DennisTate reacted to anatess2 in I am interested in baptism as a Latter day Saint but.....
There's one basic requirement to baptism - That you believe in God, His Son, the Holy Ghost, and that you believe that the restored gospel is true and the president of the LDS Church holds the sole authority of all the keys of the priesthood.
So, my family are Catholics so I would attend Catholic Mass once in a while especially for special services like a special mass dedicated to the eternal repose of my father, that we hold on his death anniversary, his birthday, and on All Souls Day.  But, even as I attend these masses, I still affirm the truth of the restored gospel and the authority of President Nelson and not the teachings of the Catholic Church that is contrary to the LDS Church and the authority of the Pope.
So if, in your ambassadorship, you can't affirm the authority of the LDS Church even as you visit a Jewish synagogue, you wouldn't be qualified for baptism.  Make sense?

Dennis I would set up an appointment with missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  They can teach you more about the restored Gospel of Christ.  If you would like to contact them go to this link:

Dennis, let me ask you... where do you think the value of $500 comes from?  What gives it the trade value equivalent to a specific basket of goods?

To me, because it will make me feel validated. Also, it will be a windfall if there's a cash component.

There is no one still alive in Canada or the USA that was involved back then - What is the point of an apology and to who???

DennisTate reacted to Traveler in Foreign interference in our government?
I am not a fan of Trump.  I do not believe if Trump is impeached, it is the end of our republic democracy – I think I could endure it.  But there is much more that concerns me about all this.  If I wanted to conquer this nation and people and control this Country’s economy – what would I do?
The best way to conquer is to first divide.  If I was a foreign power – influencing an election would not be an important goal.  The most important influence would be to fuel a political division.  If there was influence in an election – it would have as the primary goal to divide the voters and create any possible faith (support) in those elected.
If any foreign government(s) are attempting to influence anything in this country – it is succeeding in dividing the country and convincing the citizens that nothing in the government (elected or bureaucratic) can be trusted.  I wonder - if our country is facing the greatest crisis of it short history?  Even greater than any war fought?
The question is not so much who is right or who is wrong - the question is - How will we unite such divided political agendas.

Canada owes us much more than a mere apology. Canada owes us reparations! I think $2 trillion is sufficient. For now.

There has been speculation on money that really is only tentatively based on real world goods and instead is basically only found electronically or via statements.  In otherwords, money that does not exist FAR exceeds actual resources that money is based upon.
It would be a dark day if/when the imaginary money falls in regards to real hard assets, at which point I'd imagine the collapse would be far greater than even the great depression.

Yes..... although we have attempted to be good neighbours.... our Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau made a colossal error back in 1974 that I believe was used to impose highly unethical central banking policy on the USA.

Here is a statement that Latter day Saints and Jews and Noahides in Canada, America, Israel, Australia and New Zealand may well begin to cooperate on.......
in some important ways......... One way I am thinking of is turning deserts green.......  large scale experiments related to longevity is another.....
and bringing the remains of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov from Uman in the Ukraine to somewhere in Israel is a potential catalyst to all this.....
"And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." (Genesis 11)
I don't think that Canada is supposed to join America.... but that is an option for the province of Alberta that may well get a great deal of discussion over the coming months and years.

Alberta leaving Canada... and joining America....  is headline catching information that is for certain..... and I am hoping that a possible remedy to all this may be worked out between Alberta, Utah, Israeli Breslovian Chassidic Jews, and Latter day Saints in Australia and New Zealand.... to get this all started.......????

This is not going to be so easy but I do believe that somehow or another Isaiah 45 is being fulfilled all around us in many ways and on many levels.  Captives are somehow being freed.... and this is awesome to see!

If you Canadians do decide to apologize, try to use words other than "soorey".  We'll need to accept the apology graciously, and that's hard to do when you're chuckling.

