  1. Very sorry to hear Anatess. Strong members can unfortunately become weak BUT weak members (ex-members) can become strong again too... you never really know. The one thing you can know for sure is what "you" are going to do regardless of what others do. Members leaving the church over a policy change isn't something new and will most likely happen every time new "change" occurs. Either the Savior is in charge of running "his" church OR he is not. I think many faithful Latter-day Saints have taken the time to understand, study and pray about the changes in the church. Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith. If faithful lifetime members are leaving the church because of a month old policy, it seems like a pretty knee jerk reaction to me. I wonder how much pleading unto the Lord they did for understanding of the policy first?
  2. Save $15 on an item you really didn't think you needed to begin with. 1. Struggle to find parking 2. Stand (fight) in line 3. Crazy people 4. 99% fake off brand deals 5. Long check out lines 6. Etc. I'll save more than $15 by just not going in the first place. Marketing ploy with a real deal only once every 5 years.
  3. I joined Anonymous this week to fight/hack ISIS, but no one knows about it... I'm sneaky like that.
  4. I accumulated a box just like this. Kept hanging on to it "just in case". Technology/cords change so fast that a lot of it is obsolete before you realize it anyways. Goodwill in our area has a "computer" donation center. I just took the whole box there. Great feeling to get rid of the clutter/junk!
  5. Thanks for the thread. I just went and unfriended about 30 people. Honestly, the Studio-C video is dead on. I only really care to see things about a small handful of family/friends, the rest is just people blabbing about their crafts/breakfast/hair etc. I was polite in accepting friend requests, but it all feels more like "spam" versus stuff you really care about. Bah Humbug!
  6. Oh boy,... sorry Lehi. That was my horrible fail at an attempt to add some light humor to the world of general tech support. You seem like a wonderful person, my bad for any confusion! Please keep sharing all your wonderful posts, glad you are here!!
  7. I agree with the articles too, shame. Has happened to us several times while living in Utah at BYU and several times out in the Midwest USA too. Utah Valley is full of places like this from makeup, island mystery drinks and discount coupon cards.
  8. Wife just reminded me about a couple others... 1. She was invited to go to lunch and bring the kids to play. Wife thought, "oh, she wants to be my friend, that's nice" - nope MLM lunch instead 2. I was approached by the area Seminary Director, I was a seminary teacher at the time, about his son-in-law being a small business adviser and could he talk with me. Since we own a small business I said yes (dumb on my part). MLM garbage from his son-in-law, zero small business advise. Nice me quickly turned into get out of my office. Even after I literally kicked him out, he called the following day to see if was still interested. To this this day, I will never trust the sincerity of these three individuals or their real motives.
  9. I truly appreciate all of the great information, experiences and feelings that you all have shared, honestly from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU ALL. Thank you for stepping forward, not hiding and openly saying "I'm a survivor too". Just like my dear survivor, I am extremely proud of you for taking the time to share with others in an effort to help them heal. You all have shared a lot of wonderful information to go over, now one step at a time down the path we go to take control our of lives and not let this situation control us.
  10. Being invited to a ward members house for dinner = nice and thoughtful Being invited to a ward members house under the disguise of dinner only have the MLM people jump on you = not so nice and thoughtful
  11. Many of the reasons you state as why some people aren't called aren't really reasons at all...for some people. While it might be true that my "reasons" were not factors for the specific individuals you shared it doesn't discount those reasons for others. Labeling my examples as "not reasons at all" for all people would be incorrect. For each bishop that was called and moved 1 year later, it is equally plausible that another elsewhere was not called for that exact reason. While perhaps your husband was up to the task of Bishop and a move, there could have been another candidate not ready for both at once. My two cents :)
  12. Yes, welcome to the site, glad you are here!
  13. Thank you so much thus far LP, I truly appreciate it! I already left work, meet the survivor, and just finished watching the talk by Sister Okazaki on youtube that you recommended. Wonderful talk, simply wonderful. You can tell she has done her homework and this is a subject that she deeply cares about. I look forward to seeing the links you might have later on and also taking a look at your book too. I'll see if I can figure out the PM thing in a moment. Thank you for stepping forward as a survivor and helping others, you will be blessed and have already blessed us both over here.
