  1. Hello all, I'm still reading the Book of Mormon for the first time to know for myself if it is true. Anyway, I re-read the testimony of the 3 and 8 witnesses in the introduction the other day and it really started hitting home as to what that means. So I started wondering about these people, so I started looking for references and information about them and would love any links to articles or church information about these people (please only mormon approved information, I'm not interested in non-mormon websites I don't trust them) I found this article but anything else you can give me to read would be amazing and very much appreciated. https://history.lds.org/article/doctrine-and-covenants-three-witnesses?lang=eng
  2. @estradling75 I prayed and then I actually found the doctrine and read it. It seems to be more about being married for eternity and what marriage actually is and very little about multiple wives. More about restoration of the priesthood? And it doesn't really give the impression that everyone is to do it either and that more will be revealed on this matter, which I guess it was, because the church doesn't allow polygamy anymore. After actually reading it I don't think there is anything to worry about, but I can understand why it would still be allowed for certain people in the celestial kingdom, after all you are married for eternity and the people that did practice polygamy can't really ditch their wives in heaven. Its actually quite beautiful when you read it, I like section 19 & 20 the best Doctrine and Covenants 132 19 And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—then shall it be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, that he shall commit no murderwhereby to shed innocent blood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever. 20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.
  3. Thank you for your answer. So its still mormon doctrine, I think thats going to be an issue for me, I need to pray about this
  4. Sorry more stupid new person questions/comments/probably wrong observations! I dont understand this, I thought mormons didn't believe in multiple wives anymore so why would it be ok in heaven? Good thing God gave us free will right! I'm sure your wedding will be beautiful xxx Just saw how old the OP was . I'm pretty sure she's married now! LOL it would still be great if someone could respond to me, having my the possibility of polygamy in heaven, well it is certainly a very stressful and concerning thought for me. I'd like to understand this
  5. If she is honouring your beliefs then it would make sense for you to honour hers. I'm sure you believe a lot of things that she finds weird or strange. Just make sure the two of you wear really long, really thick, really ugly full length pyjamas!
  6. Thanks that does help explain it to me, but one question though, what happens if you die while you are excommunicated? Like say you were temple going, happy LDS member, did something that got you excommunicated for a time period and ended up dying in that time period of excommunication? Do you still get to go to the highest level of heaven?
  7. I'm new to all this LDS stuff so forgive me if I sound really uneducated and stupid! Firstly I am so sorry you and your husband went through all this, and I commend you both on sticking it out and making your marriage stronger instead of taking the easy path and walking away. I think its awesome that you worked through it and stayed together. Is is seriously a possibility that you could be excommunicated for having an affair? Really? I don't understand why the church would throw you out completely, I mean repentance is one thing but excommunication? Is that really a possibility?
  8. I didn't mean to insult you at all, I only meant I can understand why you are not being 100% honest about tithing so you can keep your temple recommend and therefore, keep your wife happy and not put any unnecessary strain on your marriage. I meant no offence at all, Im sorry if I said the wrong thing
  9. A lot of people stay in various religious groups and participate in things they do not believe in anymore for the sake of their marriage. I can understand your point of view and your reasons for doing this.
  10. I'll have to get a copy of it, I'm just learning too, I'm reading The Book of Mormon but I don't have any other mormon books, I shall definitely order this one
  11. Thanks, I didn't mean to make God sound manipulative, that's not what I meant at all, sorry if it came off that way. I never thought of Lucifer having agency as well, makes sense
  12. I am new to this so I could be WAY off and please correct me! I always thought that Lucifer was 'set up' by Heavenly Father, he knew how Lucifer would act, he also knew it was necessary for Eve and Adam to eat the fruit of the tree so they could 'be fruitful and multiply' but he wanted them to have their own free agency in the decision, so I always thought of it as Heavenly Father outsmarting Lucifer and using him as a patsy so to speak, to get what needed to be done, done. Please correct me where I am wrong here so I can learn. Thank you
  13. I paid for my Childs tertiary education (and the car he needed), I didn't want him to start his working life with a debt, I could afford to pay for it, so I did. I understand not every family has the means to do so. The most important thing is to help your child achieve their dreams the best way you can.
  14. I loved reading all your stories, thank you all so much, its really encouraging. I adore how those raised in the mormon church still consider themselves converts, it really speaks to my heart and I think its a wonderful way to approach faith, not just accepting everything because its what you were born into.
  15. I was hoping some of you would be willing to share your conversion stories with me? I've only just started reading The Book of Mormon so I'm not ready for conversion yet but I would really like to hear how joining the church has changed your life, how you knew it was the true church and what its like living a mormon life. Did your family join with you (or joined later after you?). Were you in another faith when you found the mormon church? Anything you are willing to share with me about your conversion story. I appreciate all who reply Thank you
  16. That's awesome, thank you so much
  17. I'm not a member of the LDS church and I have only just started reading The Book of Mormon, I'm only on 1 Nephi still, but I agree with you, you FEEL spiritually connected to something wonderful when you read The Book of Mormon. I'm just reading a chapter or two a day, every day in the morning. I'm really enjoying it so far
