  1. Hi Mum, I agree with Lehi on both points. Be patient and trust that if the Spirit is telling you 2 spirits will join your family, then simply continue to live your life in a way that you are worthy and ready for that time when it comes, in whatever "form" that it comes. Two more spirits coming to you may not involve you or your husband physically in any way. I am reminded of a family in our ward with 5 kids. The father of the family sister died unexpectedly and the biological father didn't want the children any more. My friend ended up adopting their 6 nieces and nephews and now they have 11 kids all in the space of 10 months or so. What does Heavenly Father have in store for you, I have no clue, but like Lehi said, "be strong and of a good courage" and trust things will be as they should. As far as what the Church says, Handbook 2: 21.4.7 In Vitro Fertilization The Church strongly discourages in vitro fertilization using semen from anyone but the husband or an egg from anyone but the wife. However, this is a personal matter that ultimately must be left to the judgment of the husband and wife. Responsibility for the decision rests solely upon them. 21.4.13 Sperm Donation The Church strongly discourages the donation of sperm. 21.4.16 Surrogate Motherhood The Church strongly discourages surrogate motherhood.
  2. You two make me laugh... in a depressing kind of way...
  3. Thanks for taking the time to answer things Steve, now I know where you stand.
  4. My kids want to know if this is "under the sea"? Free "like" to anyone who gets this right, even programmers are eligible.
  5. What do you have in it's place now? Gum, taped on dice?
  6. My keyboard is covered in nasty dust, I can tell which keys get used and which ones don't. Apparently I don't like: ],{, Num Lock, Page up, Page down, or F1-F12 Rock on letters A-Z!!
  7. Laying on my deathbed right now, this topic is super relevant to me. I have just enough time to change my m..i..n.........
  8. Thank you Steve for the clarification on this. Speaking solely for myself, this helps me understand where you are coming from... I believe. I have always thought you wanted to hear the "real" doctrine of the LDS church, hence why you can to this more "orthodox" forum. My hold up has been... does Steve want to learn about us: 1. in an approach to be more knowledgeable and simply learn accurate information vs. biased information? OR 2. in an approach to be more knowledgeable and simply learn accurate information (net result) so that he can better formulate "apologetic" (using that word as: reasoned arguments) answers against LDS members in your own Evangelical ministering. As always, thanks for your answers thus far.
  9. Sorry, it appears that our last responses were posted at the same time, but if I understand you correctly, it will be the "visual" awesomeness of his return that would convince you, correct?
  10. This is kind of my point. Believing in the LDS Church is a distant secondary concern to the fact that you don't believe in Christ or God. So if you don't believe in the divinity of Christ, why does it matter what he has to say on any subject? Plenty of people saw Christ in real life, saw his "power" and then turned around and either ignored/mocked/dismissed him, so... what is the difference? Why would you suddenly believe that Christ is the Son of God if you saw him in person? What would affirm to you that he was a God and that you should listen/believe in what he was saying? The visual? Again, I ask these questions with the best of intentions GL, nothing more.
  11. I don't think you are suggesting, seeing = believing Carb
  12. @Godless This isn't meant to sound critical in any way, it is simply a personal observation. If you don't believe in God or the divinity of Jesus as an atheist, why would it matter what he came and told you at the second coming? Why would Jesus have more credibility to vouch for the Church or Joseph Smith then than he already does now? The more I read your posts GL, the more I believe you are not really an Atheist at heart despite what you might try to convince yourself of. This situation reminds me of a story in the Book of Mormon. As Korihor was approaching the end of his life, and despite his efforts to convince himself and others there was no God, he finally concedes the truth inside himself, "and I always knew that there was a God". Again, only my personal observation as an outsider looking in wishing you the best.
  13. Thank you for your answers thus far Steve. Can I ask what your definition of "apologetic approaches to Mormonism" means? What purpose is gained by understanding these varying approaches more, how does this serve you better? What is the end purpose of learning how to apply apologetic approaches to Mormonism? Thanks again
  14. "He raps to rattle the “stereotype” of what a Mormon is, and to open up an opportunity for teaching." Thanks for sharing this Pam.
  15. Hi @Steve Noel , Because there are varying views as to your motives here on the forum, I figured it would be best to hear it from your personally. So Steve, what are you looking to do on this forum? I realize anyone and everyone is welcome to be here and ask questions, LDS member or not, so this is not a issue of "you shouldn't be here". I am happy to have you here, but it would be refreshing to hear your honest reason as to what you hope to accomplish. Are you here to personally learn and pray to Heavenly Father to see if the church is true for yourself? Are you here to "witness" to us in the hopes we will change our ways? Are you simply learning about the LDS faith? If so, to what end/purpose? You mentioned you are on at least 2 LDS forums asking the same questions in both. So I figured it would be great to hear your honest answer, so that I personally know how to take/view your posts in the future. Thanks in advance.
  16. @Carborendum The Psych guy psyched you out, it is him...didn't you know?
  17. Hi Axxx, 1. You are not the first, you won't be the last... it happens sometimes. It is not a requirement of life's journey, but it does happen. 2. One falsehood that the Adversary tries to instill in us is that "we are alone", "no one will ever understand us", "our situation is unique"... this is flat out false. You would be surprised what some of us have gone through on here before. 3. My two cents... anti-mormons are those people who were "unsuccessful" in finding the answers they needed or "unsuccessful" in simply holding to the iron rod. I would suggest turning to faithful members who had your similar doubts, BUT despite those doubts, found the answers they needed and remained solid in the faith. 4. WONDERFUL for you! Sometimes all you can do is muster a step here or there. After a while those single steps turn into walking again, and so forth. Hang in there... you are not alone!!
  18. Come on ladies, how old are you, teenagers?? This is your hunky captain?
  19. Here is a response given by askgramps.org http://askgramps.org/long-disciplinary-actions-stay-church-record/ "While church discipline is designed to help an individual repent, it is also in place “to protect the innocent, and safeguard the Church’s purity, integrity, and good name.” Certain sins that can directly harm a local ward, including members (such as embezzlement or predatory conduct), receive a permanent annotation that remains even after blessings are reinstated. This annotation is automatically permanent unless the First Presidency of the Church authorizes its removal. As a result of this permanent annotation, certain potential callings may no longer be available to specific individuals in the future, for example: Primary, Boy Scouts, Finance Clerk, Bishop, etc."
  20. You know the best part of that whole story? You did your home teaching! Great job! A home teacher in jeans is 100% more effective than a brother in a suit that never goes.
  21. I just about spewed my lunch all over my monitor from laughing... thanks!
  22. Just curious... There are from time to time, TV shows/movies that portray things/stereotypes/inaccuracies about members of the church. How do you feel about the actors/producers/directors of such "negative" shows? Just doing their "acting" job? Indifferent? Do you see them as neutral parties? Is an actor considered less invested than the actual producer? Admittedly I don't keep up on a lot of shows, but I was aware of a "Mormon Polygamy" show from a couple years ago. I just found out that one of the actors I liked was the Executive Producer of the show, Tom Hanks. Admittedly, right or wrong I no longer hold him in such high esteem. Your thoughts?
  23. Meg - Very proud of you for jumping on the situation and actually taking action, great job! If you take the "glass is half full" approach, 7 months of him being gone might be a blessing from Heavenly Father instead. That is 7 months of you learning, preparing, growing, communicating with Heavenly Father and being truly ready for his return. He might be very well surprised to return to a totally different woman, one who is now "firmly ready" to face him and has already prepared herself for multiple possible outcomes, even the bad ones. Hang in there, we are here to lend an ear! Needle
