  1. Imagine politicians of our day saying such things. Then imagine LDS HQ, like Catholic Church HQ, was made sovereign - truly giving us all a separation of church and state. Here's to hoping.
  2. Yes. That's the beauty of the gospel. Your father, like all of us, when he dies will go to the Spirit World where missionaries and members work and teach and preach like (mortal) missionaries do. The Final Judgement won't occur until after the 1,000 year Millennium, during which time, your father and the rest of us will be given another chance to repent, improve, accept more gospel truth, etc. Many, many, many more chances...one might say an almost-infinite amount infinite amount of chances since the Atonement is infinite, (noting the Final Judgement)
  3. True, and by following His example. Does this include Prophets' and Apostles' writings in the Journal of Discourses, specifically those which speculate on His martial status? I like to think it does - though I know these discourses are NOT considered cannon or anything even resembling cannon - because those texts with current Prophets and Apostles' guidance add more and compliment each other.
  4. Khan's son died due to a war Clinton repeatedly voted for, when she wasn't voting to limit the funds required to send the military the weapons and defenses they needed. Trump never supported the Iraq War. Everyone who died in Benghazi was a direct result of Hillary Clinton. Trump had nothing to do with this.
  5. That is what the "legalize polyamory" movement's goal is, or at least, that's one of their goals. Time is irrelevant in the eternities, which mortality is arguably part of. Progress is relevant. I can't speak for others but I am a breeding cow. When that ceases to work, biotech will assist me.
  6. years: 12 8 6 5 4 3 2 1 8/12, etc 0.666667 0.75 0.833333 0.8 0.75 0.666667 0.5 12/8., etc. 1.5 1.333333 1.2 1.25 1.333333 1.5 2 Seems like if your pattern holds, President Monson will repeat this warning in either 3 years or 2 years, leaving 2029 at the zero point if we're lucky. As for getting right with God, seems like a personal matter; faith, repentance, baptism, and Holy Ghost and Temple Ordinances are required. After that - as we continue faithfully, God expects us to be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves, including surviving the overflowing scourges of the last days. Just seems to me, form an objective point of view, one must live in relatively isolated, high altitude locations - basically avoiding large cities, the coasts, and earthquake/fault zones. As for the poor that are always with us, as JonnieZ says, I'm not sure what the right approach here is, other than generous fast offerings. When the plagues come, the poor and unprepared will break down our doors to obtain our resources; not sure God wants us to welcome them with open arms or anticipate what will happen and plan accordingly, without needing to be commanded in all things.
  7. President Monson has said in General Conference: April 2008 As bearers of the priesthood, we have been placed on earth in troubled times. We live in a complex world with currents of conflict everywhere to be found. Political machinations ruin the stability of nations, despots grasp for power, and segments of society seem forever downtrodden, deprived of opportunity, and left with a feeling of failure. October 2014 As bearers of the priesthood, we have been placed on earth in troubled times. We live in a complex world with currents of conflict everywhere to be found. Political schemes ruin the stability of nations, despots grasp for power, and segments of society seem forever downtrodden, deprived of opportunity and left with a feeling of failure. The sophistries of men ring in our ears, and sin surrounds us. -- Any thoughts on this? Makes me think it's time to prepare, like a lot; like buying antibiotics, weapons, fuel, year supply of food, etc. Makes me wonder also if the Restored Gospel is compatible with any political party, and I think the answer is no because God's goals aren't subject to being re-elected.
  8. Seems like many if not all couples, of all religions actually, could use some time when their spouses pester other people, be they additional spouses or others in church ball...

  10. Big E and Big MG and I guess Big Z, Still new here but not quite sure how we're supposed to magically know the gender of all other users, even the androgynous ones, as well as the past spiritual history of other users (Big E, this refers to my attempted conversation with Godless.)

