  1. In reading this, I have realized that I tend to have the mindset “guilty until proven innocent” for both the alleged perpetrator and alleged victim... and this is for really any controversial court case...
  2. Utah Mormons truly are the most righteous Mormons Proof that we really do believe in the Old Testament (I forget this sometimes) Bishops ought to wear ‘5 finger death punch’ T-shirts to church Bringing casseroles to new neighbors is symbolic of the true celestial way of being accepted into God’s presence. When Brigham Young said “this is the place”, he was really said “this is definitely not the place”, but it got lost in translation as word passed back down the wagon line.
  3. I guess I just don’t understand it all... If I was wronged that heavily by a leader, I would drag that person to the prophets office by what ever means possible (figuratively speaking of course). I would tell everyone until something happened. Only thing causing me hesitation would be if I was somehow guilty of something too. But this does bring up the question, why was she in the basement in the first place? If a church leader ever said “let’s go to the basement” when I didn’t need to be there... I mostly definitely would not go. I’m not saying that maybe she has some role in it... but I’m all not saying she didn’t.
  4. Actually a pretty good movie
  5. Lost faith in what? Faith in God? Faith in the fact that this is the true church? We are taught over and over again in the church that there is an after life. That judgement doesn’t come until judgement day. Our rewards and punishments will not come until the end. God has been saying this, the church has been saying this. You even know the saying “the church is perfect, not the people)... why are you losing faith? Everything the church has claimed is true and still is true even after the scandal. This terrible event isn’t some thing that goes against what has been previously said, it’s just a terrible event. It still falls perfectly in line with what has been said in the past. Scripture speaks of things like this all the time, modern day prophets and apostle do too. So why are people losing faith over things like this. When people say they left the church because they “lost faith”, I wonder if there was any faith to begin with.
  6. God won’t do for man what man can do for him/herself. How long ago did this happen. How long was it till she spoke out? Why didn’t she speak out sooner?
  7. The church of God that has a prophet called by God should not need Martin Luthers or any kind of reformer. If change is going to come in the church, it isn’t going to be some activist calling for change, it’s going to be from the prophet. the failure is not among the strong and righteous leadership of the church, the failure is in weak sections of the church. And the church leadership is striving non-stop to get everyone else where they are. Where they can be advocates for truth and righteousness. Our leaders are not ignorant self righteous people that bought their way to the top, they are people of great charity. Rather than trying to find ways to reform the church, we ought to decide how to live the gospel more closely.
  8. I know you weren’t criticizing the church Never thought that. I just get a little annoyed when bloggers/tweeters with large following make these grand posts like this as if they are “opening the eyes” of the Mormon church. I also struggle with understanding cause I have seen numerous situations where people have been hurt, but never once have I seen one where it was not handled with love and respect. Every time, that I have seen at least, someone claims they were handled unjustly by members or leadership, as she explains here, it tends be because they don’t like the consequences (which by nature tend to be extended by leadership). Ironically, of the congregation I have been in, the one that had the fewest problems had a bishop that didn’t follow the rules.
  9. I’ve said this before and I’ll keep saying it. i get annoyed when people say things like “We have a problem in this church!”. If we are going by Holland’s definition of “too much *insert sin*”... any amount is too much lived in Colorado for 10 years, KY of 2, and Utah for 10. I hear all sorts of people complaining about some church culture another and all I can think of is “The only people I see with these problems are the ones complaining about them”. I feel like the idea and possibility of it once happening and maybe happening again causes so massive of a fire that we never stop to think “is this really happening”. I feel like those hurt the most by “the system” are those that don’t understand the system or don’t use it how it ought to be used. And of course the small percentage of examples where something awful really is or did happen do arise too. I also thought the phrase she used to poke at the culture “if you aren’t faithful, you aren’t trustworthy”... ya... that’s what that means xD people who keep their covenants are a lot easier to trust than those that make them but don’t keep them. And when she says “I have been privy to some behind-the-scenes details of this story and have been discussing a lot on my wall. “I get kinda annoyed when people take this stance of supposed power against problems that are already being addressed by general authorities. Why do words of a frustrated blogger sway our hearts more than the words of the prophets?
  10. Everything, except the endowment, can and should be done as soon as one is able. The endowment can only be 1 year following baptism.
