I see your point, and I do not disagree. Not entirely, anyway. Our duty as parents is to hide many of the uglier realities from our children while they are yet tender and too immature to deal with such things. As others have pointed out, when the children come home with questions, you must deal with that immediately, no fiddling around or prevaricating.
But often, vaccination is better than treatment. Since, in our filthy world, our children will be exposed to such ideas and trends -- even homeschooled children -- we need to equip them proactively with protection, answers, and ways of dealing with ambiguity and ignorance (their own and that of others). I have often wondered if I am polluting my pure, innocent children when I discuss such things with or in front of them, and I am sure that I have not always acted wisely in that regard. But I have chosen to be pretty proactive and forward about such matters. So far, it seems to have worked in our favor; I hope and pray it continues to do so.

For those parents who feel out of their element having such conversations with their children (about sexuality, gender roles, puberty, bodies, etc.) you'll be pleased to know that the Church has published a pamphlet to aid you in this. Take a look at A Parent's Guide. It's even broken down by age groups.

Again, notice in the OP, the 2nd grader brought up the subject, meaning they had already been exposed to information from somewhere.
It is, of course, totally up to you on how much you want to talk about things with your kids.  If you're fine with peers/schools/internet being their sole source of information about such things, that's your choice.   You don't homeschool by chance, do you?

Don't really know how to word this, but the thought rolls around in my little brain.
Heavenly Father training / requiring us to live by faith seems a lot like Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid sometimes. We do things by faith. Not seeing and perhaps not having a real understanding of why or how. Here is a small conversation from Karate Kid:
Daniel: So? So, you're supposed to teach and I'm supposed to learn! For 4 days I've been bustin' my "rear", and haven't learned a thing!
    Miyagi: You learn plenty.
Daniel: I learn plenty, yeah, I learned how to sand your decks maybe. I washed your car, paint your house, paint your fence. I learn plenty!
Miyagi: Ah, not everything is as seems...
I often think about the many wonders our Father in Heaven has in store for us if we would just learn to trust him without always asking why?, how come?, I don't get it?, I learned nothing, etc.
Almost like some of the glorious wonders he wants to share with us, he simply can not until we have learned to have complete trust in him first. Like he needs us at a "just do it" level. Not a think and ponder all day about it, but simply just "trust me" level.
Make sense?? Anyone phrase this better?

Just for fun.. anyone ever wonder, if both spouses make it to same Ter or Tel Kingdoms as each other, what separates them from finding each other there, and hanging out, or saying they consider themselves married (similar to earth life)? Living together...

Maybe nothing. But marriage is far more than hanging out together and using the word "marriage". It is far more even than a license for sex. If that were all there was to it, homosexual "marriage" would be a real thing instead of just a legalized nonsensical fiction.

Sales is more like a loaded gun.
If you can't handle fulfillment and post-sale service properly, you're handing the gun to a drunken chimpanzee.  It might push your financial issues out a bit, but they'll be right back and bigger than ever when customers start posting on Yelp, giving bad word-of-mouth, and suing.  Then you need the PR firm for damage control.
Seen way too many companies outsell their ability (or willingness) to serve, and end up going down the toilet in spectacular ways.  I've also worked for a couple of companies who reined in their sales efforts a lot after initial market exposure because word of mouth was catching up with their capacity, and by focusing hard on service, they even had to expand quite a bit in every department except sales and marketing as new customers just started showing up.
Think about how many brands regarded for exceptional qualty (and I'm even excluding the elite stuff most of us can't afford, like Lamborghini) have relatively tiny sales and marketing budgets.  You'll see Ralph Lauren ads in targeted media, but never anywhere near the level of saturation you see from Gap or Old Navy.  Same thing with Armani; the occasional "hey, don't forget we still exist" ad or a targeted one that's more of a new product announcement in a fashion or health magazine, but you're not bombarded with them during Big Bang Theory.

