  1. Well I am yet to see a headline Mormon church sends aid to starving children round the world
  2. Oculas awesome horror and good ending. Currently watching But I'mm a cheer leader which is a satirical look at gay conversion camps in the US it is helrious
  3. Nice black and white thinking there people are not good or evil, everyone is a mixture. I hope it takes off and they are subsidised but the multi million church who gets their service for free for 2 years.
  4. Thanks for the education. Anyway it isn't really the point it is an expense essential or not that the missionaries don't need on top of everything. Moving on from the cost. I can imagine these being misused the temptation will be great especially when the missionary is home sick and low to just pop on facebook or face timme. Also it would be very easy for them to be taken places where the missionary can be alone. Not saying they shouldn't have them just how will things like these be monitored. Also missionaries visiting poorer countries walking about with high end gadgets might as well put a beacon out for theievs
  5. Or the church could just provide mission presidents with the cash to buy the tablets they will get a discount on multi buts and they lend them to the missionaries and charge for missuse or careless damage You're all speaking as 'rich' westerners only $200 is a massive amount for a poor family. No they haven't but the expectation will probably be there.
  6. Another $400 on top of the costs of a mission, doesn't seem very fair on poor families to me. The church could easily cover the cost of these or choose a cheaper tablet
  7. OK well you have competition for the greatest country in the world from: Norway Denmark, France, the UK, Germany, sweeden, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Spain, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechinstien, Luxemborg, Monoco, the Netherlands, Philippines. All have freedom I am sure their are more but I left of countries that I wasn't sure of or had dodgy pasts/current stuff going on All these countries have freedom, most take care of their vulnerable members and don't fight for the right to have deadly weapons that their children shoot each other with, unlike America. GO USA!
  8. There are many countries who have freedom, doesn't make them the greatest country on the planet.
  9. One of the greatest countries on earth? The country who's citizens are obsessed with their right to have guns, the country whos children shoot each other in schools, has a massive gang problem, will invade any country they can pin the terrorist label on, the country who funds Israeli terrorists. The US claims to be an equal country yet college education is so expensive it is inaccessible by the poorest, where people have to que for days to get access to a free volunteer doctors clinic, the largest per cent of children living below the poverty line in the west. The fact religion and politics are to connected, the obsession with power and belongings. The igronace and arrogance, as demonstrated in this thread by the op, that the American way is the right/best way I have absolutely no idea what could make America county one of the greatest on the planet
  10. O well I am sure my shoulder can bear the brunt of an Americans offence. What do you think is good about American culture? I am willing to bet I can think of far more that is wrong with it
  11. I didn't know a mission was about passing on American/Utah culture. In fact I hope it isn't because there is very little of American culture I think is worth passing on.
  12. I would just do a lesson on women and the priesthood let her get everything off her chest
  13. Come on the organge men is what I am shouting to the announce of my husband. He is supporting the Netherlands I think he objects to the kit comments. Last night we were watching 1-0 go to put my son to bed and it was 5-0 ! I thought it was a joke!
  14. I can see where people are coming from I should have just said o I like it or what ever but I thought giving some background would help people understand but that was just being niave I guess. I think also I am still suffering with anxiety after the post natel depression, it makes me feel like my decisions aren't good enough. But when I think about it I am there to swim with my boy should have just said o I just like it and got on with our swim.
  15. Yeah I can see they were only trying to help and I am impressed that a person would be christlike and stick their neck out to help. I just get a bit defensive of my family
  16. I went to mother and baby swimming this morning, my husband and I have agreed that we will both be modest when in swim wear. He wears long swim shorts and a surfer type top and I normally tankine bottom and the same as my husband on top, but in nicer colours. The other women at the group wear bikinis etc and that is fine and their choice, though I think it is a bit wrong that baby girls are in bikinis but not my business. The other mothers stare at me and eventually one asks me why I dress the way I do to swim and explain that within my church there is an expectation to be modest and this is what my husband and I have decided on. Then the usual comments that I am oppressed under the thumb etc I just shrugged it off and explained that we are equal in my marriage. But it got to the point I felt uncomfortable so I left the pools. One of the women followed me and handed me a card for DOMESTIC ABUSE. Saying I don't have to put that up with such controlling behaviour. I was so angry that she would imply my kind gentle loving husband could be an abser. I was shaking with rage I dried Odin off and ran out of there still in my swimming stuff. Any advice how I can handle things like this better in the future? Has any one else had such experiences around non members? I admit I am a bit over emotional as I had post natal depression and this has really bashed my confidence going out with my son. Should I just wear the bikini and fit in? Odin loves the pool and water so I do not want to stop going
  17. I spoke to my husband about it just now and after laughing and calling me hormonal wreck. Pointed out what is better him going on a mission or going to university at the impressionable age and being surrounded by young people who are getting blind drunk and doing other dangerious things.
  18. I did wonder if she was just saying to be controversial. We had one like this who would say the most contentious things to just get a raise. I got to admit I did find it amusing at times. Untill she said in a lesson on faith I believe "So what about the curse of Cain has heavenly father and the church rejected them? I lost my temper and just said yep GOD, THE CHURCH AND WE ARE ALL MASSIVE RACISISTS SO I WOULD LEAVE I WERE YOU. I am not proud but gets to the point where a joke has just gone to far. Like the time I looked down at my son and he was chewing on a clothes peg to find out that members were finding random pegs on them and around the area in sacrament meeting because one of the young men had decided 'pegging' people in sacrament was hilarious, it wasn't.
  19. Are their doughnuts? We get nice seats I'd swap to be honest
  20. I can see what you mean Prophet. I don't believe in aliens if heavenly father came down and said dude I command you to believe in aliens then I would try my very hardest but I am not sure I would with a true heart say yes father I believe
  21. And he's only the grand old age of 18 months. Every month I transfer the mission savings to his bank account I want to cry. I know this is pathetic and if he is called to serve it is an honour but the idea of my sweet innocent little boy being sent to any old place to talk to people that can be so cruel about the church breakes my heart. How do people get their head round sending their children off on missions?
  22. She wasn't born in the convenant as her mother was not at the time a member. I trust Heavenly Father that she will get her rightful place in his kingdom
  23. Applogies I am behind on my LDS news she was only having disciplinary action last time I checked. Which answers the defensive question, nope don't care for the woman myself and wouldn't want the priesthood if it came with endless doughnuts. The only part of the priesthood I am slightly envious of is the fact my husband got to bless our son and will get to baptise him. But I got to carry him and be go to parent so not a big issue. I don't think lessons should be turned into debates but experiences should be encouraged but I rarely teach so may be that would change my opinion if I did My name stands for Ormskil Warriors for life, it is my husbands Viking re-enactment group and I stupidly left him to name me while I went off to do something.
  24. Preplanning who can ask questions? Wow inclusive. If we are to believe the woman really just blurted that out while the lesson happened a quick that isn't appropriate thank you. BTW Kate wasn't excommunicated
  25. Why is her point any lesser than yours? Perhaps your opinion would have irritated her. I have never been one for sitting in a room being droned at like I am or the subject matter is a robot or mundane subject. Lessons are best when a range of opinions and thoughts are shared