  14. After many, many years, someone very dear to me has let me know of sexual abuse from their childhood. Compounding the issue, it was a family member who was the abuser. This person has been to the bishop, great guy, but not trained for this type of specific recovery. They have also been to a LDS Family Services Counselor, who was very helpful, but eventually even their expertise was limited to general recovery and not specific to sexual abuse. So... I realize there are others out there that have gone through this personally or know someone who has. Can anyone suggest a specific book, video series, on-line group, etc. for sexual abuse survivors to find help? THANK YOU in advance!
  15. New guy tech support here: "Sir, are you logged in under your account? The like button will not appear if you are not logged in." LeSellers: "Butt out new guy, I'm logged in. Thanks for the obvious support, bravo" New guy tech support: "Roger that, off to a different thread!"
  16. Our Stake was down 80%+. This all happened around the time our Stake was reorganized, so many folks hoped the drop was a result of reorganization flaws (wink wink). I support our ward scouts by offering every single boy who needs "work" the opportunity to save for Scout Camp, that's about it. I don't donate anything, I offer "work" opportunities instead. Nothing to the district, nothing to FOS.
  17. For me, it never comes off except a very few reasons - shower, swimming, sauna or intimacy, nothing else. "Finding" excuses to remove it perhaps reflects more on other internal issues rather than the physical garment itself. Having things right internally/spiritually, leads you to find every reason to keep it on.
  18. Agreed Agreed. Big difference between something that may lead vs. something that is considered apostasy. I can take a snap shot of 10 actual sisters I actually know who married outside the church. Carborendum's example of his personal sister unfortunately rings too true. Of the ten sisters I know: 2 - Husbands were baptized after about 20-30 years only once they aged in their senior/elder years. 1 - Currently has a "supportive" spouse who allows home teachers, comes to events and appears pretty neutral. 4 - Have non-supportive husbands. Husbands who gripe every time the wife wants to go to church, relief society events, etc. Husbands who intentionally plan family outings on Sunday. Husbands who tell the kids they don't need to go to Seminary in the morning so they can get more sleep to be in some other school activity. Husbands who make is apparently awkward for home/visiting teachers to come over. Husbands who are always trying to slide in "gotcha" remarks, ex: "see the news says drinking wine is good for you", "I know a Mormon who screwed up this way...", or articles similar to what your husband presented. Most of these sisters have never been endowed either. In some cases because the husband didn't want the wife in Gs. So on and so on. 3 - Divorced I feel bad for those spouses who carry the burden all by themselves to raise a family in the church, especially the sisters who don't have the priesthood in their home, etc. In my opinion, why does it have the potential of leading to apostasy for both the member spouse and the member kids... the inability to serve two masters. You are trying to teach one example, and your spouse may be teaching a totally different one. Divided loyalties exist in the family, that can lead to spiritual weakness and confusion. So long answer to your question: NO marrying outside the church is not apostasy, but from what I have seen time and time again it is a huge up hill battle and many people can't keep up the fight when their main person of supposed support is actually the anchor dragging them down.
  19. Apparently the church enjoys the tradition of Christmas lights... so do I! https://www.lds.org/church/events/temple-square-lights-2013?lang=eng We have celebrated Halloween in our ward for as long as I can remember, Trunk-or-Treat and costumes. Only rule that routinely gets brought up at these functions (other than cross dressing) is, you can dress up but no "masks" allowed. Handbook 2 - 13.6.25 Unapproved Activities Church units may not sponsor the following activities. Leaders, parents, and others who plan or participate in Church activities should be aware of these restrictions..."3. Activities that involve wearing masks, except in dramatic productions."
  20. Spammers, scammers and dog poo... 3 ways to ruin part of someone's day quickly Thanks Pam for the insight!
  21. Two parts: 1. Attempted to register previously using my real email, a @yahoo.com account. Was denied multiple times, some kind of message about email not accepted on this site?? So... I made a one time use Google email to see if that worked, it did and here I am today. 2. Ultimately, what I would like to do, if possible is receive email notifications that threads have been updated on which I have participated. Is this an option? If so, can I direct those notifications to my real email instead? Thank you!
  22. I can see being curious, it is fun to learn new things, at least I enjoy it. We are counselled to do our due diligence / background checks / home work on matters. Study it out "first", and then present it to our HF to see if it be right or wrong. I would hope while the First Presidency was doing their due diligence, that despite anything positive or negative found, that ultimately it would be presented to HF for spiritual confirmation one way or another and that the Holy Ghost was the final deciding factor. If you find any concrete insight, please do share. Good luck!