  11. Thoughts on viewing articles from Mormonleaks?
  12. Never before seen footage salvaged from the Dead Sea scrolls!
  13. I’ll respond in 25ish years when all my kids are in highschool
  14. Isn’t every Bruce Willis movie pro-2nd amendment?
  15. I understand the rock thing, but that just comes along with the redefinition of the force. I’m just saying that all the problems that people have fall under one of the following. 1: Same problems are in prequels and OT 2: Haven’t read or seen the TV series 3: hate the characterization and that dumb casino scene It has been a while since I have gotten this frustrated over a MormonHub Thread XD
  16. Luke took on the most powerful sith in all of existence after only like 3 days of training... but who cares?? Rey took on Kylo Ren (who was just hit by a Wookiee cross bow mind you) and almost beat him. I feel like Rey, who was raised fending for herself and carries around a staff most likely used for combat, almost beating Kylo is more realistic than Luke facing Vader. And almost all those other questions are answered in the books, or Starwars tv series that are came out before the movie.
  17. This too is found all throughout the Starwars movies. As I mentioned already, what in the world was the plan when they went to rescue Han Solo? Luke: ok, here is what we are ganna do. Leia, you bring in Chewbacca and give him to Jabba the Hut.Then you chill there and I’ll come in later, choke some pigs, maybe kill some monster, and do my Jedi thing. then at night when everyone is asleep, you save Han and we get out! Chewy: UAAHAHAHAGAGAGAGA Leia: Ya! How are we going to get Chewy out? Luke: I’m sure something will work out, let’s do this! Why didn’t anyone tell Luke who is family was? Why was Leia given an alias last name and not Luke? (Again, I don’t think they were meant to be brother and sister until episode 6) Why doesn’t anyone from episodes 1-3 recognize the droids? How does Leia remember her mother? Did Luke forget he had the force when facing the Rancor? Use the force Luke!... Or just throw a rock and the door to get it open. Why did the galaxy forget Jedi even existed only after 20 years? Their are glaring plot holes in every Starwars movie. Not just the new trilogy. Any issue people have with the new Starwars (excluding characterization, I agree that Rey is pretty dull) is found in abundance in episodes 1-6. Ever since the , every Starwars was been SO MUCH better in keeping true to decided plots. what the force is and the the events that occur line up very well, even in comparing the Starwars clone wars, Starwars rebels, and the new trilogy. episodes 1-6 redefines what the force was and cross and contradict so many plots. Episodes 1-6 are not NEARLY as good as the new generation stuff. ...there... I said it
  18. Star ears has ALWAYS been an assault on science. Especially in the OT.
  19. So far, all the new series are communicating perfectly. I honestly believe that until episode 6, Luke and Leah were NOT suppose to be related. It just seemed like it was something he thought would be a great idea so he threw it in. than the midiclorians that appeared in episode one and never again. The scene with Luke facing darthvader/himself on dagobah was great, but never again in George Lucas’s movies do we see anything like that again. What the heck is happening in the rescue plot in episode 6??? Luke personality DRASTICALLY changes in episode 6. how does Leia remember her biological mother when she clearly dies at birth?? The trilogy is so much more intrinsic and thought through. And have few major plot issues. (Though I can think of a few)
  20. I’m sick and tired of every single one of you haters! I absolutely love the new trilogy! For the first time the laws of the Starwars universe are making sense. The force is beginning to take an identity. It is more than just “magic” and less than science (midiclorians or however you spell it). Besides the scene with Luke facing Vader/himself on Dagobah, the force was never anything more than just a magical tool that you could only learn through rigorous training. They expanded in the Starwars Clone wars TV series approach to th force and expanded on the lore of what the force was. Not just a muscle to use. Special effects were done masterfully and their approach they took was awesome! Like looking up into the sky from the planet and seeing the star destroyers leave light space. That was one of my favorites. Lukes personality was SPOT ON! The sky walker family has ALWAYS had problems with dealing with their emotions and both Ben and Luke exhibited it. The only thing I didn’t like was the entire casino scene... I thought the characters were great! Kylo Ren was by far the best. Rey was rather forgettable, but her role really pushed the plot in reforming the new order that would replace the Jedi. And her role also explained that force is more than just an inherited muscle. I thought yoda’s Appearance was perfect. He was the only person that taught Luke of the Jedi and the only one that could convince Luke of the correct path he ought to have taken. I thought the ending was very poetic and very like Star Wars.
  21. If we were true Americans and loved liberty, we would invade now and enforce our superior lifestyle upon them. Everyone ought to be cheeseburger loving Americans!
