To learn to love God and our brothers and sisters.
To develop a mind that understands the work of God and a spirit/heart willing to accept His invitation to join Him in that work, both in mortality and thereafter.

Here’s the post Grunt was responding to when he made his heroin analogy.  I’m willing to accept his explanation of what he believes was the context of his response, acknowledging that a few of us read the response with the heroin analogy and didn’t understand it in the same context he described.
In fact, I understood Gator’s comment above about introducing children to, and not sheltering children from, the basic beliefs of other religion to include, or even be a direct reference to, the kind of spiritual discussions with our brothers and sisters of other faiths that Grunt says he endorses and participates in.
I’m not looking to make anyone defensive, only to understand and be understood.

I think the Trump and the animosity are a hiccup while we sort out our tribalist behaviors into a more constructive path. I think the society and system can withstand the pressure and adapt in a constructive way.

I’d suggest introducing children to God and Jesus Christ rather than to religion.

Comparing other religions to shooting heroin?  Ouch.
God commanded all His children to share the Gospel.  Which is why when someone tries to share their faith with me, I try to be respectful, find common ground and build on the good that they have in their faith.  After all, all they are doing is acting on the light they have.
I trust that our children, in seeing our willingness to openly, and respectfully, discuss faith with others (which would include being willing to gain a basic understanding of the tenets of that faith) would feel a spirit of love towards God’s children and our brothers and sisters.

My response was intended to be nuanced.  Let me expound, briefly.  If asked by the Savior, “what seek ye?”, a parent could answer, “l want my children to be active in the Church.”  Or could answer “l want my child to know and be led by their Heavenly Father and their Savior.”
l suggest accomplishing the latter will result in the former being true as well, while accomplishing the former doesn’t ensure the latter.

I teach my children how I was taught. Simple truths and example. My mom and dad joined the church while dad was in the navy.  It changed their lives so much. My parents had very rough childhoods. They are the only ones in their families to break the cycle of abuse and alcoholism.
My parents set great examples for me.  When questioned on if the church was true, I stumbled.  Then I knew it was true because  my father knew it was.  I was a young 15 year old and that was the start of finding my own testimony.  I set out to find what I believed with the help of my parents.  I was never told what to believe. I was taught what my parents believe to be true.
Questions were answered.  It was never this is what the church believes.  It was this is what I believe.  I was taught much of the gospel in a barn waiting for a calf or foal to be born.  I was taught in how they lived the gospel. Things that they never knew I saw. I am thankful for my parents.

    Im confused by your statement.
We are responsible for teaching our children.
It is NOT the church that saves us though.   It is the Savior, His ordinances, and our compliance.

You are both sweat and funny but quite different from my wife.  I am not allowed to give my wife anything that can be worn (unless she specifically says - "You can buy this").  And anything centered around me would not be allowed - the poster would be in the garbage faster than the wrapping paper.  I think the worse gift ever from me was - but I have to give a back story.  When we lived in Seattle life was very busy for both of us.  She had a flat tier late at night on the freeway with three very small kids - only to discover that the spare tire was missing.  It was a wet, cold and rainy night - not a happy event for her.  This was about a month and a half before Christmas - So for Christmas I got her a brand new spare tire for her car.  It was 5 years before I was allowed to even shop for her with a list she made.
Sometimes setting goals just does not work.  For at least 40 years I have tried to get a speeding ticket on my bicycle to frame and hang in my office. A few years back I was having a fantastic riding year.  I was getting PR's on almost every ride - it was also the last year I got a KOM - BTW KOM's are very difficult to get - my son that rides semi-pro has never gotten one and it ticks him off that his old aging dad has had a few. (but I have never been able to keep any for more than a day or two before some young buck takes it away - by more than a few seconds - with one exception that was taken by only a second.)  Back to the speeding ticket - that year I went through a radar trap 20 miles/hour over the speed limit (according to my bike computer).  The cop was by the side of the road with radar gun in hand pointed straight at me and as I passed by - he gave me a thumbs up and smiled.  What kind of cop does that?
Sometimes all our efforts are not good enough and despite our best - things just do not turn out as we hoped for or planned.  And my wife - that never in all our years - ever gets discouraged or gives up -- always says, "Stop focusing on things that really don't matter and just enjoy the ride and the moment."  Srug! - I am trying; really hard.  Maybe if I could just try a little tiny bit harder next time?  Then the wife says to me - "You are already doing better be thankful and realize that what you suck at is in thinking it is important to be even better."
One last thing - I hope everybody is having a better year than me and that this year your hearts will be full of gratitude and thanks - even if you did not reach all the goals and fell short at accomplishing what you planned and strive for.  And most of all - I hope you all have someone in your life like my wife is to me - that will give you a hug and kiss and love you anyway.  Crap - and this reminds me that I need to try harder to return back a little more of the goodness and love she gives me.