As someone who has this situation in real life, I can tell you that my testimony took a hit when seeing the reality of this in my life. It was very, VERY difficult to imagine eternal life without the one I adore by my side. The church focuses so much on family and eternal relationships (which it should) that sometimes we overlook the realities.
But as you said, that's what faith is all about. I have to trust the Lord that He actually does know best. If my husband is able to be my eternal companion, then I will be ecstatic. If he isn't and I'm enjoying eternal life, then I'll be ecstatic (because we believe we will actually be happy living in CK). That takes a truckload of faith when you see reality each day. But, faith is like that isn't it? Because I can do everything great, but still doesn't mean squat without the Atonement, which is something we also take on faith.
Gosh, life is hard but I'm banking on God being who He says He is. He can help us to strengthen faith in the face of the reality of our daily struggles and give us glimpses of what is in store for His children. Just gotta choose it, walk by faith, and just endure well.

Hum...perhaps the real "happy heaven" others speak of involves the belief that all marriages and families are dissolved in heaven automatically.
Yah, that sounds happier to me.

Amusing fact; there was another actor in Hollywood in the 80s named Michael Knight, who got a lot of mis-addressed fan mail.
Somewhat creepy corollary: in 1989, Catherine Hickland divorced David Hasselhoff and later married Michael Knight.  Always wondered if there was something to that, especially considering she married the Hoff (and played his fiancee in the 1st, 2nd and 4th seasons, then nearly 30 seconds as his wife in the 4th season before her character was killed) during Knight Rider's run.

Boy, a million and one things to spend hundreds of hours on, and the OP spends it on learning about evil spirits. Not chemistry, not art, not literature, not agriculture, not the light, but the dark and evil spirits. Sigh.

I guess I go two ways on this. I don't spend a lot of time thinking or talking about the Adversary. I don't give him a lot of room in my life. On the other hand, I do think that we can create good or bad atmospheres in our home by what we bring in, what we spend time on, how we speak to each other, etc.

This may not be the best way to deal with it, but I live hundreds of miles away from toxic family members because they are toxic and I don't want them in my daily life. I stay away from people with a lot of drama. Are they evil? No, they're just people who can't handle their issues, BUT, depending what those issues are, you can get friggin' killed hanging around some folks, so I stay away (that's the Philly girl talking. You guys probably don't have homicide-level drama in Utah).

As for "Parley P. Pratt called electricity a “spiritual fluid.” meaning anything, people called electricity all kinds of things in the early days. What one person, not a scientist, called it is meaningless. I taught about early technologies and technology/utility polices and worked on tech policy in a think tank. I know more than a little bit about this topic.  Men used to think women and blacks shouldn't work with electricity. I'd as much believe or be influenced by what Pratt said about electricity as I would be by what Captain Kangaroo said about nuclear physics. Jeez.

Of course there's a problem in that thinking. The fact that being LDS in and of itself does not make one a good counselor (which is true) doesn't equate to the statistical idea that, perhaps, broadly LDS counselors are better suited for such-n-such. Understanding the difference between individual bias and statistical facts is important.
Women are statistically physically weaker than men = fact
So-n-so is a woman so she must be weaker than me, a man = bias

Great question. I unfortunately don't have an answer since I'm unaware of the standard that is required to qualify as "your chance to hear the gospel".
Does a 15 minute door conversation with the missionaries count?
Does a 3 hr meeting count? A 3 week visit? I simply do not know what qualifies as, "you had your chance on earth" scenario.
My understanding is that when people pass onto the spirit world, though their surroundings/circumstances have changed, that doesn't necessarily mean they will be more inclined to listen to the gospel then they were before. Maybe their teachers might be more "advanced"? Maybe hearing the lessons a second time might really click. Example.
Missionary in Spirit World: "Hey, Carb's friend, remember when Carb shared with you about the spirit world? Well, um, he was right, here you are!". Perhaps those that have heard some on earth might see things actually coming to pass and be more inclined to listen a second time??
Really... what do I know? Honestly, I'm just guessing since I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. Off to preform surgery...
