  1. Priesthoodpower I am no Praeger fan. I can't stand the guy. He said something years ago that still rankles with me. Anyway, I have to agree that he has said it true in that video. Anatess2 If there is one thing that rankles me about modesty it is men with no shirt on anywhere where they can be seen by other humans. I think it is lewd, obscene, immoral, offensive, and outrageous. And should be avoided. dc
  2. Nonagenarian is good. I'll be glad to have him there armed. If he can't shoot straight maybe he'll lend me his gun. Isn't your husband a carrier? Don't put all your eggs in one basket. What if your dearly loved is the first one taken out by the bad guy? There are folks who say the problem is there are too many guns out there. No, the problem is there are not enough guns out there. In Orlando it was a gun that stopped the shooter but only after hours and hours of killing. If there were more guns there in the right hands he could have been stopped after one killing. dc So I stand by what I said. EVERYBODY. Including the seeing eye dog. (If we had one.) I'd like to see two revolvers in holsters on his guide pack. That way we'd be ready for any occurrence.
  3. Exactly what I'm thinking. Any one of those people might just surprise you, rise to the occasion with unforeseen strength and acumen and save your life (my life) unexpectedly. I'd be grateful. dc
  4. Who said the gun range is a controlled environment? It is? Usually it's a shooting gallery. With a whole lot of unbelievable noise. dc
  5. And you think any of them would come in a totin' a gun? I don't think so. Could they even get a permit? I doubt it. But again, like I say, better one of them than a psycho anti Mormon. dc
  6. I'd rather take my chances on them rather than no one but the bad guy. dc
  7. Well I guess then in your case I'd have to say I would want you carrying a gun in my ward if you were and felt yourself to be capable of it. And it sounds like your judgment is good and you know your limitations. I'd feel safe with you there armed RATHER THAN NO ONE BUT A BAD GUY. dc
  8. What kind of wards are you guys in? I'm still thinking. I still can't rule out anyone. dc I'm comparing to the gun range and at the range not only does EVERYONE have a gun, including the kids (who, of course are being very adequately supervised by adults) but they all have MORE THAN ONE EACH. It has never bothered me.
  9. I'm thinking. I can't really think of anyone. Let me think a little more. Maybe I'm just in a good ward. Of course, in reality, never would EVERYONE carry. Only those who wanted to. And who felt they were responsible enough to, and in my ward I would certainly feel fine with that. I go to the gun range and we have a large crowd up to 50 or so and I've never felt bad with any of them. Of course that's a semi private group. dc
  10. I'd feel safer in church if I knew EVERYBODY there was carrying a gun. That way a bad guy wouldn't stand a chance at getting me. People who are afraid of guns are like people afraid of the dark. An irrational and uneducated fear. Get a gun and get some training and get out to the gun range, learn something about reality, and you not only will not fear guns you will understand from your own knowledge why you then feel safer with your brethren armed. Gun control means you want a good guy to be in control of a gun at any time, and not a bad guy. As to the recent shooting in Florida, does anybody know what it was that stopped the shooter? What was it that stopped the shooter? Was it going out and passing more laws, then more laws, then more laws? No? What was it? Oh, lo and behold ... A GUN!? If it wasn't for the gun I suppose the guy would still be over there shooting people while the geniuses kept meeting and meeting and meeting to determine what to do about him. dc
  11. Beer money. You could have at least said 'you need money to move to Utah'. No, it's because I think tv is garbage. I even got tired of watching the hunting shows and the gun shows, and the gun commercials. dc
  12. I just put my tv and vhs and dvd player up for sale. I haven't turned them on in over a year. And even before that I hardly ever watched. Can any of you guess why? dc
  13. See, now that right there makes me wonder if you ever handled a gun in your life. Because I know a lot of people who own a lot of guns, and frequently buy and sell them, and go to gun ranges in many locations and shoot and handle guns, and reload, and work on guns, and I don't know of any instance where they think that. Nor did I. And I guess all their guns were defective, cause I don't think any of them ever shot anybody with their guns, except for a few of the cops. And most of the gun owners I know are not cops. dc
  14. The gun is a tool in a crime. Chasing the tool is a wild goose chase. A fool's errand. Imagine yourself as Dick Tracy on a burglary case. Going after the screwdriver used to pry open the door. There you are. dc
