    Wow.  I just realized that I haven't seen any TV or movie in a while.  But just this last weekend, the little lady and I went to see Dune Part II.
    It was interesting to compare it to the 1984 version and contrast them both with the book.  Empress had not seen the earlier version, nor red the book.  So, it was nice to have a captive audience for me to share my thoughts about it all.

    Some people wonder why the three degrees were not preached in earlier dispensations.

    @keeperofthegate,
    I hope you didn't take my earlier post as a criticism of your parenting.  Sometimes you can do everything right, and still someone exercises their agency in a manner that would be completely counter to what you taught them.
    My in-laws have had two interesting sons go off the deep end.
    ****************************
    One BIL was fairly rebellious.  No matter how faith-centered their home was (and believe me when I say that this family is about as faith centered as you can get) this son simply did not believe any of it.  He went along with his parents as long as he lived in the house.  But as soon as he turned 18 he couldn't leave fast enough.
    Then there was one day where he and his ex-LDS girlfriend decided that if they were to get married they needed to have a common faith.  They had both been raised LDS.  And they somehow agreed that having religion in a family was important.  But neither had accepted any LDS beliefs.  So, they went church hopping and decided to figure out how members of various faiths tested whether they were the right one.  They asked at each church. And they got some answers (which I've never asked about).  But they realized that none of it worked.  They just didn't buy the logic that any of the Churches used.  None of them had evidence that was all that convincing.  None of them even seemed to follow the Bible that they claimed to cherish.
    Mind you these are not my thoughts.  This was how he described it as he lived through it.
    Eventually, they decided, "What about our parents' church?"  Yes, they had long ago believed that it was not their church anymore.  It was just their parents' church.  They were already well versed in LDS scriptures and had read the Book of Mormon, giving it a fair shot.  But they just didn't believe it.  So, now was the time that they'd pray about it.  They met at a park and decided that they would both go to opposite ends of the park to make sure they would not influence each other in this decision.
    They both felt a strong witness and began to return to each other at the middle of the park.  By the time they met in the middle (literally) they both knew they knew and that the other one knew as well.  They went home to tell their families that they had a mighty change of heart and knew it was all true.
    ***********************************
    The other son had always gone along with things and even bore his testimony.  But it didn't seem that he actually wanted to change himself for the Lord's sake.  I have no idea if he ever had a testimony.  But he said he did at times.
    Eventually, he lost his faith.  None of us really knew why since he wasn't one to share much.  But when he fell, he fell hard.  None of us knows exactly what happened or why.  But my guess is that there were several trials that his family went through over the course of several years.  And it was just too much for both the husband and wife.
    They are so negative that if they even hear a very generic quote (not at all LDS specific) from a General Authority, they immediately get belligerent.
    As long as we don't talk religion (AT ALL) they're perfectly pleasant.
    ******************************
    Just as Lehi had Laman and Lemuel, there are plenty of parents who did everything right, but they still lost some of their children.

    He was not sent to the Gentiles, but to the House of Israel.  How often did He even interact with them?  Very infrequently.  His primary mission (in His preaching) was not to preach to or condemn or convert any Gentiles.  His primary mission was to bring the House of Israel into the new dispensation.
    Did he ever offend Gentiles?  I don't know.  If I searched, I'm sure I could find something.  But if His only reason to condemn or offend (if you can call it that) was when he was specifically preaching about obedience to the Law of Moses and how it was a preparatory law for the New Covenant.  He condemned Jews for not realizing what the true meaning of the Law was.
    Gentiles wouldn't even understand what He was saying.  He wasn't talking with them.

    There are over 40 stars of different types on the temple.  But they are grouped in ways to indicate that the groups mean something different.
    One of the Center Towers (I believe it is the front one) has four stars on the three visible sides of the tower.  These twelve stars "crown" the taller tower with 12 stars.

    I got like 4 pounds of election guide paperwork from the state of California just for the primaries.  A 70 page manual for every resident in the household (13). Even though 6 of the children live out of state.
    Ain’t nobody gonna read that garbage.  I wasn’t even offered a digital version.
    And last time I went over some of the paperwork (like 5 years ago) I couldn’t understand the material.  I asked my wife to help and her English degree and J.D. didn’t help either.
    I suspect that Gavin Newsom and Nancy Pelosi own paper mills and a print shop.
    Oh, the elections will happen.  Too much money on the line for the advertising, infrastructure, etc.

    @mikbone,
    Curious...  What are you paying on property tax?
    I'm paying between 0.6% to 1% of my home value for the annual property tax.  And we just passed a law that will make it a bit lower. We have no income tax in Texas.

    If the United States is willing to get involved in the Middle East because of our interest in petroleum, I think we should do some "nation building" in India to free up their untapped dairy resources.

    It's a bit long, so I'll just point out one symbol he pointed out from both the Nauvoo Temple and the SLC Temple.
    We know there are stars, moons, and suns on the temples. But the order is messed up from the Telestial, Terrestrial, Celestial sequence.   Stars are on top Suns are in the middle Moons are at the bottom He points out that this incongruity can be clarified by looking at the following verse:
    He points out that the woman was a symbol for the Church.  Thus the temple (also a symbol of the Kingdom of God on Earth) is wrapped (clothed) with the sun in the middle, with stars near the top (crown) and the moon near the bottom (under her feet).
    Very interesting.
