  1. The only mention I found was in an institute manual In chapter 19 (Eternal Life), it begins with Caution: Exercise caution while discussing the doctrine of having our calling and election made sure. Avoid speculation. Use only the sources given here and in the student manual. Do not attempt in any way to discuss or answer questions about the second anointing.
  2. Maybe you are watching FoxNews too much? See this.
  3. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Do you believe that? Ignore that question... you already answered it.
  4. If my definition of what salvation means is correct, then I would say the BoM and Bible agree. If salvation means something else, and the BoM clarifies it, I would be interested to know what clarification it is referring to. Thank you.
  5. Oh well ... I can't help you with your conspiracy theory. It seems to be a common theme with some of my recent posts . Talk about bearing false witness against your neighbour. I'll keep asking questions on the forum but I don't expect any meaningful reply from you 🙂
  6. Is that normal for you to make false claims about me or anyone else on this forum? Pete
  7. Pages 137-138 - Perhaps family members could read Mosiah 4:9–12 and identify phrases that help build their faith in God. Then they could write down these phrases and place them around the home as reminders. Mosiah 5 to 6:1-2 is rather confusing. After a sermon by King Benjamin in chapter 5, 5:5 says the people were willing to enter a covenant with God. 5:7 confirms what is mentioned in verse 5 ("And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters". Then 6:1-2 contradicts 5:5-7, for only little children had entered into a covenant with God. Can someone clear this up? Pete
  8. Yes. Christ saved us while we were still in our sins. Do you believe this?
  9. Yes, but it did not explain how the Book of Mormon clarifies what salvation means. Do you know?
  10. Salvation - being saved through faith in the atonement of Christ. Are you able to explain how the Book of Mormon clarifies what salvation means as the manual said?
  11. What does salvation (equal to being saved) mean to me? I can sum it up in one verse - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". Some translations have eternal life. I believe I have eternal life the moment I am saved by faith in His atonement.
  12. For my definition of salvation, I would pick these words from the 1998 Ensign. "As I understand what is meant by the good Christians who speak in these terms, we are “saved” when we sincerely declare or confess that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior." What I didn't understand from the manual was how the Book of Mormon clarifies what salvation means. Maybe you can assist. Pete
  13. I had some observations and questions about these few parts. Easter The ancient Apostles were bold in their testimonies of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection. Millions believe in Jesus Christ and strive to follow Him because of their words recorded in the Bible. Yet some might wonder, if Jesus Christ is the Savior of the whole world, then why were His eyewitnesses limited to a handful of people concentrated in one small region? I suppose the same thing could be said about the Book of Mormon. Why did Jesus limit his witness to only those in the land of the Nephites instead of the lands which would be known as Canada or Argentina? Did the author of this lesson not realize that Jesus' eyewitnesses (in the Bible) would be travelling to other non- Jewish regions to spread the gospel after Christ's resurrection? Why did God, prior to Christ's birth, choose to only deal with the descendants of Jacob as a nation instead of any other nation around the world (like China or Japan)? The Book of Mormon stands as an additional, convincing witness that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, "manifesting himself unto all nations" (title page of the Book of Mormon) and offering salvation to all who come unto Him. In addition, this second witness also clarifies what salvation means. How does the Book of Mormon clarify what salvation means? Encourage family members to imagine what it would have been like to feel His wounds (see 3 Nephi 11:14–15) or to be one of the children He blessed (see 3 Nephi 17:21). If you were back in time amongst the Nephites and Jesus invited you to touch him and feel his wounds, would you have declined and said "It's not necessary Jesus. I believed you before I saw you. I don't have to see you and feel you to believe you"? Pete
  14. How do you interpret Revelation 19:19-20?
  15. What does it mean God the Father has given us the divine birth?
  16. I agree. They did an update when they found the earth was not flat.
  17. I heard of this line of reasoning before. I informed my evolutionist buddy (who believes in the Big Bang) that I could no more believe in that explosion causing all life to appear than I could believe a tornado blowing through a junk yard could produce a 747 airplane. Another expression I heard - if humans came from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes? 🙂
  18. Leaders, speakers, musicians, choirs, technicians and others assigned to assist with general conference will participate in all five sessions at the Conference Center in Salt Lake, but the public will not be admitted to the building. Will the choir practice safe-distancing?
  19. Looks like we are back to where it all started - home churches.
  20. My thought is that I don't get the impression God wanted Adam and Eve to eat from that forbidden tree but provided all the other trees they could eat from. Is there a reason why you always use G-d instead of God? 🙂
  21. I had a question on this part: 91 - Note that Jacob also addressed the practice of having more than one wife. What do you find in Jacob 2:23–30 that helps you understand why the Lord has, in limited situations, commanded His people to practice plural marriage? How does He feel about those who do so without His authorization? I find another example (Doctrine and Covenants 132:34-35) where God is said to have commanded someone to practice plural marriage (Abraham with Hagar). How was Ishmael born after the flesh while Isaac was born after the spirit (Galatians 4:23,29)? Pete
  22. Why did God not want them to eat from the forbidden tree and gain that knowledge?
  23. I'm confused by your ideas about something being literal as opposed to something being symbolic. You said the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil is symbolic of something. Do you believe it was literal fruit from a literal tree? If no, what does symbolic fruit represent to you? thanks
  24. They had knowledge and ability to know how to obey or disobey God's commandment not to eat. What do you mean by 'they had no knowledge or intelligence'? If you are asking me from a Book of Mormon perspective, I do not know. If you are asking me from a Bible perspective, I would say that the Tree of Life, the forbidden tree, and all the other trees in the garden are not symbolic of anything in my opinion.
  25. Eve's first choice was to obey or disobey God's command 'not to eat' from the forbidden tree. When she was deceived, her choice then expanded to 'do I believe God or Satan?' Even in our society, we make many choices even though the devil is trying to deceive us. This does not make choice/agency less valid. Do you have a scripture to indicate what you mean? It seems you are criticizing God for his actions because he has foreknowledge. But what kind of human parent are you if you want to bring children into this world knowing full well that your child will suffer along the way? The Cherubim were not placed to guard the Tree of Life for the salvation of Adam and Eve. They were placed there to prevent them from eating from it after they had eaten from the forbidden tree. You are confusing the role of the Cherubim with the role of Jesus.
