday, each month or once a year? I haven't converted yet but I plan on doing so. This is just one issue that I was concerned about. What do I do if I cannot afford it?
  9. Hello! My name is Kara and I am very new to Mormonism. I have started reading the Book of Mormon and the D&C. I have also downloaded several manuals from the LDS website. I have been praying to Heavenly Father asking him to guide me and lead me to the true faith and here I am! I connect with everything I am reading and I truly believe that I will convert. I found an LDS church in my town and plan on going as soon as I can. I feel so blessed and look forward to learning as much as I can. I can only imagine how my life will change after I convert.
