Is there any truth in your eyes or is everything just a belief?
-
That’s true in a world sense. But in context with the the gospel of Jesus Christ, the definition stands
-
“A doctrine is a fundamental, unchanging truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Such truths as Heavenly Father has a body of flesh and bones, baptism is necessary to enter the kingdom of God, and all men will be resurrected are examples of doctrines.” - Gospel Teaching and Learning Manual I found this a few weeks after I posted the thread. Doctrine now seems super simple

Excuse me?? I’m not much for pushing “equality” or getting upset over stereotyping genders... But I will this once for the sake of having an intelligent arguements. I won’t pretend that there are no male doctors that are perverts, but we can’t make blanket statements like this. If you do, then it should extend to gay doctors performing physicals on men, lesbian doctors doing medical examination on women, and anyone who is at all sexually promiscuous in any way at all. And if they do have an innapropriate thought during a medical exam, so what? I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that are addicted to innapropriate things like this that are trying to get out of it. And what does having a woman there do to fix the situation? Your arguements is a matter being appropriate and inappropriate with our bodies. Another woman being there won’t change thoughts. And the situation with the enhancements is not medical as far as I’m concerned I disagree (and agree to some extent). I want to live in a world where I can say body parts, talk about “that time of the month”, and other functions openly without embarrassment (In appropriate situations). When children say thing comfortably in public (like calling body parts what they are) that make adults squirm, I tell myself “That kid is getting raised right”. I get really irritated when an adult uses 3 sentences to say one word because they are afraid to say it out loud. Now I don’t think we should glorify these things either like many feminist approaches. There is a balance, somewhere between glorifying and fearing and we need to find that as a society.

My city has an annual sheep parade where a herd (?) of sheep are brought right down Main Street. It’s a pretty big event here! Regardless, only a few families have all the sheep. That darn 1% >:( WE ARE THE 99!!!

You opened a can of worms with that “art nudity” comment haha. I️ agree with you though. I have never thought nudity to be appropriate even in “art”. Then in forums like these I hear arguements for it and they often times make sense. but as soon as I move on to my next daily activity, I forget what those arguements were cause it just seems so obviously and plainly wrong. Im confusedbon your comment here What do you mean by that? That one gender can maintain the spirit in a conversation when another can’t? So should women not get mammograms? Pap smears? When they are giving birth should I be the one delivering the baby?

Right! Something about stuffing hot, overly butter rolls with mashed potatoes and turkey while sitting around the table with people that beat you too the same old bad jokes you have been telling since you could talk.

But hey! If we are basing laws off of deaths, I’m down for that! According to the CDC: 11,000 forearms deaths (2014) so everything that causes more deaths than that should probably be banned right? tobacoo: 480,000 alcohol: 88,000 cars: 1,300,000 (asirios.org) Ban these too! lets ban terrorism, gangs and drugs too, Those are probably pretty high on the death scale.

This is my question: If they do pass a law to ban guns completely to be owned by the general populace (which seems to be the ultimate desire of the left)... then what?? There are so many guns in the US. People like my family would willingly turn them into whereever they need to... but how many will actually do that. Then that obviously brings up the old arguements “if you make guns illegal, then only criminals will have guns” and as far as gun control working in other countries... that, I imagine, has a lot to do with those countries ALWAYS having gun control laws. It would be so hard to implement them here because there are already boundless amounts of guns among the populace here.

i don’t accept this reasoning. The people that play Christmas music before December are playing the same 2 Albums over and over. Max 5 albums. I myself love Christmas music and have around 5 albums I love. But “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be scary, and a time to eat turkey; a time to give gifts, and a time to buy a new Calandar.

We are all Normans!
-
So theoretically, how many of us have Norman in our blood?
-
No! The Normans! Your a Norman, we are all Normans! except Godless, he is not Norman...
-
Ya but us Normans have an answer for that the apostasy

I like this rebuttal! Christianity, the main opponent to athiesm, has roots in the Middle East, Europe and the USA. Where do we find the most moral, technological and ethically advanced nationals? With the exception of the Middle East, we find them in nations where Christianity flourished! Then That brings up Rome, probably the most advanced nation of its time, but it wasn’t Christian. So obviously they had some progression without the true God being worshipped.

Are you suggesting that all moral, ethical and social improvements were made by only people that believed in God? Even if that were true, belief in god does not mean there is a god. So a fake god was made up, and people started doing good. Are you suggesting that from the atheist view, we are all accidentally miral and ethical people? Anyway, I agree with all of Penn’s quote up until his denial of God and religion. With the condition that it is from an atheist view. The main question seems to be. Do we live in this moral and ethical world with a God, or without? If the answer is “with a god”, the. All good must come from him and without him there can be no good. If the answer is “without a god”, then obviously we became moral and ethical on our own. Now I don’t know how to deal with the idea that we tricked ourselves into believing there is a God and all moral, social and ethical improvements came because of this made up greater being.

I am familiar with Penn, don’t like him haha. but I do not agree with you. From an atheist view, there is no God. Therefore, how could we have come to the place we are now? Look st today’s society and isolate it from all others and ya... I don’t do bad because I will be punished and we can leave it st thatsnd concoide The only reason we don’t do bad is because of laws that prevent it... BUT HOW DID WE GET THERE??? Someone at some point who had an amount of power was like “I don’t want to kill or be killed... I’m ganna make a law against it.” Whether that is a moral idea that was imbedded in him or if it was just for the better of society, it still came about without a god (atheist view). If man naturally wanted to kill, rape, steal, lie, etc... we would have never gotten to where we are now. Look at the economics of it. This would only bring about exclusive governments and no technological growth would never occur, no moral law would ever have been made. But this isn’t the case, so at many points in history, man obviously chose to live morally rather than immorally and there was no God to make them or teach them. They chose to do so by their own means. (again, I’m playing as his advocate and how his quotation actually makes some sense. I do disagree with the assumption hay religious people only do good out of fear of punishment)

I don’t lik comparisons like this. Atheists and Christians are under completely different assumptions. Before we can make comparisons or arguements, you need to agree on rules and standards. The disconnect here is that: atheist assume that our nature has nothing to do with god We know that allvgoodness in our nature is BECAUSE of God. in Penn’s arguements, she is both wrong and right. Right from the atheist standing and wrong from the LDS standing

There is the good ole account when Laman and Lemuel complained about going to get the plates, but didn’t complain when they went to get wives