  12. True, reincarnation as a principle is false. Rebirth, albeit with the same continuous consciousness / spiritual being / essence, is the term used for our: birth as spirit bodies, mortal birth, baptism and confirmation, Temple marriage, eternal progression and exaltation. The difference is in degree not in kind.
  13. False flag. False culture war. Distraction from hundreds of other failures.
  14. https://www.amazon.com/Kolob-Theorem-Mormons-Starry-Universe/dp/1475172133 As far as I understand the book, the theory is that the 3 kingdoms are organized basically like planets, stars, our sun, etc. which seems to stand to reason to me - vis-a-vis the refiner's fire motif, etc., like only the purest and strongest materials can withstand the highest heat..."God dwells amid everlasting burnings" At the funeral of a man with the unique name of King Follett, Joseph Smith declared: “… although the earthly tabernacle is laid down and dissolved, they shall rise again to dwell in everlasting burnings immortal glory ….” So where is the evidence in support of these prophetic declarations. Since a major astronomical discovery in 2004, all you have to do to answer this question is Google the phrase “biggest diamond in the universe.” In 2004 scientists discovered a gigantic diamond, approximately 4000 km in diameter, inside a white dwarf star. I first learned of this from an article in the Gold Coast Bulletin and on www.news.com.au in February 2004. So evidence number 5 is that: 5. Joseph Smith declared that a place exists that is amid “everlasting burnings” with a place that is like a giant sea of glass. The 2004 discovery of a giant diamond inside a white dwarf star confirms that places such as this truly do exist. Since Joseph Smith and John the Revelator did not have the benefit of the Hubble space telescope, the only way they could have known of the existence of these remarkable astronomical objects is by revelation from God. Or by a VERY lucky guess.
  15. It is both that we'll never stop having spirit children and our spirit children will keep having spirit children in a forever posterity...and, I think, that our posterity will inherit the faith-promoting characteristics that we hopefully demonstrate. 16. True but where's the fun in that? That = giving people the knowledge directly. 2 Nephi 1-4: Lehi's death bed sermon speaks to me of some Buddhaic principles, as do the other scriptures below....like the "God would cease to be God" motif seems to me to be eerily similar to like having a disagreement / Bible bash only it woudl have been civil and edifying, where Buddha and Lehi made GReek-like arguments which carrie dout the logic of thier beliefs to the next stage and next stage, etc. with Lehi saying, if reincarnation were true, eventually God woudl cease ot be God, but my dear freind Siddartha - may I call you, Sid?- the Plan of Salvation does have distinct levels of eternal progression which, though we call rebirth are in almost reincarnation-like but not in reality." Alma 42:25 25 What, do ye suppose that mercy can rob justice? I say unto you, Nay; not one whit. If so, God would cease to be God. Mormon 9:19 19 And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles. Alma 42:22 22 But there is a law given, and a punishment affixed, and a repentance granted; which repentance, mercy claimeth; otherwise, justice claimeth the creature and executeth the law, and the law inflicteth the punishment; if not so, the works of justice would be destroyed, and God would cease to be God. Alma 42:13 13 Therefore, according to justice, the plan of redemption could not be brought about, only on conditions of repentance of men in this probationary state, yea, this preparatory state; for except it were for these conditions, mercy could not take effect except it should destroy the work of justice. Now the work of justice could not be destroyed; if so, God would cease to be God. Mormon 9:15 15 And now, O all ye that have imagined up unto yourselves a god who can do no miracles, I would ask of you, have all these things passed, of which I have spoken? Has the end come yet? Behold I say unto you, Nay; and God has not ceased to be a God of miracles.
  17. Zil and Big Z are terms of endearment. When did everyone get so touchy around here? And, to redirect, I think polyamory will be legalized and plural marriage re-instituted before the Millennium.

  20. If we believe that God gave portions of truth to leaders of all other religions, why wouldn't He guide Lehi (and the Jaredites) to others who woudl add to the truth Lehi e tal had...or for Lehi et al to add ot the light Buddha and others had?
  21. IMHO, John 17:5 is the Savior's request to be deemed worthy for re-admittance into His Father's presence, after completing the Atonement....or perhaps the Savior is asking for all of the knowledge (knowledge is glory) that Jehovah had with the Father during the PGP-referenced event. That knowledge may have helped the Savior understand why infinite suffering was required....or that knowledge may further demonstrate that the Savior, like us, learned precept on precept, and progressed from one lesson to the next harder lesson; comprehended one gospel principle and then the next more advanced concept. Due to the pain of the Atonement, the Savior may have been asking to be re-admitted back to Father's presence....but since He knew He was going to be crucified, this probably isnt the case.
