  1. Anyone seen “They look like people”. Watched it the other day and it is pretty good suspense movie. A bit of swearing but other than that there is minimal blood, no sex, etc.
  2. Ordinances are “void” when the covenants made in the dealings are broken. for example: at baptism you promise to keep the commandments of God. In return God promises you his spirit. If you don’t keep your promise, you don’t get the blessing. Sealings are the same. If you aren’t keeping the promises you made to your spouse and God, the blessings of the sealing will not be given to you.
  3. “The Beggining”: - In reference to the beggining if the Earth. The creation was revealed to Moses and that is where I came from. So I’m context (Moses 1-2), God is simply showing Moses how the Earth was made. So the phrase “the beggining” simply means “the first thing I did was...” Importance of the Lesson of the Fall: - Explains why we need the Atonement - Explains our responsibility with agency - Solves the “Problem of Evil” - An essential portion of the Plan of Salvation. This and the Atonement are the only major events that have occurred dealing with the plan of salvation. I personally feel the Fall alone contains a very large portion of the gospel, hence why we use it. It discusses the Atonement, Agency, POS, Obedience, Repentance and much more. It appears to me that the example of Adam and Eve are prototypes of what we all must go through. Be born, get married, sin, confess and repent.
  4. I appreciate this! Again... the moral of this story is not that we should kill if God tells us to x)

  6. I don’t think the purpose of these stories were to teach a bunch of saints to be willing to kill upon an impression. Rather he wants us to be obedient and faithful in all hazards of life. Whatever revelation we receive must be compared to currently revelation from prophets and apostles. I recently learned that Nephi’s killing of Laban was very much in line with current Jewish law and practice. as far as the many times God commanded us people to destroy other people in the OT, or the almost sacrifice of Isaac, I’m not sure. I have speculations! But I can’t confidently say for sure. But someone far more intelligent than I probably does Lastly, I have learned that death is not as big of a deal as some of us make it (including me!). Far too often have a met people who got angry at God because a family member died. Spiritual death is what we should fear and God has never commanded or forced anyone to be damned.
  7. I always appreciate a good, spirited discussion in religion and politics.. the only company I dislike is the company that gets offended. One of my all time favorite friends is a strict catholic that is debating between starting and family and being a priest. We have had a lot of great discussions where we have both casually said “As a catholic/LDS, I don’t agree with you at all on this and here is why”. Both sides are aware of the conflicts in doctrine, we discuss them, and still cheer each other on and have pleasant conversation. Same rule applies to politics. But As soon as someone gets offended, I tend to become offensive.
  8. Regardless it happens. I was in charge of a large amount of missionaries in an area and without fail, one week before their baptism some family member died, they got in a car accident the day of their confirmation or even on their way to the baptism (both happened), got anti’d, parents got a divorce, etc.
  9. I also wonder “can Satan make us sick” or “can he break our car?” And “Can Satan kill my grandma He day before I get baptized”. I’ve seen this time and time again and often time believe that it is God testing us and not Satan.
  10. I can relate but in a different sense. I never once baptized a person in my mission that didn’t have a crisis the week before their baptism. Also lost a lot of people a week before their baptisms too.
  11. On a side note, we can now read the handbook in ASL now deaf people will understand it!
  12. Funny story: I worked at a hotel once and a man came to the front desk and had a question about his room. “The room is under the name ‘Brandon Anderson’ it might have an ‘s’ in front of Anderson” I was really confused by his comment but sure enough there it was “Brandon Sanderson”. I answered his question and he left. I sat for for a few seconds trying to remember why the name sounded so familiar... then it hit... that was Brandon Sanderson The author xD ive never read his books. Around the time so lost interest in fiction my friends were going nuts about him. I tried reading mistborn but never lost interest pretty fast.
  13. Ingedients: - Turkey Instructions: - have fixed it
  14. I was thinking more along the lines of: INGREDIENTS: - Turkey INSTRUCTIONS: - Cook
  15. There aren’t THAT many countries that celebrate Thanksgiving... so whatever We eat becomes the official staple I’m sorry to say that it is still turkey.
  16. Two cent... I drove those cars for 2 years, I know how missionaries treat them I will never get one. jk that was just a running joke in my mission. I’ll look into it but if it is the same as my mission, they retire the cars at 50,000 miles. I don’t want anything over 20,000.
  17. I’m still pretty young and haven’t had a ton of experience on this, but I do have 2 examples. 1) My wife and I are still in school and after reading the words of the prophets, discussing and praying about, we feel that we need to start a family. We actually find out our child’s gender on Monday but this is for sure going to put a financial burden on us (already had). We have avoided debt this far because of previous savings but I feel like it is looming around the corner. 2) Closely related is our car situation. We both brought two cars into the marriage, both completely paid off. Well in the last year that we had the cars, we put $5000 in to them to keep them running. We ended up selling my car and now we just have her tiny little fiat 500. That car is way to small for a baby and it keeps having problems. So we are deciding to sell it and with the money we have, we are going to by a 2016 Honda Civic for $12000 with only 9,000 miles on it. We have $9000 to throw down on it now, but we will be going $3000 in debt for it. All this for the sake with the hope we won’t have car problems till at least year 2500 (cause you know Civics never die). We feel like this is a good move.
  18. Day dreaming of wealth you wish you had?? The love of [sheep] is the root of all evil Carborendum
  19. I understand, I just feel that this a problem of language and not if definition. Would you accept it if Instead of saying “false doctrine” we said “doctrine that isn’t doctrine but people think it is”?
  20. There seems to be a break in understanding between people who spend time in church sanctioned and monitored programs and those who do all their own studying and just attend Sunday school. Im currently going through the seminary and institute teaching program and if you ask any of them what doctrine is, they would give you the quote I gave you. My mission president and bishop would say the same thing. I’m not using these examples as an “end all”, but just that those who are closely tied to the lds organization itself all agree on one definition while those who are not have different views. But your comments are not lost on me. I just don’t know how to reconcile them and I’m ok with that. Ezra Taft Bensen says it well “Beware of those who would set up the dead prophets against the living prophets, for the living prophets always take precedence.”
  21. My wife had to get 2 tests done and I had one. In a Weird exchange of events we would be paying $2100 for the tests WITH insurance and $1600 WITHOUT. I ended up not getting my test done and just paid for my wife’s.
  22. Now I know you have similar debates like this in the past. But this view is fundamentally different than views held by our leaders.
