  1. Having a memory of all of the prophets from David O. McKay to the present, I’d have to say that President Hinckley has been my favorite. I really liked his positive attitude and good humor. I believe it was he who said when asked if it was okay for women to wear makeup, “even an old barn looks better with a little paint!” President Hinckley was also ambitious and got a lot done. Including the building of dozens of temples and the conference center. He was also very good with the media and I believe represented the church very well and brought a lot of positive publicity and goodwill to the church. President Nelson is remarkable in my view as being very energetic at such an old age and for making remarkable changes in a very short time. With President Monson I enjoyed his talks and stories early on but it seems that as he aged he sort of slowed down and we didn’t hear much from him.
  2. I believe that using the Bible timeline people estimate the fall to have been something like 5000 to 7000 years ago. Much more recent than bones that are said to be 10,000 or more years old.
  3. I also think the opposite. There are doom and gloom prophets and there are those like president Hinckley who always said things like “just do a little better.”
  4. I am a fitness enthusiast and it is my opinion that being overweight and out of shape are contrary to the spirit of the word of wisdom if not the law itself. However you pretty much never hear anything spoken about this. Perhaps doing so would implicate too many people in church leadership. I remember hearing President Hinckley say “I don’t exercise, I get my exercise going to the funerals of men who do.” I think that not caring for our bodies is showing disrespect for one of the greatest gifts God has given us in mortality.
  5. No I wasn’t teasing I seriously wonder if English is not your first language. You really didn’t understand my plain English.
  6. You just posted a great example of typical forum nit picking. I would be rather amazed if you don’t realize you are proving the point I made on another thread where the discussion turned to the poor conduct of members of the forum. You are trying really hard to twist words and sentences to make what I said untrue. Trying really hard to bash another forum member. You couldn’t be a more perfect example of the despicable behavior I expounded on in that thread. I really like when people prove me right. I post an article titled “Mormons free to back gay marriage on social media, LDS apostle reiterates” and you complain about what I said about the article when you know very well that the article makes the point that it’s okay to publicly support gay marriage so long as you don’t attack the church or pull people away from the church. If I said that this page is white you’d say no it’s a very light shade of gray. You go out of your way to contradict anything and everything I say and like I said you exactly prove right my comments of the poor conduct of some of the people here. I suppose you get some sort of perverse thrill from your behavior.
  7. From the article headline. “Mormons free to back gay marriage on social media, LDS apostle reiterates” From the article “In an interview Friday with KUTV in Salt Lake City, Elder D. Todd Christofferson said that individuals in the 15 million-member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would be in trouble only for "supporting organizations that promote opposition or positions in opposition to the church's." Backing marriage equality on social media sites, including on Facebook or Twitter, "is not an organized effort to attack our effort," Christofferson said in the interview, "or our functioning as a church." He was asked about Latter-day Saints who support same-sex marriage privately among family and friends or publicly by posting entries on Facebook, marching in pride parades or belonging to gay-friendly organizations such as Affirmation or Mormons Building Bridges? Can they do so without the threat of losing their church membership or temple privileges? "We have individual members in the church with a variety of different opinions, beliefs and positions on these issues and other issues," Christofferson said. " ... In our view, it doesn't really become a problem unless someone is out attacking the church and its leaders — if that's a deliberate and persistent effort and trying to get others to follow them, trying to draw others away, trying to pull people, if you will, out of the church or away from its teachings and doctrines." I don’t know what article you read but I think your comment reaffirms my earlier comment about “people” on the forum.

  9. Elder Christofferson made the statement that it is okay for church members to voice their support for gay marriage on social media. Well some time ago when I said here that I support the right of gay marriage I was told by various people that I should be released from my calling, lose my temple recommend or be excommunicated.
  10. The latter is what seems to happen a lot here. I don’t suppose people would be nearly as eager to criticize in person.
  11. A couple other bits of counsel that come to mind are no tattoos and no multiple piercings.
  12. What’s interesting to me is how people pick and choose which teachings of the prophet they are going to follow and which they are going to reject. In other words it seems that people follow the prophet so long as it doesn’t affect how they want to live. Some people also seem to criticize others for rejecting certain counsel while they themselves are rejecting other counsel as though they are the ones who decide what is important and what is not.
  13. The resurrection puzzles me because while I can understand conception and birth, I don’t understand how the resurrection will take place. As you say, somehow the body will be reformed out of some sort of matter and will no longer be subject to death. How that works I have no clue.
  14. I would say that my wife and I created the bodies of our children through a process that was handed down from our Heavenly Parents through Adam and Eve. However the part of placing the spirit into the body I would suppose is Gods part in this creation of our children. I suppose this would be the breath of life part. I would say that Eve is the mother of the human race upon this planet.
  15. I believe that Adam and Eve were both born of our heavenly parents and to me this solves all of the problems. It also fits right in with the quote I posted of Brigham Young.
  16. As I see it we are all created from the dust of this earth. Everything on this earth is created from the dust of the earth or another words the elements of the earth. Everything we eat is from the earth every cell in our body is from the earth. There is no part in our physical body which is not of this earth, except perhaps the genetic code. How this worked with Adam and Eve as I see it, and this is of course my opinion though it’s based on teachings of early church leaders, is that our immortal heavenly parents came to this earth to the garden of Eden and partook of the dust of this earth or in other words the food of this earth and created the immortal bodies of Adam and Eve in the same manner that we create our children from the dust of the earth. Brigham Young said, “And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness.... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them." I believe that the declaration made in these two scriptures is literally true. God has made His children like Himself to stand erect, and has endowed them with intelligence and power and dominion over all His works and given them the same attributes which He Himself possesses. He created man, as we create our children; for there is no other process of creation in heaven, on the earth, in the earth, or under the earth, or in all the eternities, that is, that were, or that ever will be. (Journal of Discourses, 11:122)
  17. Interesting story. I believe Adam had a belly button because I believe he was born of an immortal woman.
  18. I agree with you except that I would add that I am open to the idea that other human like beings and dinosaurs and everything we have evidence of lived upon this earth at a time before Adam and Eve and then the earth was cleansed and renewed and became the earth Adam and Eve were placed on and as such Adam was the first of all flash upon the earth as it became in the days of the garden of Eden.
  19. I believe this to be true in that I believe our Heavenly Parents came to Earth and created Adam and Eve.