  15. Well, there is your problem. LEGISLATION DOES NOT, CANNOT AND WILL NOT STOP THESE THINGS. California, Chicago and many other places have laws up and down the pine tree, and yet, you have drawn the real conclusion. "We" can never stop this. The legislation does not stop it. Maybe, let me suggest to you that it could be stopped WITHOUT legislation beyond what is on the books today IF THE LAW WAS ENFORCED. California has undertaken a serious program of releasing violent offenders from prison. On a wholesale basis. Guess who commits the crimes. Why is it that people like you believe you have the solution to every ill in the world in your pocket? You don't. Your very own William "Slick Willie" Clinton has stated that one of his greatest political errors was ... the ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN OF 1994! Why!? It lost him a great many political allies in the government AND ... IT HAD NO EFFECT ON CRIME. He understands that. Why can't you? Your very own Gerald "Jerry, Governor Guru" Brown stated some years ago, after a casino extortion bombing "we don't need any more laws. What we need to do is enforce the laws we have". Of course you will never find that anywhere in the media. Why not? Because the agenda does not call for truth. In Orlando, the shooter UNDERWENT AND PASSED A BACKGROUND CHECK. What's your brilliant idea? Two background checks? At some point in time you have to put your feet back on the ground and accept reality. The gun didn't commit the crime. dc
  16. There is no such thing as gun violence. It's amazing that you would even use the term "common sense". Apparently you know nothing about guns, and have never shot or perhaps even touched one, yet all of a sudden you are an expert. It's more than your lack of knowledge of God that you have here. What you saw was people violence. Religious fanatic violence. Terrorist violence. Islamic violence. No gun ever did any violence. UNLESS someone was in control of it and used it for their purposes. It's a fools errand to look at the instrument used, rather than who and why violence was done. It's like calling a drunk driver (dui) hit and run killer ... car violence. Would you call that car violence? No? Well then you see how idiotic it is to call this ... gun violence. Would you call a stabbing knife violence? No? The tail doesn't wag the dog. The gun doesn't do anything. And the NRA follows it's members, not leads them. dc
  17. carlimac It isn't "homophobia". It's homo hatred. Islams believe that homo ism is a sin punishable by death. dc
  18. They were just trying to help. And were concerned about you. Would you rather, as sometimes happens, they paid no attention to you, they didn't even notice you were gone, and then they all drifted off to the next venue without you? It's always difficult to get the right amount of involvement, or non involvement. dc
  19. My first off the top of the head is the Temple. You can get answers at the Temple. For some questions. But I also have to wonder what your questions are. You know, God is a mystery. We do not have the capacity to ever "understand" or "know" all the answers. My experience has shown that the best thing I can do in going to the Temple is just go. And experience. Rather than try to intellectualize it. Yesterday at the Temple they didn't know two answers. To my mundane questions. What were two large urns for? I theorized 'decoration'. They couldn't disagree. Had they redecorated the Celestial room since the Temple was built in 1954? They didn't know, but didn't think it had been. Most of the other questions are answered in the Endowment ceremony. But it's different for everyone. Everyone gets something different out of it. Coming out of the Manti Temple, I was asked "what did you learn?" I learned how little I know. dc
  20. Am I wrong to think this could be avoided by simply rotating and using storage stock? dc
  21. Well, they take the female children to the bathroom, don't they? The men take the male children, usually, from what I have seen. dc
  22. True the church is not a social club. But yes we are there to fellowship. And that's an important part of it. dc
  23. I don't know how this could have got onto the topic of bathroom cleaning but it sure has. I had seen a thread on another forum debating who had the worse restrooms in terms of dirt and cleaning up and hands down, it was determined that the women's was the worst. However, Eowyn is correct, there are many men who make a huge mess all over the floor. But, some of the stories I have heard about cleaning the women's room would make you sick. I do remember one such story that took place in an office building. You would not want to hear the story as to what may have gone on in there. The debate was carried on by a number of people who identified their previous work which included restrooms at various types of business. Now I can't speak for the church, but the women's were the worst, by description and those with experience at the task. dc
