  1. Piggy backing on JAGs thought... When I taught GD (also), I would do the same thing. I would send out emails to the class asking for specific items. I taught a class to about 100-120 each week. I used a projector and pull open screen, both from the library. The last year I taught was D&C so there were several core themes: Missionary work, celestial marriage, temples, etc. In the email I would ask members to submit photos of "themselves" to share during class the coming week. If the subject was missionary work, I would spend a couple minutes sharing the 15-20 submitted pictures of members on their actual missions. This worked for a variety of lessons to engage members and give everyone a glimpse into others lives and it was fun to guess as you looked at everyone's old pictures. The spirit is key to a successful lesson, BUT you need to have an audience who is engaged to hear the lesson to feel the spirit. An audience who is 60% asleep is most likely going to have a hard time feeling the spirit anyways.
  2. Well it appears I need to find some other trivia that is harder. Correct again! "Often ignored in LDS history is the fate of the stone box in which the golden plates were deposited on Hill Cumorah and to which Joseph was led in 1827. Once the plates were removed, neither the prophet nor anyone else appeared interested in the fate of the stone box itself. Almost fifty years later David Whitmer was interviewed by a Chicago Times reporter who wrote that "three times has he [Whitmer] been at the hill Cumorah and seen the casket (box) that contained the tablets and the seer-stone. Eventually the casket had been washed down to the foot of the hill, but it was to be seen when he last visited the historic place." JAG's post would add even additional info on the stones being removed as of 1893. We need Carborendum back with his play on words trivia.
  3. Okay, one more. Don't want to give my source yet, in case someone cheats... What ever became of the stone box that held the golden plates? Could you travel to Hill Cumorah and find it today?
  4. Winners! Winners! Turkey Dinners! (no leftovers from the Chicken dinner, sorry) "Some of the earliest revelations received by Joseph were directed at specific individuals in the Church. During the winter of 1831-32, secular newspapers in Ohio, after acquiring some of the revelations, began ridiculing Church leaders whose names were mentioned. To lessen embarrassment to his officers, Joseph began in March 1832 to identify certain individuals in revelations by code names. Joseph himself became "Enoch". He gave such names as "Ahashdah" to Newel Whitney and "Pelegoram" to Sidney Rigdon. Years later the real names were added in parentheses and the 1981 edition of the D&C no longer listed the names at all."
  5. Okay, not temple trivia, but... In early church history, what do the names Enoch, Ahashbah and Pelegoram all have in common with each other?
  6. Me too. More please. I promise not to cheat next time either.
  7. Is it okay to cheat...sometimes? "The Ogden Utah Temple was the first temple dedicated in the state of Utah; the four previous temples were dedicated in Utah Territory over 78 years earlier."
  8. Sorry for the duplicate thread today, please feel free to delete it... my bad. Glad this not just an issue on my end.
  9. Just today I was being locked out of lds.net. Got some "server issues" error. Then got some weird "all users must reset their passwords as of Jan 21" message. Reset my password. That didn't let me log in. Logged in under my old password and here I am now?? Banner images across the top of my browser are all missing. It appears I'm in some kind of 95% twilight zone accurate version of the site. Help. Is this an issue on my end or is there some kind of change/login/password reset issues on the site's end? Thank you!
  10. Sometimes the counselor you "get" (location wise) isn't a perfect fit for you, perhaps a different one would work out better. You are not limited to just the one or having to travel hours away. While not in person, there are LDS Fam. Service Counselors who can meet with you via the internet: Skype, etc. Also, suppose Skype sessions didn't work for a moment (pretend)... Is working on/saving your marriage worth driving several hours away? I would hope so. Make a trip of it. See some sights, go on a date with your wife while you are there and go to an extra long session with your new counselor. People drive for sports, camping, events... surely working on your marriage would be a top priority? Finding a counselor you enjoy/trust will be vital to you even caring about what they have to say in the first place. I would never avoid a counselor because they gave you advice you found hard or difficult to swallow. If you (myself included) had all the answers, you wouldn't be at a counselor's office in the first place. You are not looking for someone who simply agrees with you on all points. I'm not taking sides on this subject, you vs. the counselor, just saying there are alternatives. If this were me, I would be asking myself, "How bad do I want to work on/save my marriage" and then act like I better jump through hoops to get it done.
