  1. umm...what is wrong with Rush? (the band that is)
  2. Go for something mixed with your water to avoid hyponatremia if you going to be doing activity for a long time
  3. You don't have to be carrying anything to have a hard time breathing at that altitude. I had a hard time going up the 14ers in CO with only 20lbs in 2300ci daypack, and I'm in really good shape. I read a book a while back by one of the first to summit everest without oxygen, and he said the get an idea of breathing at the summit pinch you nose shut and shove a handful of cotton balls in your mouth.
  4. My 72 hr kit strangely resembles my backpacking gear...heh..
  5. I think 95% of what's on TV any more is absolute trash.:( If it wasn't for watching the Penguins play I probably wouldn't have a TV. Though I think one of my favorite bands (Daugherty) came from someone on AI?
  6. Friends and I hiked several 14'ers when I was with my dad, when he was stationed at Ft Carson CO (Colorado springs). It was also about this time I took up track in high school. During any kind of strenuous physical activity the altitude will get to you at first, depending on where are coming from. The thing that kinda sucks though, is if your on vacation by the time you become acclimated you will be going home. Just remember when your sucking air that Mt Everest (8800m) has been climbed many times without supplemental oxygen.
  7. Heat won't effect it as far as I know. The second time I was in Iraq they delivered and stored the bottled water we got on open trucks in similar tempatures. Also if you live fairly near a natural water source, you might want to look into a filter for longer term water use. I have a MSR Sweetwater I use for hiking/backpacking that works really well. Just be sure to get one with a ceramic element, not a paper one so you can just clean it instead of replacing it. I've had my MSR for about 3 years and have probably put hundred of gallons through it, all you have to do is take the element out and swish it around in the water and brush it off some and it works just like new.
  8. Since HAVA of 02 where do they have paper ballots? Except for when there is problems with the machines (like in southern Cali today), which is very rare.
  9. No..no.. You canuks just keep sending your best down here to Pittsburgh. You know...guys with names like Sidney and Mario:D:D
  10. Nice.. I've been there many times. My reserve unit does a lot of training at Ft Indiantown Gap just north of you, and I have relatives that live in Carlisle (think I spelled that right). I'm from Johnstown (you know the place that flooded three times), but I'm going to school in Pittsburgh right now. I transfered here to Carnegie-Mellon from Penn State when I changed my major.
  11. Its alex jones. He makes all sorts of movies that sound like what you saw.
  12. Was this guy in these videos by any chance?
  13. I've only had one encounter with an LEO (as we call them), and it almost got me shot.. I was visiting a relative in another part of the state and a state cop mistook my GPS for a gun. Strange thing though was I did have a handgun on me though. I always take my Glock 20 when I go in the woods. I have a CCP so after checking the serial on it and checking my CCP he let me go. It turns out the area I was in is about 2 miles from a state prison, and someone had just escaped from their the day before.
  14. As I expected more drivel about his ridiculous "economic stimulus package".
  15. Has he ever been called on "suspicious activity" for people geocaching. We are on odd bunch after all poking around in the bushes..
  16. Should I have to report a moderator though?? Should they not be setting the standard for us regular users to follow?
  17. That is just nonsense. I'm in good shape because I work at it, watch what I eat, go to gym every few days, do yoga, and run at least 30 miles a week. I have no shame in that. You don't need to eat healthy 100% of the time when you do those things, you just need to ensure that you eat right most of the time. Its not luck, its a result of conscious decisions I make about how I want to care for my own body. For you to dismiss it as mere luck and somehow winning the genetic lottery only serves to demoralize and discourage others from doing those things with will lead them to a more healthy lifesytle, because they will feel they can't get better because they are not genetically able to, which is complete and utter bunk for the vast vast majority of people.
  18. Depends on how you cache. I do a lot of way back woods long distance hiking caches. For those the Earthmate I think is the best, because it has the most detailed maps on the unit. For more normal short hike or urban caching I would get a Garmin Vista Hcx. It has less detailed maps but they are a bit easier to use for importing geocaching data. Also the Vista Hcx can do car routing (with the right software), while the Earthmate can do routing it does a pretty poor job of it. Garmin just came out with a new handheld unit (the Colorado) but it has some major firmware issues right now, so I would hold off on that one for now. Though when it does get fixed it will be an amazing unit for Geocaching. You can export caches directly to the unit from the website. Not just the coords but the Colorado also has a section for storing and displaying cache page information right on the unit.
  19. Umm...Ron Paul is running for president, is he not? I know he has basically no chance, but he is still on the ballot nonetheless. So according to my understanding of the board's rules you shouldn't be posting that. But then again you are the moderator, so maybe you know better then I. As to the OP: I'm know how much faith I would put on Saddam to tell the truth, he does have a legacy to defend in his illusions of grandeur.
  20. I have white space on both my 13'' laptop display (set at 1280x800) leaves about 2 inches of space per side, and the 22'' monitor (set at 1680x1050) I use when my laptop is hooked into its docking station, leave about 4 inches of white per side.
  21. Was it called Marinol? For probably a good 95ish percent of the population its as simple as expending more calories in a day then you take in to loose weight. When you consider though that you'd have to run over 2 hours at a good speed to expend the calories in one big mac you can see where this is going.
  22. oh yes..doh...I haven't messed with my own profile in so long I forgot about that msg.. Will do.. PS - I could also fit you in with some those other things too if you wanna come. When wake up tomorrow will be using the Forerunner for my morning run (I have a 4.5 mile route already loaded into it, will be running at 6.5 min/mile pace..so you better keep up!!). Then after doing some family errands in the morning (read: help dad split firewood /groan), we will be going on a short 8.6 mile (one way) hike up Mt Davis (2nd highest point in PA). Its only an elevation gain of a little over 2200ft from start to summit, so you should be fine. Then after a brief lunch at the top we will come back down. Wanna come?
