Man, that was fast!  In and out in like 5 minutes. :)

  2. So zil, do you like drawing? So do I.

David, I just doodle silly things to post on forums.  And sometimes I Zentangle, or sketch rough maps of worlds for novels in progress.  But I don't think any of that is good enough to call "drawing". :)

  3. Re: pens

    Hi Zil

One of the pillars of our stake is a super pen geek. He's in his 80's now and takes about 14 pills a day to stay alive, but he still turns out a lot of hand made pens every year. He's a true craftsman, not just a hobbyist and works to very high standards. I'm not sure if he does fountain pens. He's fascinated with exotic woods which he sources from all over the world, such as from long ago sunken ships, or rare trees, or wood that has been recycled from historic artifacts like hand carts and famous pieces of furniture. He then uses a lathe to turn the wood into pens, most of which he gives away to people all over the world. Most of them time when he shares his testimony, there will be at least a few references to pens or wood. He's not interested in making money from selling them, he just loves making pens. You can see a sample of the kind of wood he uses at  .http://www.penturners.org/forum/f13/conkerberry-peter-elegant-sierra-78218/  Peter didn't make this pen, but he provided the wood from which it was made.

Nice.  I love watching lathe-work.  No idea why, just love it.  I watched a YouTube video not that long ago of a guy turning a pen from wood recovered from a sailing ship that had sunk long, long ago - it was cool.

Most turners buy fountain pen kits (same as ballpoint or roller ball kits) and turn the body of the pen to match the kit.  I actually have one of those turned by one of my dad's friends.  The acrylic is beautiful, but I don't really like the pen itself - too heavy and the grip section is too thin and slippery (chrome or something).  So it sits there and looks pretty. :)

  4. Hello Zil, you seem to have been unusually quite lately. Is all well?

Yes, @askandanswer, all is well.  I had to go away for a while, but I'm back - though I probably won't post as much as I was.  Thank you for checking on me, I sincerely appreciate it.
