I remember looking into this after the topic of temple divorce was brought up and the concern of what happens to the children's seeling. I found the most important seeling is to your spouse which is the most important relationship you have bar the one with God.

I made the decision a while ago to stop believing politicians are evil and the government is corrupt. I may be wrong or I may be right… who knows? But what I do know is that I’m happier and feel a LOT less anxiety

For me I went from thinking liberals were all idiots, to realizing everyone wants the same thing, we just have different beliefs for getting there, to thinking everyone was corrupt and every conspiracy is true, to now choosing to believe everything is awesome and there is no corruption in the government

Fether got a reaction from laronius in Zion - ready or not here we come?
I have heard many time throughout my life that Christ is waiting for us to make Zion before he comes. I’ve also heard the opposite, that he is coming and we need to be ready for him.

Is he waiting for us to be ready? Or are we waiting for him to be ready? No idea. I imagine the latter since that seems to be what scripture suggest.   But I’m not married to that view.
If the prior is true, there either needs to be some sort of mass coming to  Christ or perhaps a removal of the non-valiant and the remaining saints will make up Zion.
As for the faithfulness of each generation, supposedly they get better and better because each generation gets the same messaging it seems.

I came across this quote from George Q Cannon in an article and it got me thinking:
"As a people we are expecting the day to come when Jesus will descend in the clouds of Heaven; but before this day comes we must be prepared to receive him. The organization of society that exists in the heavens must exist on the earth; the same condition of society, so far as it is applicable to mortal beings, must exist here."
    1. To what extent is this true? Is this the purpose of the New Jerusalem, a sufficiently righteous society, or is it required of the Church membership in general, or something in between?
    2. How much progress are we making towards that goal? Is each succeeding generation more righteous than the one before?
I don't have a firm opinion on the first question. I'd like to think that the Church in general was ready to meet him but that sure seems to be a LOOONNGG way off, longer than it seems like it should, at least at the rate we are going, which opinion reveals my attitude about the second question. We often hear of people saying how much better the then upcoming generation is but I don't know if I see it. That's not to criticize the upcoming generation, rather I'm pointing out the faithfulness of previous generations. So I guess my current opinion is that something's got to give. The hastening of the work needs to translate into a hastening of individual righteousness. But is that happening?

Participating is no problem, this issue they have is mot having access to the high blessings and being around teachings that are contrary to their own beliefs.

It’s a quotation of Isaiah 14:21.  Isaiah 14:4 prophesies of a taunting “song of scorn” (“proverb”, as the KJV renders it) that Israel will someday sing over the fallen king of Babylon, the text of which runs from verses 4 through 21.  It’s the Bronze Age equivalent of “your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries”.
Or, in other words:  poetry; not a call for bloodshed.

Absolutely. We need to minister in a Christlike manner. From Mosiah 18:9, We mourn with those that mourn, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, while at the same time standing as witnesses of God on all points.
The doctrine I'm referring to in this instance consists of relying upon Christ to calm and settle "immense feelings" -- which I took from the context to be sorrow and distress. But they could refer to temptation as well, if that is what you meant. After that, the doctrine that God did not make him gay, and then the doctrine that gender, not sexuality, "is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose."

I don’t think David and the many many other LGBTQ saints are looking for doctrinal explanations for what they ought to do. It seems to me that they are in immense pain, have tried everything they can to get through it, and haven’t seen the light.

It seems more to be a cry for help. David himself said that his post was more about getting things off his chest.
I know what the prescribed doctrinal answers are… but I don’t know how to help David, and others in his situation, overcome these immense feelings he is facing. I think the best thing one can do is mourn with those that more and comfort those that stand in need of comfort.

There also seems to be this idea that it is the church’s duty to punish all acts of immorality. Everything from rape down to eating too much food and not exercising.
If the church doesn’t have a corporal punishment for an act, it must be ok to do.

Yeah, the Tribune had an article in the last week or two about it, I think.  (I’d heard about Archuleta and Harley, though Tom Christofferson’s alleged backsliding is a new one to me.)  One wonders what the difference would be between a chaste gay “dating” relationship, versus two straight people who happen to be best friends.
In some ways, the bigger issue is this mentality  of “how far can I indulge these appetites before it becomes a sin?”.  Whether in matters of chastity or honesty or anger or any number of other moral standards—this just isn’t a space we want to be living in.

    Good news, it isn’t 45 minutes. It’s 58 minutes.
This is actually a fairly heated topic right now. David Archuletta, Tom Christofferson, and Stacey Harkey have all announced they will start dating. It seems to be a new frontier that the Latter-day Saint lgbtq community is pushing.

Additionally, BYU removed the “dont participate in homosexual behavior” phrasing from their honor code and there were some professors who felt they could make some commentary on it. This lead to some clarification but not reinstating the phrase in the honor code. Since then there had been a ton more people asking if it is ok to date the same gender as long as you keep the law of chastity (which I always thought any homosexual romantic act was against the LOC but apparently that isn’t widely accepted).
