AussieMatt's Achievements

  1. I believe in democratic socialism. I am unsure how anyone could look at the example Jesus set and then say they're all for pure and unregulated capitalism of greed. I am not a communist, as I believe in a free market. But am realistic enough to know that market should be left to its own devices without even a gram of regulation or supervision. Nor do I believe the government should have all the power. I believe in a sensible middle ground.
  2. I'm not married (I wish I was), but I have always been told and heard that love actually takes a lot of work. It doesn't just happen. People can actually learn to love just about anyone (as long as there is no abuse involved) if they work at it. Have you both worked for the love? Have you both worked to make the marriage actually work?
  3. I am 31 years old, single and seem to not be able to find someone to marry. Is it a case of trying harder, or, should I simply wait for the Lord to bless me with a wife?
  4. While not exactly new, I was reading an article on the Salt Lake Tribune website about an essay which was published last year (2014) about the Book of Abraham and how the church believes it to be 'inspired' scripture and perhaps not a direct translation of the Egyptian papyrus scrolls. The essay can be viewed on the LDS Church website here: https://www.lds.org/topics/translation-and-historicity-of-the-book-of-abraham?lang=eng&query=scholar The article I read on the matter within the Salt Lake Tribute can be accessed from this link: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/58162708-78/book-abraham-translation-says.html.csp What are your thoughts on the Pearl of Great Price and more specifically the Book of Abraham?
  5. I am an inactive member at the moment, but am working on becoming active. However, when I was active, I always believed that the prophet was just a human who had been called. Of course he is fallible, just like any other human being. However, we all have a responsibility to pray about the things we hear, whether they come from the prophet through to what we hear through talks at our Sabbath meetings. We must pray, we must receive confirmation from the Holy Ghost. This should not be considered disrespectful, because the scriptures tell us to pray always. I have never heard the prophet speak out of line, and I am thankful for the confirmation that the Holy Ghost brings.
  6. Hi everyone, My name is Matt and I am from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. I was baptized as a member of the church when I was 15 (that was 16 years ago), and I was quite active in the church for years. A few years ago I have become inactive, mainly due to study and also work. However, I have realized that those are just excuses, and I became inactive due to the oil in my own spiritual lamp running low. I am going to try and reactivate myself, which I understand will be a process in itself. I will need to fill my lamp back up with metaphorical oil.