  11. Here is a contradiction for you. Since "you" wonder what it sounds like to speak evil of someone, here "you" are on another forum: "Remember: are you on our side or not? If you are, get back in line, know your place! If you are not, you are a poor, deluded damnable fool who simply cannot see our greatness and glory!" You can pretend to be concerned for our souls, but in reality it is just pretending. Appears you just like going around different forums trying to stir things up. Yawwwwnnnnn
  12. This is 100% your choice. Heavy adversity is a great way to see and prove to yourself what you are really made of. One person in your exact shoes sees this as the most spiritual time in their life. They have never prayed so sincere in their life and felt so guided as they do now. The other person decides to crumble. It is a choice.
  13. Is it possible, yes. Is it something to aspire to? Improving our behavior and praying sincerely is something to work towards, but aspiring to receive a vision I would suggest is not. Some members will have experiences like this for themselves or those under their stewardship. How Heavenly Father decides to communicate between individuals is...well "individual". Perhaps soft promptings of the Spirit are enough to guide a person. On the other hand maybe a vision is required for a different person. I have been a member for decades and have not had what I would equate to a Tree of Life Vision, no do I ever expect one. "IF" it happens, it would be because Heavenly Father wanted it to happen, not because I aspired or expected it to happen. Also, I would be more inclined to believe that Nephi would have suggested that his brothers could receive their own personal confirmations to the truth. How that confirmation could have taken place could have been varied, but not limited to only a personal vision. On a side note, not sure why, but I feel I should also mention: Revelation/visions that come to us flow down to your own stewardship, they don't flow up the chain.
  14. Family looked at it a couple weeks ago before the holidays, several good places to serve both LDS and non-LDS. Suppose it only counts if you actually do something about it versus just "look at it". Soon! :)
  15. This is tricky because you limit one device and they think another one is fair game. We have days that we say nothing with a "screen" on it. We limit our kids to 1hr a day for computer/video games.
  16. Yep, my skills only get me the small thumbnails too. The thumbnails allow you to click through to the big picture, but I'm not sure how to embed the large picture from the beginning? Perhaps Anatess can help out, her skills are visibly more advanced :)
  17. I'm not very good at this yet and I can tell from other posts that my skills are still lacking, however... using the bottom right tab that says "More Reply Options" gives you an option to "Attach Files". That is all I know so far??
  18. My father always taught us... "If the Lord can't trust you with a little money, why would he bless you with a lot" Regardless of how much you have, I always try to remind myself, "What am I doing with the amount I have now?" Tithing, generous fast offering, employed the needy, funding scouts, etc?
  19. That is (was) WONDERFUL Anatess!! Here are some pictures of the fun on our end, I'm guessing you might recognize some of the mutations. Pastels and Spider are both single gene, so the combination of Bumblebee is a 2 gene python. At the time we closed shop, we were up to a 6 gene combo ...ah fun times.
  20. I think that was the missing link. I had a Poll Title but NOT a Thread topic also. Gracias LP!
  21. 9 out of 10 times my tinker projects turn into full blown endeavors, so I have to be real careful what I start. Last one was raising and breeding ball python mutations (pattern/color). Started with a few for fun, ended with several hundred snakes and a not so happy wife :)
  22. Attempted all of these steps like you outlined. I went to the "post", it gave me the your topic heading or something like that needs to be greater than 2 characters long. Did you get this error, or did you have some title already?? P.S. thanks for trying/testing this out too!
  23. Yes, I can see this. I spend all day (work day) dealing with new/potential customers. By time I'm home, I admittedly feel spent and drained from talking with "people". Ambivert = thanks for sharing that, I think that would be myself too.