I have a lot of respect for the Queen, but she sure seems to have a pretty useless set of offspring.  Charles, methinks, is going to be a disaster.  William seems to be a stand-up guy, and seems to have married reasonably well (other than the whole modeling-underwear-in-her-college-days unpleasantness); otherwise I’d be quite content to just let the monarchy end with Elizabeth II.

Curiously enough, "back in the day" kings (and probably queens too, though I don't suppose they advertised it quite as widely) had personal butt-wipers. The king's butt-wiper was called the Groom of the Stool, and despite what you might expect it was the job everybody in the palace wanted. The advantage was that you got to be alone with the king, and you could tell him who you thought ought to get "the chop" without having them interrupt you!

My 2nd-born is my favorite son.  My 1st-born is my mini-me, he has no use for titles such as these.
My 2nd-born will have the responsibility of housing me and wiping my butt when I get too old to do it myself.  That’s the duty of being the favorite son.
Prince Andrew is the favorite son.  Prince Charles is going to be King and has his own set responsibilities.  Andrew gets to indulge his mother.

I'm not going to say anything about Epstein, or if Randy Andy (as they used to call him) did anything naughty in his house, or on his island, or anywhere else. I don't know whether he did or not, and I've no way of finding out, so I'm not going to talk about it.
What does bother me though is the way everyone on TV keeps banging on about how he's the Queen's "favourite son". How anyone knows that either I don't know, but ideally, a good mother doesn't have a favourite son/daughter. She loves all her sons and daughters exactly the same.
Of course, we're all only human and some of us are bound to love some of our kids more than others - but that's a fault us. It's something we should strive to avoid.
All this "Queen's favourite son" stuff is basically saying: "Yah! Boo! The nasty old Queen's a horrible favouritist!"
    Which isn't very nice!

DennisTate reacted to mordorbund in Non-Jerusalem Jewish Temple
I was recently thinking about some passages in Josephus' The Antiquities of the Jews that talk about a Jewish temple in Heliopolis, Egypt (13.3.1-2 & 13.10.4). Apparently, the Onion temple (named after Onias who built it) was patterned after the Jerusalem temple (I estimate it's about 100 BC), had a course of Levites and priests operating it, and was perceived as a fulfillment of Isaiah 19:19.
Do Jews view this temple as a valid temple accepted by the Lord (or at least acceptable to the Lord)? Or is this viewed as an apostate temple?

    Hmm...isn't Sulu the Navigator?
It would seem to me that, if nothing else, Sulu would also have an idea of where they were headed for Shore Leave.
Perhaps we missed the initial statement by him that they were headed to that Planet...and this was more of a reinforcement of him knowing where they were going backed by popular consent rather than just everyone thinking that way.
Evil Spock was just out of the Loop?
Logically, it would seem Captain Kirk is in Command (as Evil Spock was at the Science Station rather than the Captain's Chair).  Thus, it would be Kirk and the Navigator who would know where they were headed.  As Sulu is flying the ship, I'd imagine he knows where they are going.  Thus, the chances of them going where he thinks they are going is far more logical an assumption than to say he is flying the ship with no idea where to fly it, and flying at random to a random location.
Whether this reinforces his idea that they are flying to the Planet he thinks they are flying to for leave or not is left to our own ignorance as we do not know how far this leave is off at this point.  If it is there next location, they should by flying to it currently, at which Sulu would know where they are going.   Thus the appeal to the masses on this is not simply just relying on their ideas, but also to reinforce that he is not the only one that knows where they are going.
On the otherhand, if it is some time off, then Sulu's guess is probably just as good as Spocks as it is the Captain's prerogative to decide where they go, and Spock is not the Captain yet.  As both Sulu and Spock would be at the Senior Officer's meetings I'd imagine they both would have an equal amount of knowledge on where they were going.  They could both be in the dark, however, Sulu would be the one given the command to fly to the recreational spot they will have leave as long as he remains the one flying the ship.
Thus, regardless of Spock's logic, Sulu will probably have a better idea of where they will spend their leave than Spock will?
