I dare say you were too focused on your uncomfortableness.  Thoughts are powerful and what you feed grows so how about you try again and focus on the blessings this time?!

What about going to both? Even if you don't go to your ward if it's at the same time as his church, you can just go to another ward instead. Hopefully your husband will see this as a reasonable compromise.

For those who aren't aware - Cleaning the building is one of the things those who've gotten help from the Church should be asked to do in return for the help they've received. You may want to inform the powers-that-be if that doesn't seem to be happening in your unit.

How Church welfare is really supposed to be handled seems to be one of the best kept secrets even though the quotes are out there for everyone to read. It's about helping people maintain a sense of dignity unlike the govt system.

There are rotten apples in every bunch but you are the one who chooses to see what you look for. If you look for racism, discrimination, hypocrisy, etc you'll find it. But if you choose to see the good and those who do try to follow Christ's example, you'll find that too. Also, I think you're making some assumptions as well as projecting which really isn't fair or helpful.

    Welcome, @Shath!
Once upon a time (in a real company), there was a department which was "the problem child".  The employees were arrogant and thought the universe existed to serve them and they shouldn't have to follow the same rules everyone else followed.  They thought other departments should cater to their wishes and thank them for the privilege.  The department manager was replaced multiple times.  Things never improved.  Each manager gradually adopted the attitudes of the employees (rather than turning them around).
This sounds like the area you're describing.  And I have to believe that it's limited to a specific area because:
    a) In all my years in the church and all the wards I've been in, in 4 US states and 1 other country (not on a mission), I've never encountered anything remotely like what you describe.
    b) I've never met a Mormon who described experiences like you describe.
    c) I've heard lots of people who aren't Mormon describe opposite experiences.
None of that is meant to claim or imply that what you describe didn't happen, only that it's not the norm (based on my experience - which isn't the most extensive, but also not the most limited).  It implies that there are serious problems in the region you're describing.  Other posters here (I can think of 2) have described what I would call regional problems (though different from yours).  They're real, and short of massive change-over of the population or an overwhelmingly powerful personality to trigger difficult and painful changes, such problems can continue for generations and corrupt newcomers (like the department I described above).
Now I'm going to say something you may not like.  But I say it in hopes you can recognize a pattern and try to break it.  I've gone and read all the posts you've made on the forum, and there's a pattern in them of starting from a negative assumption (assume the worst until there's overwhelming evidence of positive) - and this is coming from someone who tends to be both skeptical and cynical.  Given what you've written above, this is understandable, but if you can't break it, it will hurt you more than it will ever hurt anyone else (and that approach will never elicit improvement from anyone).  So please break it!  Read some Gordon B. Hinckley stuff - I swear he must have been the most positive soul on the planet in the past few decades.

Sorry for your troubles. Honestly, I'd be quite bugged if he were spending money on booz when I had to go back to work for financial reasons. That said, I suggest supporting him by making sure he has time for something that is a better way to cope (ie running, basketball with the guys, etc). That's all I got right now but will chime in if something else comes to mind.

    Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I've been searching for a proper Latter Day Saint forum where I can connect with other members of the church! I want to be a blessing to folks here by maybe being honest with my opinions, and offering friendship and prayer. I am the husband of the most excellent wife in the world, and I love my church so much. For work, i help senior citizens and developmentally disabled Americans, and I'm also an avid author, and philanthropist helping the inner city learn about Genealogy! I look forward to getting to know you all!

    Kenneth

Thank you, and you are right, I will be patient with him, I just want everyone in the whole world to feel and know what I know now.  It's the most peaceful feeling I've ever had, everyone should feel like this.

I cannot tell you how happy I am for you that you've had this experience.  Now that you've had one such experience, you can combine them (heart and mind, feeling and understanding the Spirit) and it will be much easier, I think.
Just don't lose sight of the fact that Christ already did this.  Love your husband.  Don't get frustrated or impatient.  Just as you needed (and will continue to need) just the right experience with just the right people at just the right time, so will he.  Help him to have those experiences and meet those people.

Since I have been investigating the LDS church, members (and you lot!) keep telling me that something will happen and I will feel the spirit and things will change.
As most of you know I like things to make sense, I like to study things and gain knowledge and understanding of truth that way.  I know that is not how most LDS members come to find the truth of the Book of Mormon.
Anyway, for all of you who know someone like me, PLEASE get them to read this very simple article currently featured on this website.
    https://mormonhub.com/blog/faith/defending-the-faith/book-of-mormon-hoax/
I actually cried while reading it.  I don't know if I have a complete testimony for the church or all its teachings, but I know one thing.
Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and the Book of Mormon is true.
Thank you all so much for helping (and putting up with) me.  I feel very happy and full of hope.
Now I just have to save my husband!

One of the most misinterpreted passages of scripture is:  “Judge not, that ye be not judged.  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."  -- Matthew 7:1-2

The Joseph Smith Translation reads:  "Now these are the words which Jesus taught his disciples that they should say unto the people: Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged; but judge righteous judgment. For with what judgment ye shall judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."  Matthew 7:1-3
The Inspired Version instructs us to judge righteous judgments.
Judging if a person is worthy of marrying is a righteous judgment.  It should involve a lot of prayer and fasting in my opinion.
