And I suspect this (taking light away from those who reject it) is yet another form of mercy.

There are some in the religious community that define worship in such a way that it appears to them that we Mormons worship Joseph Smith.  My response to such thinking is that if it is necessary to define worship in such a way that it is argued that the esteem we hold for Joseph is a form of worship then by that same logic and argument – Traditional Christians (non-Mormons) worship the Bible.
By whatever logic it is determined or understood that non-Mormons Christians do not actually and really worship the Bible – use that same logic to understand that Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith.

    Butter goes rancid.
    Betty Botter bought a bit of butter;
“But,” she said, “this butter’s bitter!
If I put it in my batter
It will make my batter bitter
But a bit of better butter
Will but make my batter better.”
so she bought a bit of butter
    Better than her bitter butter,
    Made her bitter batter better.
    So ’twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter.
In any case, whipped honey is dead easy. The more fluid it is, the better. Then you, well, just whip it. It turns white, and I can't recall any that crystallized later. Probably because it didn't last long enough.

Also, @Zarahemla, while pondering @NeedleinA's question, it might be wise to review each verse and ask yourself whether we are living that verse today.

I would recommend you ponder whether you are correctly applying the principle taught in that quote from Joseph Smith.  And ask yourself how that fits with this quote from Joseph Smith:
...and for that matter, every revelation he taught, because the Gospel only works when the whole of what you know is considered as a whole, each truth helping to shed light on every other truth so that the light of the whole gives you a clearer picture than the light from any one piece alone (which is why we are constantly striving to learn more - to increase the total light, which increases our understanding of each piece we already have).

    Obedience is always necessary.
I see polygamy in the same light as i see the Law of Moses...Something when commanded then our exaltation depends on it... and when it is not, it does not.

Since Doc&Cov section 132 is all about celestial marriage with a more-than-healthy dose of Plural Marriage, to reject it as a revelation would negate the whole concept of eternal marriage, the need for Temples and many other of our "second-tier" doctrines.
So, since "we believe all that God has revealed", it seems that this is also a rejection of modern prophets and that Father is leading His Church.
One might say that rejecting the revelation of Plural Marriage is tantamount to wholesale, personal apostasy.

My short version of that question is yes I believe you will need all that we are taught in the temple. Else why do temple work for the dead , I have known at times when the person I was doing the work for was there and learning the things with me.  Think about it do you think you preformed ordinances before coming here. There is one that is preformed in the temple that prepares us to minister to our posterity.

And, this being true, the issue is why we "praise" him. It's the second half of the first sentence of the hymn: "… who communed with Jehovah, Jesus anointed that prophet and seer" then, "blessed to open the last dispensation".
This hymn doesn't show us worshiping Joseph Smith, it shows us "praising" him because of Jesus Christ and what He did, in this case, what He did through His prophet.

Sadly, this is in fact a dangerous thing to do... a pedestal of worship. If someone has elevated Joseph Smith to worshiping status they are often times "crushed" once they learn some historical fact about him that they didn't know previously. Rather than simply seeing him as an imperfect human, which he was, there is a tendency by some to go off the deep end and revolt against him entirely instead, doing a 180.
We learn about him, we study what he did for the restoration, we show the correct definition of "praise" to him and we are grateful for his contributions... but we don't worship him.

I can only assume it's related to this Brigham Young quote:
To me it's akin to teachings from the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon which indicate that the 12 called by Christ in Israel will assist in the final judgement of the Jews and that the the 12 called in the americas will assist in the judgement of the Nephites and Lamanites. Likewise Joseph Smith, according to Brigham Young, will assist in the judgement of those in this dispensation.

    Why do you ask?
Yes, as Doc&Cov 135 says, he has done more for the salvation of the world, Christ excepted, than any man who's lived on the planet: we see him as one of the most important persons to ever live on this earth. How that gets morphed by enemies of the Kingdom of God into our worshiping him is only a mystery if one doesn't understand how Satan works. He is the master of distortion, the king of twisting, and the deceiver par excellence.
It's not because of the Book of Mormon that we need his approval to enter the Kingdom, it's because he holds the keys under Peter (and he under Christ), and he (along with Twelve Apostles) will judge us prior to Peters' judging us (if that's the way you read the scriptures on the subject), and before we receive a final judgement from Jesus Himself. It's about keys, not books, it's about authority, not revelation. We're grateful for the revelation, we thank God for the books, but of all the things restored through Joseph Smith, it's the keys we are (or should be) more grateful for.

Yeah, this is one of the enduring criticisms that really just doesn't have even the tiniest leg to stand on.  The thing was written right after Joseph's martyrdom, for pete's sake.  Ever been to a funeral where the deceased wasn't praised?  Is mormondom to be condemned for the sin of grieving over a lost great man?  For remembering the prophet who ushered in the last dispensation?  What sort of messed-up, cold-hearted critic would deny a song marking the passing of an important person?
Yeah, do the folks advancing this criticism also have problems with MLK day and President's day?  Don't wanna get accused of worshipping George Washington, now do we!
See how easy it is to go on the attack when encountering this one?

I don't remember now where I had read this, but the concept of turning the cheek comes from a tradition during Roman times. As Jews were seen as slaves, when the initial slap was received it was a slap of superiority specifying "I am master you are slave." The notion of turning the cheek required the master to slap the cheek that would be considered the slap of an equal. If the cheek was turned, then the master would have to slap the side of the cheek and in a manner that meant the master saw the slave as an equal, which meant that the individual would not get slapped again, as the master wouldn't slap him on that side. It was an interesting read.

In fact everyone in this thread should take notice his actions in that matter, and decide if you want to take the risk of that happening to you.

well, hitlary will lead you into the next war, you people don´t want. she promised her jewish backers to assist Israel with the "Iran" problem. Most of all, being morally bankrupt, she only stands for one group and that is the people that pay her campaign and I am no necessarily talking about the voters that have problems opening their eyes and ears. Also we are talking about a person, that has nothing in common with average hard working joe and hasn´t had a civilian job in how many decades ... ? she just went from one seat of power to the next, living off the taxpayer and promising them to continue to do so against any interest of the american people. However to be fair, voting for Clintor Trum / CLUMP is equally a bad choice, one of them being pest and the other the bourbonic plague. In light of those... a second american revolution might just be a very healthy idea.

We can, since "Judeo-Christian" predates either Jesus' birth or Judah's — it goes back to Adam.
And you have evidence that what we're doing is "improving"? How? What? Who decides it's "improving" and not "regressing"?
You seem to be suffering from a severe case of chronocentrism and, specifically, presentism.
