  1. My stance has always been with the church. “Do not take the chance of dating nonmembers, or members who are untrained and faithless. A girl may say, ‘Oh I do not intend to marry this person. It is just a “fun” date.’ But one cannot afford to take a chance on falling in love with someone who may never accept the gospel” (Miracle of Forgiveness, 241–42). “Date only those who share your goals and standards...Temple marriage should be your goal...Your chances for a happy and lasting marriage will be far greater if you will date those who are active and faithful in the Church” - https://www.lds.org/new-era/2001/07/qa-questions-and-answers?lang=eng Now obviously who My future children marry is not up to me... I would be openly against it but if it came to it, so would accept them into the family. My sister is seriously dating someone right now who isn’t religious at all and has said that he never wants to get married. I told her that some may say that, but no one says they never want to have sex. She is happy dating this guy, but it won’t last. They will be separated at death and she cannot achieve eternal happiness married to him.
  2. Biggest reason why people don’t believe miracles today Just because you can see how it happened does make it less miraculous. Heal someone with Severe polio in the 1300s and it’s a miracle. Heal someone with polio today and it is not. God follows a set of laws just as we do. I think that that is one of the greatest things about this gospel, that there is law that all must follow. And with law comes explanation. Maybe God taught Joshua and past people of that era how to read solar movement and Joshua used that knowledge to predict an eclipse. God expects the same from us today. If we have tools or knowledge to accomplish something, he expects us to do so so that we may do is work upon the earth. Now I’m not saying this is what happened, just trying to convey that just because we found a reason why or a how, it doesn’t make it less miraculous.
  3. @prisonchaplain did you forget to include the part that it is the only true church?
  4. I live in Utah, I saw a black guy once. He is a great Sunday school teacher You can’t being more minorities into the church if there aren’t any minorities around I also get annoyed with these articles that blame culture in any amount. I feel like the saints are generally a little better than we give them. We tend to be very wrong on this topic.
  5. I'll be one to say that no amount of restrictions will keep anyone from getting what they want. I work in a home for adults with mental disabilities. One of them isn't even allowed to have the internet password and he someone finds ways of viewing it. In a conversation in a YSA ward we had a while back, we talked about how the greatest filter is your own will. Anyone can find porn on a filtered computer, but a person will not view porn if he chooses not to. Harder said than done when the person is addicted. But what I'm saying is that filters are not a viable option. They only help in preventing triggers and unintentional exposures to porn. If anything, it gives the addict added security in lying to the person who set up the filter. For all they know, the filter works perfectly. Anyway. Ill state again what I said above. If you want to beat this with him. You both need to be living the gospel to its fullest. Read the Book of Mormon every day, prayer together and alone every day (MULTIPLE TIMES ). Become fully active in church (Don't just attend, participate ). Go see the bishop if you haven't already. Go back to counseling :)
  6. Keep in mind that any amount of therapy, if not coupled with true repentance, increased activity in the church (I’m assuming you are LDS), daily scripture study, weekly church attendance, and daily family and personal prayer will do little. So whatever you decide, those have to be happening.
  7. In handbook one there are probably many other hidden ordinances and unforgivable curses hidden in there.
  8. So there are two handbooks (generally speaking, there are more). handbook 1 and 2 2 is for all members of the church and 1 is for the bishop. 2: explains the order of the church, how meetings are run, explanations of callings, who can call who to what calling etc. 1: is a how-to of sorts for bishops on how to run the congregation. As mentioned above, it’s a mixture of “do it this way”, “follow the spirit”, “do what brings members close to god”. This is not available to the church membership. Here is handbook 2 https://www.lds.org/handbook/handbook-2-administering-the-church?lang=eng
  9. So I have always been curious about handbook 1 of instruction and wanted to look into, but of course it isn't available to the church general public. I'm possitive if I googled it I could find it in some sort of PDF. But before I decide to do that I want to find out why it is not available to us. Is there a specific reason beyond it not needing to be read by us? Are there some crazy magical spells in there that allow leaders to pierce the souls of the congregation???

  11. We also need to take into account their name. Lets be honest. The names Lynn G Robbins and Ullisses Soares sound far more apostolic than Craig C Christensen.
  12. Go take a shower and then go ask!
  13. It's one of my favorites you should ask for it!
  14. You also tend to hear these "priorities" more when you know you need to repent of something but choose not to. I had a friend who didn't want to serve a mission and complained cause he felt every talk in priesthood session was centered on serving a mission. But anyway. I feel like one that has always been in the back ground is home teaching. And magnifying your callings.
  15. As much as We love America, you are right, our true loyalty lies above. I first internalized this truth when the LGBT succeeded in legalizing marriage. In a conversation with my parents, they talked about that if the government began to spread this legalization toward forcing religious entities to comply, we may be in a position where we would need to defend the temples from men/women seeking to be sealed to their own gender.
  16. As soon as my child is born, I'm telling him he can either keep crying or have my respect.
  17. For some reason Mark Hamill came to mind when I read this xD
  18. Welcome! quick question, why did you come to a Mormon forum to ask this? X) We will gladly provide answers, just curious
  19. Thanks, I have all those same thoughts. And as far as the question, prophet said don't wait to get married so I didn't wait
  20. My wife and I are going to school and may qualify for scholarship housing next year. If we got it, the school would choose what house we are to move into. This house will likely be outside our boundaries. We love our current Ward and I absolutely love my callings. my question is this. How strict are the boundaries? If I love outside the Ward, would I be ok to stay in the Ward? I know on my mission there were a lot of situations where this caused problems and people had to get special permission to change wards. Is it written somewhere that "thou shalt not attend church outside your Ward boundaries"?
  21. I love P-Day! Best day of the week!
  22. I enjoy Elder Callister too he does tend to use a lot of the same anecdotes in his talks. Particularly the use of the idea of an imaginary "critic".
  23. Who knows?? I think I meant stevensen. I had the 70 Steven e snow on my mind I think xD
  24. Of the remaining Apostle, who all do you think will one day be prophets? Oaks? Ballard? Holland? Bednar? Snow? Where do Eyring and Uchtdorf fit in the mix? Who will be the next apostle? Whitney L Clayton? Tad R Callister? Maybe this isn't appropriate, maybe it is, idk...
  25. Old people tend to never hear the old jokes
