  1. Yes! Quite correct. Sorry for my poor choice of wording. eta: I'd meant they were doing multiple baptisms (for the remission of sins) and then stopped that practice.
  2. There was (apparently) a time in the LDS Church that this was true as well. I spent some time in the Church Institute library in Laramie, re-investigating the Church and looking for some answers to a couple of questions that I had. I also attended the talks given in the chapel, as well as a class or two. It was my custom to sit in the empty chapel prior to the talks, praying. One day, I prayed my heart out (praying to find someone that could help me find answers) shortly before the Stake President came to give his talk. During his talk, he paused in mid-sentence and completely changed the topic to touch upon the subject I had been praying about. Well, you can imagine how anxious I was to speak to him afterwards! In speaking with him, he gave an example of how it was that some things were not recorded in Church history -- the example was the cessation of being baptized for remission of sins. The only place it is recorded, according to what he told me (as best as I can remember) is that his grandfather had recorded his thoughts on the matter in his journal -- his grandfather being the Church secretary or something at the time this occurred. Of course this presupposes that the Stake President had his facts straight, and that I am recalling the incident correctly. It was a pretty momentus day, in many ways, so I do believe that my recall is good (but I do have trouble with my memory).
  3. It's a small world. The father of my childhood best friend took part in the cleanup of Nagasaki (he was a teenager at the time). He'd gone to visit his grandfather and couldn't return home (to California) because of the war.
  4. My husband's grandfather was part of the cavalry chasing Poncho Villa; his future father in-law was one of Poncho Villa's men. Not sure why that amuses me so much, but it does.
  5. Thanks! Looks like their forum pretty much died after some technical difficulties, but their site seems to have a wealth of information.
  6. I must say that our food storage has certainly come in handy! I'm really glad to have the Church dehydrated veggies; the potatoes make a fabulous topping for Cottage Pie, and it's my favorite lockdown dinner so far. Haven't broken into the wheat berries yet, although I could easily grind them into flour if I wanted to. This is the first time I've been able to say that to anyone and have them understand, lol
  7. Yeah, that sounds pretty typical. The second most hated group, besides Christians, is white heterosexual males.
  8. Lol! Oh, I see what you mean. Thanks!
  9. Thank you all. I suppose it is long-term isolation that is driving my desire to connect with people. I've been out of the house twice since early February, the last time was March 8th. The year before that, I'd been out of the house maybe a dozen times (strangely I'd been considering that a wildly successful year until just now). The progress I was making has been put on hold recently and there is nothing I can do about it until this virus thing is resolved (due to risk factors for both myself and husband). Frankly I'm currently feeling a bit desperate. Leaving that forum is not a simple solution (for me) without having some other source of social contact. Anyway, I'll check out the Homesteading Today forum, thanks! Maybe even consider joining Facebook to have access to groups there. *That forum does have the ability to 'ignore' people and threads, which I've done with abandon
  10. Oh! It isn't the difference of opinion that is the issue (for me), it is the intolerance for a different opinion. The social activists I've encountered are intolerant towards anyone with an opinion differing from their own, especially Christians. I've not seen that sort of behavior here.
  11. Disclaimer: I am an ex-convert. I used to post here a long time ago, but cannot recall my old username. I am looking for advice: I've been a member of a crafting forum for some time. Last year they came out with a statement equating support of the current administration as "support for open white supremacy." You're not allowed to say anything positive about the current administration, or else be subject to censorship or being banned. This is all clothed in the guise of "inclusiveness" and an intolerance of "hate groups" but they fervently engage in the very thing that they say they are against (I'm not interested in detailing out what they are doing; it's too distressing/disturbing to me). Initially I found it worthwhile to observe and learn. It is possible to participate in groups that restrict themselves to 'safe' topics, but the most vibrant group (and most interesting) is also the hangout for many of the social activists. I'd like to find an active forum where I can socialize without being subjected to bigotry and hatred. So far I've had no luck, possibly due to the popularity of Facebook groups (I do not use Facebook or Instagram). 1. Do you know of a forum or Discord channel that includes active discussion on topics such as food storage, gardening, cooking, and/or general homemaking? If so, I would be most grateful if you could point me in their direction. 2. I find it difficult to articulate how threatened I feel by the subversive nature of Social Justice Warriors or far left activities. The deceit and trickery - not to mention the hostility and open talk of violence, as well as the head spinning nature of their projections - is all deeply disturbing to me. What would you say to your sister, wife or mother if she came to you for counsel about this?
  12. Hi prisonchaplain, We've spoken before but I cannot recall my old username. You once referred me to Peter. I get where you're coming from, but dislike the use of the casinos as an example. Went through all of the trouble of creating a new account before noticing that you did point out the state has no jurisdiction over the casinos. Figured I might as well post anyway. 😊 I am especially dismayed by the folks that were socially isolating inside of their cars at a drive-in service. There was no legitimate reason for them to be targeted. And, yes, our family will remember too. We used to vote for the person we thought best suited for the job, regardless of party. What a painful lesson to learn.
