'The day before yesterday', basically the equivalent of the Spanish 'anteayer'

snow_white reacted to Connie in What's the last book you read?
Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson was enjoyable. Not sure I would recommend it for beginners, but it makes for a great review if you are already familiar with the concepts.
Utopia by Thomas More was interesting. I definitely wouldn't want to live there!
Through His Eyes: Rethinking What You Believe About Yourself by Virginia Pearce (one of Gordon B. Hinckley's daughters) was great and very thought provoking.
Power to Become: Spiritual Patterns for Pressing Forward with a Steadfastness in Christ by David A. Bednar is fantastic! The entire series is great. Highly recommend.

snow_white reacted to NeuroTypical in Difference between 1st and 2nd Councilors
I've been Executive secretary or some sort of clerk for five or six bishops. The best answer I have, is counselors are there to share the bishop's workload in whatever ways make sense to them all. Usually, the bishop is the most experienced or mature in the gospel, then the 1st counselor, then the 2nd counselor. But not always. One of them will be better with the youth, one will be better with scheduling, one at keeping people on track at meetings, one at understanding and connecting with people. All of them love the ward members - I've yet to see an exception to that one.
It's cool to watch the personalities. My current bishopric is made up of a chemistry teacher, an ER room trauma surgeon, and a used car dealer. They have such different approaches to the gospel, but they work so well together and support each other it's just fun to watch them.

Well done you.
I am still in the procrastination bandwagon. My excuse being that after summer break I am back at work teaching and its MANIC. Just about keeping my head above water but give it a couple of weeks (she says optimistically) and I will make time

snow_white reacted to prisonchaplain in Starbucks Pumpkin Spice
Across the nation and around the world excitement builds each fall, as Starbucks announces the return of Pumpkin Spice. Of course, most order it as a latte. However, are those here who order non-coffee versions of the flavor? If so, what do you order, how does it taste, and does your enthusiasm run just as high as it does for those whom "WoW" is just an exclamation?
-- And no, Starbucks did not pay me to start this string.

snow_white got a reaction from Sunday21 in Picking up people at the side of the road
Picking up is best if say you are with somebody else in the car and the stranger is alone. Basically he needs to be outnumbered.

snow_white got a reaction from Lindy in Daughter wants her belly button pierced
Lol I wanted my lower lip pierced when I was a teenager, good thing I got over that quickly! 😬 You can tell her that you need to think about it or something to delay it. This way you 1.don't make her sad/angry and 2. you give her time to lose interest ; because this is the kind of thing that teenagers forget quickly 😁

The kind on DVD? I love Suzanne Deason and Rodney Yee's Yoga DVD's. I sometimes will pop one in after the kids are in bed, they're so relaxing and yet invigorating at the same time.

snow_white reacted to zil in I miss my book collection
Welcome, @snow_white!
There is nothing like a physical book - far better than the electronic, especially when the goal is to read for pleasure.
If you didn't know, Amazon have a feature where you can get some electronic books for free or cheaper than usual if you bought the physical book through Amazon. If you can't find details on their site, I can look up the link later today when I get home. Not as good as paper, but nice to not have to re-purchase books you already own(ed).

snow_white reacted to JonnieZ in Swimming
Though health and fitness does not get a lot of attention, I thought I would talk about swimming. I started about four months ago. What a "revelation"! Growing up in the Sacramento area and we swam all summer. However, I have started lap swimming. I used to suck wind bending over to tie my shoes. Not anymore. Good stuff.
